• Steam Machines are the future of gaming

People are starting to become sick of Sony,MS and Nintendo and will seek alternatives. Then we have the Steam Machines which will be made by Valve and several other manufacturers, It will take awhile but I think Valve will eventually dominate the gaming industry with people realizing the variety and customizing they have with PC Gaming and I truly believe that Steam Machines and Custom PCs will be the primary gaming platform for developers by the time the PS4s and Xbox Ones lifespan ends.
Yay opinions It's rather presumptuous to say any one technology is "the future of gaming". Gaming, as an industry, has a rich and diverse future in a number of different areas. VR, steam machines, indie games, these are all areas of rapid growth and innovation at the present time, but are certainly not the only places that video games have a foothold. I suspect the playership of the Call of Duty franchise alone will keep traditional consoles alive for a number of years yet, as the most hardcore fans and the naive casual gamers continue purchasing the platforms without considering the options. And perhaps the "traditional" consoles will change, evolving into something distinct from what they are and what they have been - these companies have invested a lot of money into their R&D for these, and I don't think they're going to just let them die.

A steam machine is just a pc in a small form factor.
Steam machines won't take off like consoles because they are still PCs. Console gamers usually choose consoles because the controllers are more simple and the UI is easy to navigate, the games rarely crash and you can basically pop in the disc and play. PCs have a bit of fiddling which most people find off-putting, so they get a console.
