Greetings, Hydral. I will be your computer for this "grand strategy campaign with turn-based tactical combat." I think that's code for "we're going to die." Our solar system is vast and complicated, and I sense you are a little dimwitted -- so I tell you what, let's start with the simple stuff. Like escaping with this flagship you just hijacked from a bunch of angry robots. That seems important. Please excuse my impertinence, but I believe you are the last of a murdered race, yes? My records note you Hydrals were the dictators of the solar system, so basically you had it coming. And by "it," I mean the moon that smacked into your homeworld. Hmm. So people really aren't going to like you until they get to know you. Well, only you can use the scattered remnants of advanced Hydral technology, so that's something. Look, I'm not going to tell you what to do. My understanding is that you're trying to form the solar system's first-and-last unified federation, and that's noble enough. But right now nobody wants that except you, and you've got 8 very diverse, very angry races to either unify or exterminate. So... good luck with that. I'll help how I can.
The Last Federation is a game where you play as a Space Hydra in a stolen spaceship. Your ultimate goal is uniting the Solar System in a single, united Federation of alien races. Of course how you accomplish this is up to you - you can favor a single race in particular and lead them to total conquest of the solar system, you can unite the downtrodden races against their aggressors or you can manipulate racial politics behind the scenes and try to get everyone to stop killing each other long enough to band under a common cause. You win the game when every world in the system is a part of the Federation. Gameplay is divided between the Strategic map which has a record of all worlds, the aliens inhabiting them, planetary resources and statistics, the tech trees of every race (including your own) and their particular political nuances. You earn credit (the political currency) and influence (their opinion of you) by performing various races - assisting the Utopian Society of Robots to terraform their shithole lava planet into something more suitable will earn you favor, but so will sabotaging their space stations and stealing their technology for the Space Boars lurking on the other side of the system. The campaign starts with all but one race having yet to have discovered space-faring technology. You can propagate this technology, doing so will encourage the race that receives it and seriously antagonize every race that has already made it to the stars, however any races that makes it to space earlier gets a huge advantage in the current political minefield that is TLF's campaign. The battle map sees you piloting your customizeable ship (you can change your special ability, weapon and power loadouts as necessary) to fight big bullet-hell style battles. Issuing movement and firing orders every turn, you have to continuously switch your weapon type to perform optimal damage against your targets - your kinetic minigun is effective at blowing enemy fighters up but won't do much against that Pirate Base that you're careening towards. The campaign randomly assigns races to different types of worlds, and with no set story each and every game plays itself out differently. Forging a Federation is guaranteed to earn you enemies you might not otherwise have had, and the tutorial hints that several anti-federation movements and empires can arise in direct reaction to your actions in the game. Of course failing that you can just switch to observation mode and watch all those aliens blow each other into space dust.
Turn-based tactical combat, with up to 5 factions competing at once. Extremely deep simulation of an entire solar system and its billions of inhabitants. Even just watching everything unfold in Observer mode is entertaining, as nations rise and fall. New-player-friendly ramp-up of complexity as you play, which you can disable if you're already a veteran. Eight races each have very distinct personalities and attributes. Each one even has its own completely unique political system. Difficulty levels split between the grand strategy and turn-based combat portions of the game, both ranging from quite casual to incredibly hardcore. Save and reload your game with ease any time, or tough it out in ironman mode. Composer Pablo Vega's best soundtrack to date, featuring 54 minutes of music and the vocal finale "Lay Down Your Arms."
[t]http://pixelperfectgaming.com/wp-content/gallery/the_last_federation_steam_screenshots/the_last_federation_steam_screenshot_01.jpg[/t] [t]http://d-pad.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/CaptureOrbitalScienceLab.jpg[/t] [t]http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/10/103881/2619721-the+last+federation+2.jpg[/t] [t]http://pixelperfectgaming.com/wp-content/gallery/the_last_federation_steam_screenshots/the_last_federation_steam_screenshot_010.jpg[/t]
Website Steam GOG
I played this game, but it really wasn't for me. A bit disappointed, since I loved AI Wars. It just seems to finicky and repetitive, but maybe I just haven't given it enough of a chance. It feels too much of a chore to play, but I'm hoping I'll play it again sometime soon. Awesome devs anyways, not upset that I purchased and it wasn't really my type of game.

Like, most of them are either a hit or a miss for anyone who tries them. Some might really enjoy them, others might not like them at all since most of their games seem to aim for a ridiculously specific audience due to the gameplay ideas. If you guys like this game, I really suggest you to check out their other games, especially AI war.
Has anyone that does have the game up with a good way of earning credits yet? I'm trying to invite some more races into the Federation but I seriously lack the credits to get it done. Also be wary of getting friendly with the Boar dudes, they have incredibly limited diplomatic options and I've yet to find a way to invite them to the Federation.
