That's right, Doom. Just what the fuck is Doom, you ask? Well, Doom is a series of first person shooters developed by id Software, which first debuted in 1993 with, you guessed it, Doom. When Doom was first released, it was a revolution in both graphics and gameplay. The game is credited for spawning the word 'deathmatch' and getting the idea of online multiplayer rolling. The game takes place in the future, in the facilities of the Union Aerospace Corporation. The UAC was experimenting with teleportation technology, and due to some stupidity, they opened a portal to Hell itself and shit went down.
Demons took over the entire base, and [URL="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hGaoyfbrsI"]all the workers were killed[/URL]...[sp]except you[/sp]
The game was a hit, and has been widely popular ever since. The classic Doom games had spawned three official sequels (Doom 2, Final Doom, Doom 64), and id Software released Doom 3 in 2004. A really shitty movie was made in 2005, and Doom 4 was announced in 2008. Very little is known about Doom 4 other than it will play more like the classic games, won't be as dark and will supposedly look three times better than Rage.

[B]Where can I get Doom?[/B]
You can buy it off steam, or download the shareware WAD file [URL="http://www.3ddownloads.com/showfile.php3?file_id=7486"]here[/URL] and a source port to run it...well, look at the picture above.
Welp, that's it for now. I'm going to add a source ports specifics section and an 'interesting stuff' section later.
Never could get the originals to work only played doom 3
Dem url tags. Otherwise a good OP.

Whoops, that's been fixed. FP's been giving me a lot of problems with URL tags lately, my apologies.
[QUOTE=Meatpuppet;33760315]Never could get the originals to work only played doom 3[/QUOTE]
I can help out with that, how were you trying to run them?
Use ZDoom/GZDoom or Skulltag, easiest to use source ports IMO.
Loved this game as a kid, got it when I was 5 or 6 or something. I remember asking my parents what a S.O.B. was after reading it in the manual.
Just started a play-through of doom 64 yesterday, never had a chance to finish it before. So far the levels are quite confusing, but I'm liking the horror atmosphere of it.
[h2]RIP AND TEAR[/h2]
There's a neat little source port that lets you natively run Doom 64 on your computer, called DOOM64Ex.

How aren't people aware of the two tabs when you're searching? The tab on the left is what gives you the best results.

I've been playing almost daily since I discovered Brutal Doom, modern shooters feel so slow paced now.
Also giving DTWiD a try and liking it so far.
What's the best HD texture pack for Doom 3?
Here is a cool little mod I use, i have no idea what the original source of it or name of it is. A member here posted it in the last thread I believe.
Adds a couple new weapons some new enemies, reloading for weapons (so make sure to bind that key) So its good for a new play though of any of the doom games.
[url]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23810060/Doom_.wad[/url]
It works in Doom 1, but recommend using it in the Doom games based on Doom 2. I also Recommend a zDoom based Source port for it.
I feel like posting some links and writing stuff
[b]Stuff:[/b]
Freedoom: a OpenSource version of Doom 2, doesn't use any art assets from the originals and I'm not sure if it works with Skulltag
[url]http://www.nongnu.org/freedoom/[/url]
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/uyZM6.png[/thumb]
GZDoom: aka GrafZahl Doom, a derivative of the standard ZDoom
[url]http://www.osnanet.de/c.oelckers/gzdoom/about.html[/url]
Skulltag: a multiplayer client for Doom, pretty zdoom-ish

[b]Mods:[/b]
[b]Singleplayer[/b] (couldn't come up with more :v:)
Real Guns Hardcore: A Modern Warfare 2 mod
[url]https://sites.google.com/site/realgunshardcore/[/url]
Speed of Doom: A mappack featuring 33 maps
[url]http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16040[/url]
[b]Multiplayer[/b]
All Out War 2: A remake, per se, of Command & Conquer Renegade's unique Multiplayer gamemode, tends to be rather unbalanced
Shotgun Frenzy: Sortof Killing Floor mixed with C&C, you have to defend power cores from waves of monsters while the commander builds buildings, researches upgrades and creates turrets to support the rest of the team
Zombie Horde: Typical zombie-mode with insta-infect and such.
Whodunit: It's what the title says, comparable to TTT and somewhat to The Ship and Bloody Good Time.

I like mods that add reloading because it makes the game slightly harder since you have to worry about running out of ammo in your current magazine, while in the original doom you can just keep firing.
So, anyone up to a game online?
And I remembered another good mod!
Typical defense fair
[url]http://stronghold.drdteam.org/[/url]
Not a big fan of Torm667 stuff. I'm up for some online play, though.
Well, Stronghold felt kinda like Crysis TBH, fancy as hell graphics but rather generic gameplay hidden behind.
I'm joining the Grandvoid AOW2 server, my name's "Commander Failure |>FP<|"
I gotta download everything again :suicide:
OP needs this
[img]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/ef/Rip_and_tear.png[/img]
i feel like someone makes a new doom thread every week
How about every year?
Doom 3 is pretty fun in co-op.
You should add the Zdoom Launcher to the OP: [url]http://zdoom.org/wiki/ZDL[/url]
You can't launch multiplayer through it, but it's great for managing multiple WADs for singleplayer.
