Dark Storm is being developed on the Unreal 3 Engine (thanks, UDK!) by a team of over 20 programmers, modelers, and artists. Inspired by creations like Call of Duty, Crysis, and Bioshock, Dark Storm hopes to deliver a unique, enthralling first person story campaign to its audience, with a multiplayer component that will be added after initial development is completed.
Features:
Original, immersive story
Tactical aim-sight system
Unique heads-up display
And the game can be played in 3rd and first person.
A quick objective question: What sets your game apart from other games?
At it's Core it's a game telling a story with engaging gameplay. it would be set apart from other indie titles for it features and graphics, and animation quality.
I assume this is a shooter, but HOW exactly is it engaging? Why should we help test your game?
Why should I play your shooter before I play any AAA shooter? What makes the story better? And DON'T give me a cop out like, "Our story is written by a dedicated writing team, and is better than other indie games." Because that's bullshit, give actual evidence to why your story is better, give us some writing, a video, whatever.
May be relevant, it's on their IndieDB page:

Too all those who keep asking for more info, click on the links provided on the first post and 3rd post Done. .. and look at the game, and for the question "why should we playtest your game?" Let's take a look at bf4 mp beta shall we?, hmm what duh flip happened between the mp beta and final product? we don't want a buggy game i mean there will always be bugs but we don't want a lunch game to have the same result as of Bf4. I am not comparing this game to that game i am making a point. (Don't Release something broken) and what makes it different, is upto you we add all these features to the game some are better than others, then you have some people, who say otherwise look at the games page and judge it your self if it interest you then get involved, if it doesn't then move on.

That's not how it works in this subforum. You have to provide as much information upfront as possible in the first post (especially for a new or unknown game) or people are gonna be reluctant and/or skeptical.

A.K.A. put some fucking effort in the OP.
Signed up and was promptly denied, oh well.

We're asking these questions for your sake. You have to try to get people to play the game, rather than just saying yo wanna test x game?
The question isn't why we should play test a game, it's why we should test your game.
From looking at your videos and stuff right now all I am seeing is fancy concept art, models and animations. The only gameplay I have seen so far is very generic and on top of that looks like it would feel pretty clunky as if you are playing some korean fps. Sorry to sound mean but I feel I need to be honest. You have what looks like a professional game being made from first glance but when you see actual gameplay it doesn't seem like anything special. I am not seeing any functionality yet that is really new and innovative.
I may not be that great at it but I have been doing 3D art for 5 years and when trying to make games I feel I have made the mistakes you guys have of concentrating more on making your game look fancy than functional from the start. I hope I am wrong and have missed some footage of the gameplay that shows how it sets itself apart from other fps games and wish you luck with development. Making an fps that is unique and stands out today is hard as there are so many of them.
Why is your game fun? Why do we give a shit? Why shouldn't I leave this thread for the third or fourth time and continue not to even look into your stuff yet?
You need to hook us, and you're doing a pretty awful fucking job. Why is this game different than any generic shooter out there? Can we take advantage of the environment? Is there dynamic destruction? Are there bullet physics? WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT THE GAME? Fill out the OP with some info and people are going to be a lot more interested
The game seems really normal. Tactical aim system and switching between 3rd and 1st person would probably be ultra hype if it was a game developed 12 years ago, but those things aren't exactly something that can set your game apart from the rest these days.
Think outside the box and take a few risks. If you're setting up the whole game's foundation on something that's simple as aiming down the sight and cool enemies that have one weak point on it's body shoot it a lot, than it's going to fall.
If you're going to use these things as a bulleted feature in your game, think of something really weird and awesome that works for your ideal game and how you want it to be played. Something like switch to 1st person for FPS, and 3rd person for DMC style hack & slash. That's actually a really generic idea, but I'm just spit balling here.
Also the concept art on your developer blog showcasing your heroine having an existential crisis in the middle of a firefight is not tooooooooooooo appealing. :v:
I should probably mention that the art does seem interesting, but I have no idea what the gameplay is like.
Take this all as constructive criticism and work on the gameplay. Make a short trailer with the game's features and try to use that to draw people in.

The task of getting people interested in the game is on YOUR shoulders, not your potential userbase.
and what makes it different, is upto you
No it isn't. You're the developer, not me. Again, it's YOUR job to convince US that your game is worth our time. You need to be able to tell people what makes your GAME better than others. Not why your beta testing methods are more thorough, or why your story is better-written, or why your concept art is special.
If you tell me nothing about the game, then ask me to take the time to sign up for the beta, download it, install it, and playtest it for several hours, I'm just going to click the back button and play one of hundreds of other games that I already know to be good.

You don't really know how the whole "marketing" thing works do you?
If you want people to buy your game or be interested enough to playtest it, the point is you have to SELL it. You have to get people interested in it, people don't develop interest in things they don't know shit about, let alone playtest it.

He's a dev, not part of the marketing department.
Just check the game out guys and stop being so bitchy.

So if he's not going to tell us anything in this thread and basically going to act like a spambot then what makes this thread any different than some guy saying "Check out my website for my game" (AKA advertising)? Because that's what he's doing
He's a dev, not part of the marketing department.

That's no excuse for bad marketing. The project looks like it has potential, but good marketing is half the battle.
And the trend of looks before gameplay continues...
We're here to play a game, not look atpretty[SUP] half-assed [/SUP](albeit) moving pictures.
ps:
Massive hairdo that covers half of the protagonist's vision? Highly impractical in any combat situation. [SUB]...Out goes the realism.[/SUB]
At it's Core it's a game telling a story with engaging gameplay. it would be set apart from other indie titles for it features and graphics, and animation quality.
you are really good at sounding exactly like the marketing department of the average triple a game
At it's Core it's a game telling a story with engaging gameplay. it would be set apart from other indie titles for it features and graphics, and animation quality.
If you are going to claim your game is set apart by its graphics and animation quality you have to have an art style that is truly new and innovative and to be honest your looks like a very generic futuristic kind of game that has modern style weapons (making them look kind of out of place).
Your animation quality for the player looks very stiff and well... animation rather than fluid so I would not yet call it a strong point for your game more of a hindrance or down side.
New features appear to be lacking if not non existent everything I have seen in game at this point has been done before and far more better many times.
When it comes to your story I don't know much about it so this could be your redeeming factor here.
You guys are indie developers, yet it sounds like you're making the next triple A budget game. Branch out. You guys have the freedom. You don't have some big publisher breathing down your neck deciding stuff for you.
For example:
http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1378802 is another indie game thread you'd probably see on facepunch every now and than, and it's so far has had a positive reaction despite not having ADS or something super flashy. It quite literally is the Worms ninja rope, made into a game.
The point of the play test is to get overall feedback but, we want real criticism, so far we have clunkyness and over it looks like it have a lot to offer but it's half assed, and yes i am a dev im just a 3d modeller, i can't do much gameplay wise but the point of this was to get feedback and send it too the lead game designer, he thinks it looks good but it really needs improvement i want this game to get where it needs tobe with all that it's offering. So please carry on shit talking, this game needs more work to get where it needs to be, that's why it's a wip. Everyone on the team in still learning the engine, it's not in a great state atm but we really just want the features tested. (And this "Spambot" Has Feelings too you know) <-.-, anyways this was the right choice of a site to get feedback from, just point out things that you dislike and would like to see worked on, that they can't see. For me i like the level design and most of the features and the texture work but the "gameplay" needs massive improvement, even for an indie game it's really weird how they move, shot and just feels really stiff but i want more too tell him other then the obvious..
Thanks for being cool and not overreacting.
I'll give it a shot later when I'm not doing homework and probs give an honest opinion.
