A while ago, I played a lot of minecraft on Profan's Humble Abode. After the death of that server, I haven't been able to get back into minecraft. I tried herocraft, among others, and found that the sheer amount of mods was a bit intimidating, and got in the way of the friendly, imaginative nature of the game that I loved so much. After almost 3 years of nothing, I'm trying to create something I've been looking for in a server for a while. An almost vanilla server, with just enough modification to give a decent factions system, leveling system, and economy. I'm going to try to keep this fairly simple, here's some basic information about the server. I felt that Profan's could get a little boring without any risk of PVP or conflict, but I loved the things that were built there while other, heavily PVP oriented servers encouraged chaos and ugly, "safe" buildings. I'm trying to go for the best of both worlds with this. A simple call back to older minecraft servers, with just enough extra to add a spin on vanilla gameplay. I would really like to encourage factions of friends to get online and play - if you've got a group of friends and have either played on Profan's with me in the past [I]or[/I] have 2 years on the forums and over 2,000 posts, shoot me a PM and I can transfer you some starting cash. As much as I'd like to join it sends me to a horrible void where I await my time out.
Give it a few seconds. Not seeing any issues in console, but we do have a few plugins, sometimes it wigs out for a moment before placing you at spawn.
Yeah just getting time outs, it loads the spawn but it doesn't actually allow me to do anything. I'll try joining tomorrow at a better time.
Sounds good. This issue is odd, it's been affecting only a few people, so it's been really difficult to trouble shoot. Oh god a simple factions server. Thank you so much, they're really hard to find these days. I noticed you mentioned trying to stop people from building ugly, safe houses. Do you have an obsidian destruction mod in place to accomplish this?

If someone really, really wants to build their ugly ass house they can, but there's no point with LWC iron doors (in faction territory) and disabled ender pearls. Using an obsidian destruction mod would feel kind of artificial. I'm gonna get off for the night, if any of you have trouble spawning, wait a solid 30 seconds before disconnecting. The server has in the past had issues where it gets player data wrong. I've got no idea what is causing it, I [i]think[/i] I've fixed it just now, but I'm not sure. You'll have to forgive me, the Minecraft mod scene is a lot different from anything I've ever managed before.
few bits of advice 1. try and put in a rule against floating bases because they're dumb 2. try and put in a rule against and a way of preventing combatlogging 3. if you're gonna give the player items to spawn, include some meat in that because later finding food mobs around spawn will be a pain in the ass [editline]26th December 2014[/editline] oh and also i see you have nocheat installed and a big rule against hackers, but please please please don't be tempted to install one of those anti-xray mods like ore obfuscator or whatever it's called. I'm noticing some bad block lag as is and installing something like that would basically cripple the server. [editline]26th December 2014[/editline] so to make a faction you need 1000 'marks'. The only way to get marks is to get marks is to sell stuff at spawn. The only things you can sell are gold blocks and emerald. You get 25 marks per gold [b]block[/b]. to make a faction you need 40 gold blocks. That's pretty stupid.
I recently rescaled the economy, a faction should be 100 marks. If it's not, I'll change it. Also, thanks for the advice. I'll see about adding an anti combat logging plugin. [editline]damnit[/editline] Fixed an issue with spawn items.
thats still four gold blocks which is quite a bit for any starting faction but if you've increased ores I suppose thats not too bad. [editline]26th December 2014[/editline] besides all the comments I made tho, seems like a decent server. I'll be sticking around.
Uh, hey, I am [i]extremely[/i] new to this whole FP scene but I know the server through the community that funds it. I'm not going to say much because I'd probably do harm considering I have a very peculiar way with words, but I find the server very fun. I honestly don't normally like MC all that much but the economy oriented goals really interested me. I am Evil_Clown712 IG and the founder of the faction Rothschild, if you have any questions (and I'm on the server, of course) just send me a whisper in-game (local chat is enabled, don't know if he mentioned that in OP) with /tell <name> <message> (took me like 3 days to figure that out). I'm also employing people for various stuff, including help with buildings (I'm horrible at building good looking structures) so if you want to make a quick buck IG just send me a /tell.
For whatever reason, some people seem to get out of sync with the server or something like that, and they get hit with nocheat flags (which I'm assuming to be false positives). If this happens to you, try placing a block/opening a chest, and wait. When it registers, try it a few more times to make sure you're not lagging, then rejoin. This problem only seems to affect a few people, and I'm having a tough time finding out if it's a client side or server side thing.
Be sure to put in the rules against flooding bases with water - otherwise there is no way to break into them. Otherwise - good luck. Factions servers are are a bitch to host, specially' when you get that ONE group of players. Just watch for those people who like to "toe the line" on the rules.
Looks pretty sweet, might hop on at some point.
Thanks for all the feedback so far. I'm going to get off for a while, I've nearly got one of the first subways finished. I'll probably be ready to start trading items in bulk tomorrow. I've got large quantities of stone and food, so if you've been doing nothing but mining and have some money (or straight gold), I'm up to trade.

Is there any way to teleport to spawn? It says I don't have permissions for some reason. Also that cost for creating a faction is awful, I got several stacks of iron and about 20 diamonds before I could find half the gold I needed to sell, and lost it all because I didn't want to leave anything in an unprotected chest, and died in a cave. It'd save everybody a lot of trouble if you either let us sell other stuff or seriously brought down that limit.
There is no way to teleport to spawn, just run over and if you don't want to run so far then make your base a bit closer or travel through the nether.

When players can teleport, it kills the need for any subways/roads. There is no teleportation, and I have no plans of adding any. As for the gold/emerald, those are the only permanent shops to avoid giving other items a set value (we want other players to do that). I do put up shops for my faction from time to time, however. I'll buy all that iron off of you for 20 marks a stack, I need it for about 3,000 rails. I'll be around later today. The price to build a faction (then buy chunks, then maintain them) is purposefully a lot to try to keep every single person from starting a faction. It becomes feasible when you have 3 or more friends. I know Rothschild is looking for people, if you want someone to pay you for work while you get on your feet. Is there any way you can remove the need to have 5 members before your faction can claim land?

There's not [I]that[/I] many players on concurrently. I don't see what's wrong with having a small faction of only one or two people. Forcing everybody who's not on at peak hours to not participate in factions at all doesn't fit a new server like this. These rules fit a server of like 40-50 regulars, not a server with like 7 people on concurrently at any time.

What's a common Y level iron veins spawn at? edit: Add 8 gold ore to the list of ore's I've had to pass up thus far.

I literally passed through 20+ diamonds and gold before finding any iron.

I dunno how you can work round that one, but it is an issue.

Money is given value primarily by factions needing it to pay taxes. Right now there are few factions and most people are just getting settled. To try to help this, I've finally set up some chest shops for things my faction needs/sells. I'm buying iron (in blocks or unsmelted ore for slightly less), redstone, coal blocks, and sugar cane. I've almost got the first rail system set up to the Wehrmacht fortress, at which point more trade will become easier. As for iron, ask around the Atlanteans or Rothschild. There is a method to finding iron, once you know it, you can reliably get chests of the stuff. [b]Some updates to the server:[/b] - Decreased faction land requirement to 3 players - Decreased cost of land (now 10 marks per chunk, 5 marks weekly to maintain) [editline]bbbb[/editline] Additionally, I need a lot of raw materials. Sand, Nether materials, snow, etc, all for a future project. If any of you want to start a faction with a sort of business contract with me, pm me and we can work out a deal for funding.
one downside to having factions be difficult to make is that you cant protect your stuff, no point in building a base until you can claim land, and we just got raided wanting every faction to have a big base but not wanting 100s of factions is impossible
