Loads of coupons! Wop your (coupon) wad on the counter!
I decided i needed more coupons. So i made alts, and got coupons, and gave them to my main account.
And in this post i explain how, using Indie Gala and Sandboxie, you too can swim in coupons, or have a counter-wop-ready wad of them. Coal, too, which you can craft into even more coupons!
Disclaimer: Do this at your own risk, information for informational purposes only.
STEP ONE: Getting sandboxie up and running, and running a second instance of steam:
Close steam before this, better safe than sorry.
1: Download Sand Boxie from www.sandboxie.com and install it on the drive steam is installed.
2: Open Sandboxie, click Sandbox->Create New Sandbox (Name it SteamAlt or something)
3: Copy your entire Steam directory (minus the SteamApps directory), and place it in a new folder called "steamalt" at the same level as the steam folder.
4: Sandbox->SteamAlt->Sandbox Settings:
- Restrictions->Drop Rights->UNtick 'Drop rights from Administrators and Power Users groups'
- Resource Access->File Access->Direct Access:
-> Add Program (Steam.exe)
-> Add directory for Steam.exe, pointing to your copy of the Steam directory (SteamAlt - NOT STEAM)
This is the "Add" button below "Add Program" in the sandboxie window. What this will do is not make another copy into a sandbox of this. It will run it directly from the folder you created above.
5: Sandbox->SteamAlt->Run Sandboxed->Run Windows Explorer (you can do this from the task bar bottom right)
6: In Sandboxed explorer, navigate to copied Steam directory and run Steam.exe (you can also create a shortcut to this specific version of steam and name it whatever on your desktop)
END OF STEP 1

STEP 2: Alts and activations oh my
Now you have a steam instance running in a sandbox. Open your normal steam, the normal way, and log in with your normal account.
1 - Via your sandboxed steam, which i'll call steamalt, create a new account. Use a guerrillamail account to make this faster.
2 - Go to the indiegala website and buy a bundle with paypal, using your normal e-mail or an alternate if you want more than 5 codes.
3 - Activate one of those codes on your alt, don't install the game.
4 - Go to the steamalt store page, check your alt inventory, etc until you have two things on it.
5 - Add your alt to your main's friends.
6 - Trade your alt's gatherings to your main.
7 - (optional) Log out of the alt, make a new alt, repeat steps 3-6.
Congratulations, you cheated the system and you're now on the road to becoming a coal and coupon millionaire.
Notes:
Only gifts that are purchased on trusted accounts can be traded immediately; otherwise there is a 30-day cool down before the gift can be traded. Any account that has made any valid purchase from the Steam Store more than 30 days ago is considered trusted. This is to ensure that all games traded are valuable, and help prevent fraudulent purchases for the purpose of trades.
So, expect waiting to a month trade games if you get one from an alt. Coupons and coal can be traded inmediately, though.
People have suggested other methods of getting codes to activate accounts:
-Humble Indie Bundle. These guys already got a statement out and you can't get steam codes for less than one dollar.
-Little Big Bunch Bundle. This never worked for me.
-Dark Messiah MP Codes. Never understood how to use proxies.
FAQ / FUS:
This is atrocious! You should be stoned to death with virtual coal!
Yeah, i know. Look if you entered a thread about gift farming how do you expect me to have any morale?
I'm worried steam will break forever if i do this.
The instructions work. If you break something, it's your fault and you can't blame me.
What about free game based achievements?
You can copy the game data from the original steamapps folder to the SteamAlt's Steamapps folder and do the achievements with alts.
Can i get banned/VAC'd/mean looks for this?
Probably. Do all this at your own risk.
Can i use this setup for a promotion similar to this one?
Pretty sure people did this during the summer sale or something like that, so yeah.
Can i use sandboxie and the alts for a TF2 item farm?
Yes, of course. You'll have to get premium TF2 for each, but you can create more sandboxes and run as many instances of sandboxed textmode TF2 as your memory and other resources allows you to.
PM me if you have any questions.
Saw Harry Enfield, instantly assumed OP was right with no hesitation.
Thanks!
I've done something similar for the trading part using Virtual Box.
I've a question sir..
Will i get problems if i use others account but i don't use your way? For example, use other accounts with Humble Bundle and use it.
I have over 20 accounts now.
hueuhhaeu
I'm not desperate...but still nice.
what does "poor" mean?

"Can I get banned/VAC'd etc"
"Probably"
Oh, the comforting thoughts.
Well, I guess all those alt can get banned, unless Valve tracks the shit outta your IP and fuck your main account, but I doubt it, since I'm seeing people with 40 coals or more and I don't think they are willing to spend money on coal or have such a good friends.
BUT, I'm gonna try it, since it's a guy on SPUF trading games for coal :P

I have no idea on valve's stance about alt accounts.

I swear to tell the truth, and only the truth.
It's more likely they'll outright ban you than VAC you, though.
Am I the only one reading the EULA for each sale?
Gee, calm down lads.
What's the difference??
Jail time.
What's the difference??
Ban - No more gaming from that account ever
VAC - No more multiplayer source gaming from that account ever

Seemingly they will actually cancel the Epic Holiday giveaway if God decides to sabotage the event.
And I didn't find any statement saying alt accounts on the same IP were bannable.
As long as you're a costumer you're eligible to do whatever you want.

Then how comes COD is VAC bannable? That's not a source game.

Because Call of Duty: MW2 is supported by VAC?

I'm being serious. I meant like the Source engine, unless that's not what you meant?

I meant that it takes a tiny bit of logic to figure out that maybe i was wrong, since you know other games besides the source ones are affected by VAC bans. I didn't know that, thank you for the information.
On another unrelated note:
(d) Entries generated by script, macro or other automated means will be void.
You guys should probably not use SAM.

Still, could mean anything. You never know.
Still, could mean anything. You never know.
The truth is I have a feeling the supported games that aren't Source related, nor GoldSrc related are games that have the need to protect themselves on the PC platform, so the publisher/developer either contacts Valve to set up VAC support for their games to protect against the hordes of mass cheaters out in the world. Clearly, if you check the whole list of supported games it's either games with CO-OP modes or are genuinely First-person shooters.
The effectiveness of VAC may be questionable, but it's a solid solution to the old support from PunkBuster. (Since all the older versions of Call of Duty like Modern Warfare used this solution)
The chances for Valve getting paid by the developers/publishers to uphold this support is not knowledgeable, but certainly I have a feel that they have a small sum generated from this (either paid a large sum from the start or subscription based)
And I didn't find any statement saying alt accounts on the same IP were bannable.
"False or deceptive entries or acts will render the entrant ineligible."
This may apply.
This may apply.
Well, the whole EULA is basically targeted for the "Epic Holiday Raffle" in the end.
Basically, I would've been surprised anyone would want to spare entries into it at all.
The chances are so astronomically small that the risk is worth taking, seriously.
But, I wouldn't fear either way chances are Valve wouldn't go through millions of accounts, even if you have 300 accounts registered on the same IP address.
Also, you would take in consideration that these persons actually have "static" IPs too.
Wonderful way to get banned.

Poor lads, they never knew what hit them. *sobs uncontrollably*
Better not void me for having my brother and friends log into their steam while at my house :<
