So I'm trying to make a game with the setting of that of cyber-like world (as if in Tron, Megaman EXE, ect).
Originally I just wanted to make a nice scenery for people to relax and chill in a cyber world.
I had some other ideas too, but that's for another time.
But I wanted to hear you guys opinion. What would you guys wanted to do in a cyber-world?
Are you talking about some scenic cyber world in a role-play perspective of a character? Or like a cyber city simulator.
I think the core thing to achieve is what normal human everyday hum-drum life would be like to build a solid foundation for the spectacular. This is why fantasy universes like LOTR, ME etc work, because the basics, lore, and history set the stage and stories inevitably and naturally flow from a strong foundation.
cyber whores with big, big dicks
Cramped streets, they had to build up-wards to house the population, real poverty and wealth diversity. Warring factions that inevitably end up being large corporations because government became unstable/untrustworthy/infallible when the inevitable equality paradigm set in, people expected CEO's to act less like government.
I could do this for hours but a solid back-story/altenative history or lore would spawn these ideas.
I was thinking of a scenic cyberworld, where the character interacts with their own computer element. For example, going into real folders inside the hard disk, seeing various files as structures in the 3d world.
And other player can visit our computer's environment in online mode.
And accessing the files through the 3D world, so they can play movies, viewing pictures, ect.
But i cant help but think that i'm missing on some other interesting ideas, so gimme some
So you want ideas guys, there are plenty here.
Maybe create a varying degree and variety of personalities for certain file-types, and their associated programs. SO one computer has many images, and their heirachy could depend on certain properties (filesize, resolution) but has no leader like Photoshop, and only has a gang leader like MSPaint. This could apply to music and video files.
their personalities could use their properties also. So images don't like audio for their explicit differences (visual vs audio) then videos are all like 'Hey look at us we are a combination' or maybe they are just dicks about it. Source files could be either slaves to the .EXEs or maybe the elusiv creators behind it all, or a masquerade to the real computer programmers who are speculated upon, but only ever seen through webcams, and heard through audio recordings.
If i could give one advice, cut down your scope with at least 50%. I have piles of unfinished stuff because i couldn't find the time or resources to finish them.
I really wanted to avoid the prospect of killing enemies and such.
What would be fun to do with friends other thank killing enemies?
What can a player build/collect/amass/work on in a cyber world?
Something like a goal, I dunno
Ok I think I get you, and this is why I was proposing you flesh out, or at least tell us the initial idea so we can help more. But you want an exploration game taking place in a landscape dictated by the players computer?
You could begin by creating a height map decided by distribution of folders, so more folders within folders could result in higher mountains/deeper caves. One objective could be finding the source files to re-build the programs which could be anything. It's really hard to come up with ideas when you don't have even an idea of what you want, which is half the reason Siduron thinks you should set a scope limitation so you have a leg to stand on.
If you make a seamless transition between a file and a 3D visual representation... you have a whole program right there. If it is one way (file to 3D) then it could be a game of exploration. People would make certain files just to see what they look like in game.
Maybe you could add some sort of file creation in game. Even a simple text editor. Then you could make objects from strings. That would allow some sort of coop building system with other players. Navigation through the world could be a simple radial tree with "root" at the center and teleports for shortcuts and some sort of airport for going over the internet to someone else's world.
The greatest potential I see is exploration of procedural worlds based on real files or player input. Fantastic idea!!
give me a dazzling neon cyberpunk open world GTA type game and me luv u long time

That is A+. This is why I have always wanted to learn programming but I have no will power. If only I could get a job as an ideas guy :v:
I like the sound of this. Make it happen.

How about a sport in a cyber-world?
Like Disc-throwing "deathmatch" in Tron or lightcycles in....Tron....
Hell this could turn up nice. A tron styled game where you can actually visualize data travelling through the computer. Maybe some sort of multiplayer, where internet connections can be seen, and you can see the data on other's people computer processed as buildings.
Now this is a long shot, but it would be great if i know how to make the program detect viruses/worms. Then I could make the program delete the infected files. Friends could go virus-hunting together in a real PC.

...I'm going to suggest that you don't use live, malicious viruses as a game element. If I'm trying to clean my machine of Ramnit, I don't want to have to bring a friend over so we can beat level 6. But, simulating malware behaviour would be a great mechanic.
According to your opinion, what should represents the files/folders/hard drive? Should the folders be like tall building depending on their sizes? Or should the folders be represented by doors, teleporting the player to a space inside it? Or should the folders be some kind of stairs taking the player to deeper levels, while the files be scattered around the level to be interacted with?
World representation should be very important, because it would affect how much objects would be there in the screen at a time. It would be great if a world concept can be CPU-efficient and beautiful at the same time

Depends, each level can be different. You should probably have a limit to levels. Perhaps the top folder can be a whole city, the next down will be districts, down from that can be blocks, then houses, then rooms, drawers in furniture? There is a lot of flexibility with how you can handle it but there are three main paths that you can take imo.
1. Make a limit to levels and make each level different.
2. Have no limit to levels and have each level similar.
In the second way, you can handle the hierarchy with streets or something. Definitely take some time and sketch out some ideas. You will want to find something that intuitive to navigate but isn't too situation specific.
Another idea is to keep folders a level up from buildings so that buildings are made from groups of files of the same type. Like, word docs will together make a library, shortcuts would make a train station, excel sheets would make an office (each cell can be a cubical and separate sheets are the levels :P), and so on.
