Age of Mythology is a kickin' rad game, released in late 2002. For those that are familiar with the "Age of" series, should know that this is an RTS game just by the title. Most of the features in AoM are quite similar to AoE, in the sense of gathering resources(food, wood, gold) and building an army. The multiplayer for this game is surprisingly active for its age, and I highly suggest trying it, but I'll get to that later. Here's a few screenshots of gameplay to give you a taste of how it looks/plays. The Basics For those wondering how to play, once you start the game, there are several helpful tutorial levels that guide you through the basics of playing. If you're too lazy to boot that up, I'll provide a short summary- The main resources in the game are Food, Wood, Gold, and Favor. Food can be gained by hunting animals, harvesting berry bushes, fishing, or farming. Gold can be gained through mining, or caravans built via the market building. Wood can be gained only by chopping trees, which makes it the only resource in the game that can potentially be extinguished. Favor is gained differently by every civilization, The Greeks assign villagers to pray at a temple for Favor, the Egyptians erect monuments which slowly generate favor, the Norse gain favor through battle, and the Atlanteans (Titans Expansion) gain favor from town centers. The ultimate goal of the game is to eliminate the enemy by constructing an army using these resources, but there are several gametypes to explore. The Ages in this game(similar to AoE) go from Archaic(Starting Age)-Classical-Heroic-Mythic-Titan(With the expansion, durr) The Civilizations There are four civilizations: The Greeks, The Egyptians,The Norse, and The Atlanteans . Each civilization specializes in some way, and stands out from the others. The Greeks The Greeks begin the game with three villagers, and a katascopos (scout). Their units are costlier than other civilizations, but are stronger. Each major god has its own special unit, only available once reaching the Mythic Age. The major gods also favor one type of unit each, making them the most user friendly. The Egyptians The Egyptians begin the game with two laborers(Egyptian villagers), a pharaoh, and a priest. The pharaoh has the ability to empower a building, increasing it's production rate and improving the efficiency of units from it. Ra(major god) allows priests to empower as well, but not with the same power as the pharaoh. Egyptian houses, armories, and markets are all free, but have a much slower build time. Rather than using wood for most buildings, the Egyptians require gold, and rarely use wood for anything other than certain units, and upgrades. New players may find this quite difficult to adapt to if they've played other civilizations before this. The Norse The Norse begin the game with three gatherers(Norse villagers), an ox cart, and an ulfsark. Unlike the Greek and Egyptians, the Norse gather their resources by delivering them to a portable cart, allowing for easy movement of resource gatherers. Also, gatherers cannot build ANYTHING aside from farms, infantry such as the ulfsark do all the building. The Norse are known to be harder to play then the other civilizations due to the slew of differences in gameplay to those used to other civilizations. The Atlanteans The Atlanteans begin the game with a citizen(guess what they are), and three oracles that spawn in slow succession (they take about 10-12 seconds to have all of them out). Citizens have the ability to not require a drop-off site for their resources, and simply automatically transfer whatever they gather into your resources. Though citizens are VERY expensive and slow to make compared to the other villagers, but are stronger. Every single human unit can be turned into heros, even citizens. Multiplayer The vast majority of multiplayer is taken up by the many scenarios created by other users thanks to the oh so lovable Editor feature. There are many popular scenarios that are played much more often, and spawned many, many different versions, remakes, and updates. Don't worry though, if you're itching to play a plain old game of AoM, you can do that too, even face the AI online with friends. Aside from the playing, there are several chatrooms, and a friends/pest system. [del]If you want to play online, you'll need to make an ESO account, but it's very VERY easy.[/del] UPDATE: New CD keys can NOT access ESO on Age of Mythology, I'm not sure how long ago this started but the only way to play online with AoM without an older CD key is to use Gameranger I HIGHLY suggest making an account on Gameranger if you haven't already as this will be the main way you'll be playing AoM online. You'll also need to find the cracked .exe (you'll need to have the game first- the cracked .exe is NOT THE GAME) for whatever version of the game you're using in order to play online with most people (as they have the cracked version.) note you do NOT need this .exe if you know the person you're playing with doesn't use it either, otherwise you're required to run the exact same version of the game in order to use Gameranger properly. A few quick examples of popular scenarios are- Mutation Four players are required for this type of game. You begin with a plain old soldier, and a healing unit (Setna, priest, pharaoh etc.). For every set amount of kills a player scores, his main unit will change and become more powerful, the enemy being laid across a linear map. Some Mutation variants contain bonuses in the form of buildings to destroy for a reward. These games can take up to an hour or more, depending on how many players survive. Mythodea/Castle Blood Mythodea can be played with either 2, 4, or in some rare cases, 6 players. Every player has an old man or flag bearer on the outskirts of the map, all on a plateau with random units around them. Players move their old man/ flag bearer to a unit to begin spawning them in their base. Each player has a wonder, if destroyed, will cause them to lose. By racking up kills, players can advance to a different, further plateau and select more powerful units. In most Mythodeas, there is a center point which can be controlled for a bonus to their team or to themselves. Castle blood only differs in that you control a set number of military buildings, and train units from them to destroy the enemy's military buildings. Personally, I play this game all the time, even when I'm not confined to my shit computer as I am now. If you really enjoy this game, I can show you the ropes, I'm almost always available. My ESO account is Trexmaster, so for those who already play the game can add me. I'm also somewhat experienced in triggering maps, so if anyone feels up to it, we can make a nice little facepunch map of sorts. If you're looking for even more information on this game, check out the wiki page.
awesome game when it was out [editline]31st January 2011[/editline] atlanteans? is that from an expansion!??!
Bad Reading was such a good rating... But yes, there is an expansion, the Titans Expansion. It add the Atlanteans, and several other things, including an auto-queue, new upgrades, and the titan unit.
Yes,they were. Also I love this game so much.
Oh wow, never knew they were made by the same company that made AoE (not sure which AoE). I have to try this out.
If anyone's interested, I'm up for playing a few games against some AI with facepunchers. Also, I'll start making a list of people who play the game, just provide your ESO username.
PROSTEGMA VULOME BANG MJELVESH SCHKEEPAN AoM is great.

Quick poll, : For Canadian Bears that shoot lasers and monkeys. [img]http://static.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img]: For flying hippos shooting...hearts.
Can't, school calls.
In that case I'll continue waiting. So, anyone else have a disc readily available? I'm quite content with just a 2v2 against some AI.

I loved playing this game back in the day, still even have my disk from the first game.
I loved the Titans expansion. Having a Titan bear down on your enemy was great.
I hate how Ensemble got put out of business by making a shitty game like halo wars.
This was my first m rated game. Have so many good memories
Oh, and don't forget the awesome cinematic intro:
I liked AoM more than Warcraft 3.
