So, earlier today I realized how annoying Steam's Link Filter actually is (for me at least).
I mean, sure, I can install some browser plugin to 'bypass' Steam's landing page, but I still have to wait for like 5 seconds for Steam to perform it's own checks.
That's why I decided to make a tool to completely disable link filtering, and make Steam work in the way it used to.
So here it is folks!
This little tool will patch Steam (in-memory) in order to disable the link filter (this also means that you have to run it every time you run Steam).
It's pretty easy to use. Simply launch it, read through the disclaimer, and let it patch Steam.
It shouldn't take more than 10 seconds.
This should be completely safe (banning-wise), however until someone from Valve can confirm it, use at your own risk.
Full source code is included for the curious folk (or if you don't trust binary releases)!
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Here's the reddit link for those who are into that kind of stuff.
Thanks for this, I was just telling someone how annoying it was.
Did You try it while running VAC game? Something that patches memory may not be good for VAC.

Games don't share memory with steam.
good idea but memory patching sounds lame man :/
I just use a js extension in opera

Using a JS extension sounds lame, everybody can do JS nowdays.
thanks alot
I'd just prefer if steam had better filters.
Have popular sites like puush, facepunch, etc not requiring the filter warning.
I would download this, but I get 30+ phisher adds daily, thanks to steam removing the limit of how many friend invites accounts can send out at once. Tho most phishers don't use clickable links anymore to bypass the filter ,some still do and the risk of clicking one and not having the filter is a scary thought.
Thanks for doing this tho, hopefully steam makes better filters.

How about just allowing me to pick my own non-filtered sites? Or alternatively, just filtering the ones that look like a variation of steamcommunity?

Allowing users to whitelist sites would probably be the best idea.
I could implement something like that, but I'd rather not, since it would probably mean injecting external code, and since sometimes VAC has the tendency to scan the Steam process for external calls, I don't think it would be completely safe (unless I'm mistaken, and someone can confirm).

VAC only runs in games I thought? VAC can't ban your Steam account...

"Browser plugins are lame. Real men inject strange code written by a complete stranger into a closed program that your password goes through!"

VAC does only run in games, however I did observe an instance of it 'scanning' the Steam process a while back.
Not sure exactly what scans it performs, and whether it still actually does that (my observation could've also been wrong).

No code is injected, and the application is open source.
If you don't trust pre-packaged binaries you can go through the source, build it, and run it yourself.
My steam for some reason constantly switches languages...
