• Legacy - My games pre-alpha demo and greenlight

Hey fellow facepunchers, I've spent the past seven months working hard on this and finally it's public demo is ready (hopefully followed by some sort of funding). It's essentially going to be a open world RPG drawing inspiration from Zelda, Mount and Blade, Dark Souls, and lore from Dungeons and Dragons, and Lord of the Rings. Anyway, I've recently put up the pre-alpha demo on IndieDB, it's just a vertical slice of what a dungeon will be like, I hope you guys enjoy! :) Link to the download link on indieDB: http://www.indiedb.com/games/legacy/news/legacy-the-demo-has-arrived-come-get-some And our steam greenlight : http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=291549572 Here is the fifth developer diary, some rather substantial changes to combat! Definitely feel like it has potential. I can appreciate what you're trying to do, and really do look forward to what you will do with it moving forward. Did you do it all on your own??

Did you do it all on your own??
Essentially at the start of 2014 there was nothing but I decided it was time to follow my dreams, quit my job and started working on this game full time. I had an old game design document and I was working with a programmer, long story short he would disappear for weeks at a time and after a failed kickstarter I ended up having to do everything myself anyway. Programming, art, animations, level design.. you get the idea, haha. Then about a month and a half ago another programmer applied to work on it, very experienced, masters in CS and all, so I had been working with him. The problem is, I'm working at this basically 60+ hours per week unpaid for 7 months now (if that doesn't change soon it's looking pretty grim for the game) and he only has about 2 days a week to work on it, which is why we need funding, so we can both be paid full time and afford to hire another programmer for the procedural system (since I want it done right). A couple weeks ago before we were supposed to release the demo he began experienced severe neck pains and then had to go on a trip, so I was left hanging with just a FSM for the enemy AI, and basically no combat (since I reworked it from 4 attack directions to 360 degrees), taught myself C# and got to work haha. So long story short, I apologize for any bugs, it is a pre-alpha demo and is my first crack at seriously programming in years, if we can get funding it will play much better and I will be able to focus on the art and design again. Thanks for appreciating what I'm trying to do haha.
Would you be looking for an animator?
Would you be looking for an animator?
Honestly I'd love to expand the team and pass some of my responsibilities off but funding is #1 priority at the moment, hopefully this demo will attract the attention we need to get some sort of investor interested as since neither of us are American all major crowd funding is off limits :(
I'm going into my 3rd year of college for 3D Animation and Game Design in September. If you're still interested once you manage to get funding and can expand your team, let me know. I'd love to help out on a DnD-style game. The demo vid you posted looks very promising.

So far this seems pretty solid, but I've got a few critiques: 1.) Pushing blocks around isn't fluid enough. They snag on the floor/walls of the floor indentions they slide through. 2.) The camera movement is pretty loose. I mean, I like being more in-control with my camera. The way it keeps moving after I stop moving my mouse is what bugs me slightly. 3.) The moving platforms have issues. They're too jerky, so every corner, the character moves, possibly off of the platform. But apart from that, this looks great so far. I really enjoyed it.

(Including the rather clunky combat) 2) I agree, I will be reduced the smoothing substantially in future builds, this will also be very necessary for ranged weapons and aiming spells. And I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
Alright so I've been reworking combat a fair bit, been getting awesome feedback since the demo and greenlight have gone up, I've changed the video in the OP to show the changes to combat. Tell me what you guys think :) . I'll also be uploading the updated version of the demo sometime tomorrow for you guys to test out for yourselves.
