With Half Life 2's 10 year anniversary approaching us in less than a month (November 16th); I thought we could discuss what we hope will be included in Source 2 whenever Valve decides to release it. I wonder if Valve will show something then?
For Source 2, I hope there will be a dynamic or realistic weather system. I feel like it is rather difficult to create wet surfaces in Source currently; because the results are usually somewhat poor and difficult to achieve.
A finished hammer 2 or at least something to use the current one with other than Dota 2.

Either I refuse to change, or Hammer 2's UI really is shit. I just can't stand it
I kinda hope that that keep it as pure C++, that's on of the things I like about Source
Also, make it cost-competitive to Unity
A new culling system, because fuck visleafs already.

Oh wait, the engine, not the game.
But yeah, that'd be great too.
I remember the mindblowing face animation in Source Engine when I first saw it. So I'm expecting something like this in Source 2.

I can't imagine how creepy characters' faces will get once the animation advances. Maybe Source 2 will include advanced aging technology and allow us to finally see all the wrinkles in Kleiner's face :v:
The ability to draw lines of which npcs will follow, and certain placements to point to an npc to take cover. As well as editing npc behavior through the gui, instead of scripts. and perhaps support of GTA3 sized maps.

Hammer 2's default gui did get on my nerves, but it's super easy to customize; and I REALLY fell in love with how Source 2 works.
What mine looks like:

I want a Hammer that has the UI the same as it's been for years, but functions better in every way.
Less talking and more action would be nice. And anything that has to do with dynamic water would be very cool too.

You're selling yourself a bit short if you're restricting yourself to GTA 3 size

So you're basically saying you would like "dumber" AI than the outdated node system Source already has?
A majority of NPC behavior is already editable in Hammer's GUI. In addition, there are several types of AI nodes and commands in Hammer that can do almost exactly what you are asking.
A release date.
Euphoria style physics.
A better lighting system, and faster compiling of maps

games released
so far there's only portal2, dear esther and stanley parable
Might sound needy but i agree with most people, i want to hear an interesting game release. Maybe a new innovative IP like portal was (original). Even if not i would love Left 4 Dead 3 or an overhaul to existing games like TF2/Dota.

?
Portal 2, Dear Esther, and the Stanley Parable are all on Source.
The only thing so far on Source 2 is DOTA 2 alpha workshop tools.
Vorbis/Opus support
Vorbis/Opus support
And FLAC/VP9
To those concerned about size, the map editor in Dota 2 has shown it is theoretically bigger than, say, the UK, if you read some stuff in the mapping section.

those games are basically source 1.5
i think we dont really have a standard externally (outside of the tools) what defines source 2 to be source 2, but i think if we have 64-bit support, we can call it that
Paris atleast when that guy imported a model of it.

No more vertex errors

Those wont happen nearly as often if lightmaps are given the boot.
[sp]They also wont happen in source if you dont downscale your lightmaps to 1 for every single shadow[/sp]
Engine-level implementations of Replays and Filmmaker so modders and developers can take advantage of them without horrid extra work.
