Back in 1988, Interplay Productions released Wasteland, a Post Apocalyptic Top Down Turn Based RPG, set in the Arizona deserts following a group of US Military Engineers as they found the horrors of a new world after a Nuclear Holocaust. It was critically acclaimed for being filled with an amazing world along with great combat and good graphics (For the time that was). In fact, it was so good that it was basically the basis for nearly every Post Apocalyptic RPG to come after it. Interplay's 1997 Fallout was originally meant to be a sequel to Wasteland, but due to loosing the rights to the Wasteland title, they were forced to recreate the world.
Recently in 2012, Brian Fargo, ex-CEO of Interplay, now CEO of InXile Entertainment, came forward and started a Kickstarter for a true sequel, raising nearly 3 million dollars in just a week for a new game. Despite this, Brian put even more of his own money into the development of the game, totaling to 6 million dollars. The development team included industry veterans such as Chris Avellone, Mark Morgan, Mike Stackpole, and Jason Anderson.
Now, about a month ago Wasteland 2 was released. It features Isometric Turn Based combat in the vain of X-com: Enemy Unknown, with some really amazing characters, quests, and locations. It's a real CRPG as well, being sometimes incredibly hard, and filled with exploration if you wish to do so. It has some awesome easter eggs as well, referencing 80s and 90s pop culture (Can you find them all?). Don't forget about the humor as well, it's probably some of the best from recent games.
For about half the game you spend your time in the Arizona wastes, having to deal with the consequences of your actions and the Desert Rangers before you. An example of this is a choice of whether to save two towns, one named Highpool, a town built on top of a reservoir of water, responsible for giving water to the wastes, and Ag Center, a town of farmers and scientists trying to develop and grow more resistant plants to help feed the future of the Wastes. If you choose one over the other, there are some very grave consequence that you can feel in the game such as areas having droughts and other areas being infected by mutant plants. Another example of this is the fact that if you do save Highpool, you will find the town quite hostile to you because years before Rangers shot a boy and his dog after they began attacking them, and in fact there will be evidence around the place of this such as ballads and poetry written about the boy and his dog, and the gun of the Red Ryder, a vigilante who went after the rangers because of the rangers killing them.
The other half you spend in California, specifically the area of Los Angeles, battling the main enemies of the game, a group of Cyborgs dedicated to ridding the rest of the world of those who don't follow their god, and specifically target the Rangers as being a threat to their religion. This area is a little bit more buggy, after all, this was the half that wasn't open to the Early Access Beta on Steam, so they couldn't as easily iron out the bugs. Personally I have not been in this half yet, and have no idea what to expect, mainly because I started the game recently and became so enthused with the game after finding all these cool references in the Rail Nomads Camp that I just had to post this thread. Some things I have seen that are cool are reference to people like Total Biscuit, with a man in a top hat who like biscuits that you find in a random encounter.
Some other things I've found (Probably some spoilers in here so look away if you want to find these out for yourself): The Provost, a mysterious man you find the Rail Nomads Camp that follows you round and speaks Latin; Multiple references to different backers and people within the Wasteland 2 forums; Toasters you can find throughout the wasteland that if you use a special skill you can get some interesting items from; Goats that have a number of different screams such as the Goat screams from Youtube, or even the Wilhelm scream; and finally in true CRPG fashion a Davy Crockett Nuke inside the Ranger Citadel that if you activate actually ends the game, something a bit unexpected when you sit down for a while.
Now for some concept and character art.

As you can tell, I absolutely love this game and recommend this game to anyone who even remotely like Fallout or any other Post Apocalyptic game. It's probably one the the best games in recent years is currently one the number 1 of my top ten list. It's just filled with so much character that I want to go and pick through all the little details of the areas, find everything there is to find, and blow up everything there is to blow up.
I'll probably expand on this thread later but right now if you don't have it go buy it and if you have it discuss below.
There's already a thread at http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1169979
