Space Engine is a free, built-from-scratch procedurally generated simulation of the universe maintained by one astronomer and physicist in his free time. It covers the Virgo Supercluster (the one we reside in,) and contains innumerable galaxies, with each star, planet, moon, and onward procedurally generated to a high standard of detail. Version 1.05 was recently rolled out, which introduced oceanic worlds comprised entirely of liquid water alongside many bugfixes and miscellaneous improvements. The nature of the program may seem to discount it from being a game, but the procedural generation it employs creates a host of rare solar arrangements. Seeking these out constitutes a sort of gameplay. If I didn't have such a shit GFX card I'd insta DL it.
Oh, another update? Awesome!
There's a thread already somewhere though
Oh, another update? Awesome!
Yeah came out in november
Yeah, there's no way that's going to run on my PC.
Can't wait until 1.06 comes out.
Yeah, there's no way that's going to run on my PC.
It's way more lenient on low-end systems than you would think
Is this that previously unreleased program I saw a long time ago where you are able to create entire massive planets and explore the terrain in vehicles and such? And also be able to explore space I think.
We already had a thread for this... [editline]11th January 2012[/editline] You should put a download link in the OP, or at least a link to the website http://en.spaceengine.org/
What manner of hell-spawn have I created?
There's already one
Maybe it shouldn't be wedged between two of the giant pictures.
I must be retarded, I can't find 1.05
There is no 1.05, the most recent version is .95.
This thing is gorgeous. Time to lose hours of my life to it.
i like to pretend im carl sagan whenever i use this
What manner of hell-spawn have I created?
The weirdest thing was it took me several tries to get this, if I rotated in the wrong manner it would suddenly teleport me several thousand quadrillions of Gigaparsecs away. We just need to find a planet spinning really fast so it's flat, and maneuver a ship into orbit around it in just the right way. Feasible FTL!
Can someone upload just the .rar file? The torrent they give you takes far to long.
I know what I'm doing for the rest of my life.
There is no 1.05, the most recent version is .95.
Mm. Thread confused me.
Holy shit, this is amazing. I remember in some games, they say 'if you see an X, you can go there', but this brings a whole new meaning to that! I really can't get over the idea that every single dot is a place that you can go to in this, it's honestly incredible.
How hard is this on your computer?
How hard is this on your computer?
Lower settings and adjust the config file and any PC can run it. No matter what settings you use I have yet to see this game look anywhere near ugly.
Holy shit, I flew to some distant cloud of starts on autopilot. Looked back to where I was, and I swear to God I had some sort of rush at the fucking distance. This game is so awesome, it transcends my damn mind.
I think I will listen to this while using this program:
where's this 1.05 version, I can only see 0.95?
