Alright guys,
I think it's time for a "how to hide a small base from griefers" thread. Has anybody else felt that horrible surge of anger when they log onto their favorite PvP server only to find that their chests are empty and their base is full of flaming netherrack?! It SUCKS. Just hiding stuff underground used to be my method, but then I found out how amazing the x-ray feature of Zombe's mod is. Lately, I've been hiding small bases underneath oceans, as it seems like bodies of water screw up x-ray vision.
Anyways, I've had enough of being destroyed by griefers. Anybody have any good methods for hiding a base/chest in a PvP server?
You can't hide. Just build your base very very very far away.
Well, as far as I know water doesn't do anything to X-Ray hacks. I had my base under the ocean with no entrance. You had to dig a specific dirt block inside the 12 blocks deep ocean which would make you fall into a 1x1 shaft leading down to my base. It was around 1500 blocks away from the spawnpoint and some hackers still managed to find it.
You just can't hide from them once they're nearby. Unless your house is a full block of smooth stone, they're going to find it. Any air-spaces or chests and you're gone. That's pretty much it.
Make your base out of Silverfish blocks.
1. only go to whitelist servers (profans server is excellent, although i have not played it in a while)
2. if you are playing on like 2b2t then build underground. very far underground. and far away from spawn. i remember FP had an underground city like 10-15k blocks away from spawn i think.
and thats pretty much it.
Surrounding your base in lava can help. Depending on the way someone's Xray client/config works, they may not be able to see through lava.
Everything that people tell you to do that hides your base is probably a lie. All good griefers have an x-ray, nothing protects you from it. The only thing you can do is move as far away as possible, 15-20k is generally a safe area.
any griefers on the server i play on are usually banned quickly they dont really bother me either im too far away to annoy
This is why I stopped playing online. What's the point if they're just going to X-ray?
When you play with your friends, you never have to worry about this.
Well, maybe a good hiding place for your diamonds so they stop "borrowing" them.
I got annoyed with griefers all the time, I just set up my own private server and let my friends join. That way I know I can trust them and if not I just ban them.

I had a base in 2b2t.net about40K out and I don't believe anyone's ever griefed it. Hell, I've had a shitty time just trying to get back there myself when that reset happened.

Yeah, I don't care if people "grief" (as in loot, plunder, pillage, etc.), but if I can't even set traps that work worth a damn because they can see right through any means of disguising them it takes the fun out of playing on such servers.
make your base entrance underwater
I remember reading about using a formula to calculate coordinates that are completely inside chunks, to avoid people spotting your stuff in a chunk error - though it will do nothing to stop xrayers.
If you're clever you can fabricate a griefed house, or find an existing one, and add some sort of secret passageway /passageways to your actual house.
Join whitelisted servers, I suggest Profan's server, you don't really get griefers on there and you sort of forced to go out and explore to build your own house anyway, so it all works out for the best.

Actually, I kind of like this idea. I think I might combine this idea with just building 3 or 4,000 blocks away from spawn.
Do X-ray cheats work in the End or the Nether? I'm guessing they do.
Cover your chests in iron ore a bit away from your base. They'll never find it.

Why iron ore?

X-ray cheats can even work in the Aether. Basically, a x-ray cheat takes a texture pack, and makes you be-able to see threw blocks and etc. Virtually any item or block- anything with a texture, can easily be made and used for/in a 'x-ray' cheat.

Try getting some coal ore.

It has nothing to do with texture packs. It just takes the block itself and turns it transparent.

We found an old mobtrap on 2b2t.net, about 10k out from spawn. Took us about 4 hours to have it fully operational again, and it still looked griefed from the outside. About 1 hour after it was functional, dickhead popbob came, xraying/speedhacking/rangehacking and basically blew it to smithereens. Using a old griefed building does not help when someone has xray.
If you want some kind of base, then don't play on a server with griefers. Isn't that the simplest solution?
There are enough ways for server admins to stop griefers if they want to, so just go to a decent server if you want to have your own stuff left alone.
MC is such an easily griefable game, that if you go to an open server you shouldn't expect anything to remain ungriefed, however hard you try to hide it.
I've never heard of a thief, plunderer, or pirate referred to as a "griefer". It sounds fucking RETARDED, and even Google Chrome hasn't heard of it, as it's underlined in red.

Said town got buttdestroyed one day after I arrived.

It's pretty common "internet slang", if you can call it that.

Doesn't sound retarded at all, their only objective in life is to cause grief to other users and server admins / owners, therefore, being called griefers is the correct word for such a person.
Just because Chrome doesn't know a word doesn't mean that word doesn't exist. For example, every program I know doesn't recognise my last name as a correct word like 'Smith', that doesn't mean my last name doesn't exist, it's just not in the Oxford Standard English Dictionary. Like last names, internet slang will never make it into the dictionary.
Make an underground base at bedrock level and use hidden chests in the bedrock.
There isn't a way to avoid xrayers because if you are ever within 8 chunks of them you WILL get found and destroyed.
