The Russians and their unknown motivation for playing on the English-only
39 replies, posted
How come the Russians that can't speak English, play on the English-only servers? EU-west is pretty much filled with Russians only.
I've never got an answer from one of them, when i ask them "why they are there and not on their own servers".
The answer is usually "hahaha, fuk mother u" or "cyka".
I'm starting to believe that Russians are born with a new instinct and that is to troll the game world.
So can anyone help me understand here.
They obviously don't like people that speak English and they usually believe that you're an American if you speak English and
then they go, "fuck America", "we win over u" and yet they insist on playing on English-only servers.
I can't be the only one who wonders...
They hate Russians as much as we do and want to play with other people.
The fact that i meet russians on the australia server rarely really shows how theyre willing to brave >350 ping just to not play with other russians.
Probably because RU servers might be full of kids and other russians want to play with EU or any other players that don't speak russian to isolate themselves or something.

This I've noticed but seriously, even though that might be true. The majority of them are so fucking horrendous to play with that i have a hard time imagining that there are Russians that are even more worse than the ones that i usually meet. They have shitty mic's and scream in the mic, saying "report" as soon as anyone dies and swears in bad English and flame like there was no tomorrow.
I would be lying if i said that all Russians that I've met have been like this but it feels like 92% have been like this.
Yeah I don't think its because they don't want to play with other Russians beucase 90% of the Russians on the european servers are terrible scumbags.
Being an asshole is Russian culture, apologizing is seen as weak in eastern europe.
Europe has Russians, North America has Brazilians, Australia has Filipinos while Japan and Korea have this weird mutual hatred. It's like that for all online games
It sounds racist as hell but people should seriously just stick to their own areas when it comes to online games.
I don't get it either. I was on 5 ping once.
9/10 people in my game were russian. Like seriously? I was the only West european on that game with ENGLISH selected.. I really do not get them

Well, seeing as being Russian alone is not a race, it's not racist..? :v:

But I agree.. Rarely you get Russians who out-perform everyone.

Why is this getting dumbs, it's true
I once played with a an intelligent Russian and I asked him, 'What's a rusky like you doing in the American servers?' And he aptly said, 'The Russains servers are generally not very skilled or serious about the game.' Now I can't confirm if this is true or not, having not playing on those servers, but if that's true then that's an understandable reason.
However, I dislike it as much as the next chap when I'm playing on a US server and I get a bunch of abrasive foreigners.

Hmm yes, western europe, that region of the world that only speaks English. Yup. No other languages there at all.
Pro tip: there are no english-only servers, the language selection is a preference. Don't like it? Consider not calling out russians every time you see them, of course they're going to react with fucking hostility because they constantly get shit for being russian even if they haven't done a single thing yet. Play with a 5-stack of friends if you want to avoid ever seeing another terrifying foreigner.

Woah! Someone filled their cup of rage today. Yes, that's what i do i call out Russians by "pointing and laughing" at them and yes, they're "misunderstood and big victims" in the gaming communities. All Russians want is to be equal, or not... "They" disrespect everyone in games, but i guess you defend such people because you're one of those guys yourself? And don't mistake me for meaning literally every Russian but a majority of them simply fall into a stereotypical Russian trollflamer.
"Consider not calling out russians every time you see them." I love how you point that out like it was a fact. I'm not complaining without a reason, i don't call out the Russians when they behave politely.
Dota2 has turned into Cyka2 and you might like it but i don't.

More like they don't give a shit and check in every location possible.
If they could they'd find a way into Chinese servers just to get a little less queue time on their match.

Fucking this.
Although I was born and live in Estonia, I know only a bit of it, while Russian is my mother tongue. I also firmly believe that I am fluent in English, so I can talk to other people in English as well.
When I play on Russian server I just want to send a nuke to wherever these stupid fucks sit. I cannot really understand this stupid mentality of, to begin with, not being able to speak some BASIC ENGLISH TERMS for a fucking game you play, along with always being fucking retarded and not playing as a team. I try to take friends occasionally and play on Eu West, hinting them on what to say if such a need arises, but really, it's fucked up. It's even more fucked up that when you think you will team up with French, Germans, Spanish or Italians, you always get "ну ты и долбоеб" "рак ебаный" etc.
i don't have a problem with russians, i have a problem with russians who don't speak english and still play on eu west.
Region locking is really unfair for the good russian players. I think the only fair way to get rid of the problem is to make a report button for people who play on a different server and don't speak the main language. You got reported too much? Go play on your own server for a week or two.
You really can't avoid players like this and I doubt it will change. The only way to avoid this is just to stop giving a fuck and play how you like, well that works for me at least. Muting also helps.

This is where you're wrong
It's gotten so bad that I play on EU west servers now. Some of my friends call it creepy but when people are loading into the game, I quickly hit tab and take a look at everyone's steam profiles just so I can see if theres a SLIGHT possibility they might speak english and thus will be able to coordinate and talk...
But unless I'm playing with friends, I swear it's 6/10 or 8/10 not being able to speak any english. EU West servers are the best bet since English is widely spoken there and europeans are generally very nice. I mostly get Swedes and French.
Maybe valve could put in a language test before you select a region based on the most common language in the region.
This is where you're wrong
He's correct, the language option is a filter to try to match up teammates who can work together, if the game can't find 5 people of the same language, it will simply try to match up as many as it can, which is why people often experience only 2 languages being spoke on a team instead of 5.

All the language option is for is to help you find other people who chose that language. If a Russian chooses English as the language, they're just matched up with others who chose it. There's servers for specific regions, but not languages.
But the answer's already been given. Foreigners don't play on their own servers because:
- They have a far away friend who gets bad ping on theirs
- They don't want to put up with the attitudes of their own people
The explanation I came up with is that most people from different countries want to have a match as soon as possible, so they queue for every region there is regardless of the ping they are going to get or the language the average player there uses.
Once they get on a server, they start speaking in their own language, even if the others don't know that language themselves, for no apparent reason, which is rather unfortunate, given the nature of Dota 2 as a team game. The Russians are the most common example of this, but there are other plagues in the making too (a Spaniard an an Italian, once he/she knows there are people from their own country around, won't stop blabbing in his/her own language for the entire match. And they generally have an hard time figuring not the whole world knows Spanish or Italian).
In fact, every time I see a region lock debate regarding Dota 2 the majority of the people involved will say fuck to that just because they find unfair not being able to choose every server there is and get a match faster
How about a user end region lock, select whether or not you want to be matched with people outside of your region. Boom people who want shorter que times can get em, the people with any shred of sanity left can avoid the Cyka br puta blyat
I don´t think Valve will ever inforce region-locking of any kind on their products.

Indeed. They think it's far better to deploy punishment system in the hands of their gamers' community, which is known to be made of mature and fair individuals
Try playing csgo with russians. They are 100x worse then in dota2.
all they do is show eachother their knifes, run and gun, shout, swear, teamkill and call people who speak english "stupid yankees" etc. etc.
I went down 2 fucking ranks because of those asshats.

I rarely find russians in my team who are good/nice players etc. But when I have them in my team they are a blessing.
chill russians are the most based dudes in existence
shame I only ever encounter them once in a blue moon
I've had all sorts of people who not only spoke damn good English, but even carried the game all the way to the base.
Of course i've never met such people more than twice in the course of 2-3 years, but they exist.
They're just the unfortunate minority.
if you're five-man stacking, queue Russia for easiest games of your life
