I can't wait to see this game in early access and how it will possibly motivate Rust, if it does.
I think competition is a good thing I hope both games do well and provide enjoyment for endless hours =D
How is this competition when Rust doesn't have dinosaurs but this game does?
Because it has many features exactly like rust. Procedural maps. Guns, base building. It looks a lot like Rust in that trailer.
If you didn't watch the video or read the list of features Ark has on its EA launch then I guess I will elaborate a bit.
Before I go into detail here is a short summary of how they are competition: Both are hardcore survival games where you build and kill to survive in a harsh procedural world where yo ustart with nothing.
Survival:
* Calories and water and temperature ( Ark and Rust use this system, but ARKs system looks more in depth such as all actions expend calories and water )
* You build shelter to survive, store goods and sleep. ( Both games use this system yes both have Player Sleepers and resource storage. )
* You start out with Nothing but can craft and learn from blueprints and Engrams ( Both games use this system, only rust uses permanent Blueprints only, where ARk uses temporary blueprints and Permanent Engrams )
* You forage and kill to survive, both players and the environment.
The World:
* ARK is not procedural but has different biomes such as desert, jungle, mountains swamps rivers , lakes and oceans. ( Both games have this but ARK has more features based on biomes such as animal types and items that can only be gotten in certain biomes, + oceans can be explored and you can make underwater vacuum sealed buildings )
There's alot more stuff but Ill leave it at this so people can check the game out for themselves on steam and stuff.
looks impressive, but also like it prioritizes team PVE gameplay. it's something i would play, since i do both, but i think a lot of PVP lovers would avoid it and play rust instead.
Both games feature killing dodo birds, only on Rust it still falls under PVP.
Looks good...but its not rust.
Well the game has a lot more than Rust. Few to mention: Weather system, mountable ground and air animals, tamable animals which defend the base / attack hostile enemies, agriculture, moving your resources to another server, more complicated health system, kidnapping other players with minimum ways to commit suicide, devs who seem to be serious about the fps count, and the list goes on and on.
I've read the Q&A and the devs look like that they aware of all Rust mechanics, and they've built upon them.
This makes it an interesting competitive title. Let's see how Rust will react. But seeing how Rust is evolving every week, I still have high hopes for Rust. Waiting to see horses being tamed & mounted soon!
The gaming community will have more options to chose from, which is good.
I think that I will play both Rust and Ark if the later proves to be a solid early access game.
Will play this too. I liked the tamable beasts. Do hope this comes to Rust in future, pretty sure it will. Mountable turrets etc would be pretty fun.
Chances of that looking better/having more stuff is because it may be developed for more time, or with more resources. Remember, experimental is little over 1 year old yet, while some like dayz has years of past before EA, and mods were built on the very same engine years ago.
There are an army of dino survivals, not all of them looks that nice, but they know the same, and they arre becoming the same lazy copy shit like zombie games...

-There will almost surely be weather system in rust.
-There will almost surely be mountable animals/vehicles. Horse is to be implemented soon.
-We have (a hulk) traps, and yourself to defend.
-There were, and surely are plans about that.
-Rust will have connectable servers to carry stuff between them.
-Rust developers care about FPS. You seen the sign early access?
As I told, it does not have more stuff, it just had more time/money to develop.

Please name one good one.

Its heavily pvp based infact they dont even have pve servers
Please name one good one.
Have I told there are good ones? Not really
Beasts of prey, the hunter primal
Ark is not released yet, how do you know its soo good?
The Stomping Land, anyone :D ? this looks good but we won't know for sure until it is released, remember how H1Z1 was supposed to put Rust to the ground ?

source? the video looked pretty humans vs dinos to me, and it's not released yet for experience based answers:)
This game looks like a lot of fun, Im gonna give it a try while tool cupboards are still the way they are in Rust. I also prefeer to hunt dinos than hunting barrels but idk if that is how you get bps in this game. Anyone knows about the bp system of this one?
They're going to update 3 times a week. That's pretty impressive.
It's definitely going to be amazing. I don't really get why they're going early access though - it sounds like the game is pretty much finished?

“Everything described on the full Features List is in the Early Access version right now -- not all 100% polished, but designed to be fun. Over the next year, the game will be rapidly iterated on with updates usually coming 3 times per week, almost always including new features, balance and polish improvements, and bug fixes. We are extremely fast at development, and will continue to push forward with maximum energy to make the game ever-greater on a daily basis. We live and breath game development, this is what we do.”

From the looks of it to me it does.
I actually had no idea about this game until this post.
Sorry gang...this game looks tight. And agreed...really? Early access with that amount of polish? They have to be close to a ::coughcough:: alpha
No matter what though. Rust is and will continue to be...Rust.
Although it seems to have some similar features it still is it's own animal, just as Rust is.
The game looks like a mix of Rust + Reign of kings but more polished.
My impression from the graphics, video and developers comments:
* They are much deep in the development then Rust at this moment. This is clear from all the dino models, the animations and general graphical quality. So i assume its a bigger team then Rust.
* It features all of the options that Rust has and is supposed to have. Rideables ( dino's = horse / vehicles ), air rideables ( dino's ).
* They even added some Reign of Kings goodies like "unconscious survivors" can be picked up and done nasty things with. But they go a step deeper by allowing also dead bodies to be used from both survivors and dino's. We all know how creative people can be with resources in a game, so its not hard to imagine the nasty things that will happen to bodies *lol*
* Farming seems to be also implemented. With a entire process. So far in Rust we might see water collection for the first time in Rust this week or the next. The first steps towards farming. But to be honest, i fear for both games there implementation. For now in Rust you need to build a freaking cube bunker to be "somewhat" secure when you log off. With more space needed for farming etc, i have the feeling the maps are going to get mighty small, very fast. And defending your farming resources currently how Rust works, is going to be hell ( unless your in a big group ). So its going to be interesting to see how both games solve this problem. But for now, with C4 / Rockets and the easy to gain them, its clear that Rust will and stay a raiders paradise. So the farming implementation is a big question mark in my book for Rust.
* Female models... it may sound strange but there is a lot of women playing ( more then you might think ) rust but they are forced to only use the male body type. Talking about body's, they also have different sized bodies allowing for more diversity.
* Creature taming ... technically its in rust if you use the Hunt RPG plugin/mod but its not a default rust feature. They also talk about feeding your animals to grow them stronger etc ... so there is a whole eco system idea from farming to consumption. So your not just forming for your selves but also for your animals ( what are your transport, and or weapons ).
* Smaller details like arrows sticking in bodies seem to be also there.
* Originally they planned only for PvP servers but because of community responds they added PvE servers to the list. If the ability is true that you can move resources between servers, this will be a big balancing issue ( remember Ultime Online Trammel ).
A lot of this is still open for debate as the game is not open yet but one can not help to feel that they are more along in the development then rust is at the moment. I feel for sure that i am going to buy into early access.
i will SURELY move into this game if it has no fps problems and wont start that shitty laggy rust for at least 3 months straight
i have core i7, 12 gb ram and nvidia gtx 560m 3 gb ram, i play gta 5 on almost all ultra and in rust i get only 30 fps (good or simple) and massive fps drops in fight? lol shame on u

early access isnt an excuse. i dont want to buy beast machine to run rust on fantastic or beautiful with no pfs problems. my gaming laptop is a very decend novadays
But does it have dicks?
Seriously though, this is the game I dreamed of when I was 11.
Game Optimization + Specs
It doesn't require a top-tier video card but it does require 4 GB system RAM currently. However, if you have a mid-to-low graphics card you will definitely have to reduce graphics to make the game not look as good as it can be. But yeah it has a TON of configurable video options so you can pretty much get it to run on any video card down to like a $100 budget card.
That said, we plan to optimize, optimize, optimize as we head through Early Access. You can never be too optimized, and we're quite good at that ;)
For Max settings at 1080p, I'd recommend a GeForce 980 or equivalent graphics card. 3.0 Ghz CPU and 8 GB system RAM.
For Min settings at 720p, I'd recommend any DirectX 11 compatible graphics card with at least 1 GB video memory, 4 GB system RAM, and a 2.5 Ghz CPU.
sounds promising
Is there a suicide key?
Right now there is not a suicide key, however there are other means you can use to kill yourself - such as starving to death, eating your poop until you die, jumping off a high-cliff, punching a wall or a tree.
omfg some1 tell me if im sleeping
Hackers and how will they be dealt with?
The server is written to be 100% authoritative about the state of the world, meaning it doesn't trust the client with anything. The client only sends key input to the server, and the server determines all outcomes. This makes the game difficult, or potentially essentially impossible, to hack. The downside is that the server is much more resource intensive because it is doing all calculations for all clients -- but for a serious hardcore online game it is the only way. That said, aimbots and local graphics hacks could still be a concern, and for that we will be employing VAC.
..
We will have VAC and also the capability for server hosts to perma-ban players by Steam ID.
That said, the game should be less hackable than some of the other survival genre games because the server is 100% authoritative about everything in the world, including player movement and attacks.
its ur turn, rust
I too am excited for Rustasaurus.
But to be serious, It looks promising. My only concern is that we've heard so little about this game and it already looks so developed, hopefully its not a let down.
While ARK seems very capable, I get the feeling it's not quite seen the raw testing it needs for people who'd play it (Rust-like dick-fare).
I've heard of some of the PvP elements and while they sound totally crazy- they're not likely to work as intended.
Rust has been developed alongside the community, with Facepunch getting their faces punched by the raw bug and play testing. It's hammered shit, but sturdy hammered shit.
ARK hasn't seen itself stress-tested yet. We'll see just how good it is under real pressure.

Maybe they had enough funding to get it so far but they need a bit more to finish it?
Also player feedback to hammer out the tinks?
30 in game creatures already with 70 planned... there little Dossier is also fun / interesting:

From the looks of it, it looks like its designed to fit in the map book ( when the person is exploring the cave ), that you see in the trailer.
Well, they did develop this much content in just 7 months time.
Lots of nice information with the interview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=427&v=u0UbLtLdoCU
36km of land, 12km² of water, 48km² size. Under water base building. Massive underground cave systems under the entire island. Not bad ... The only disadvantage is that they are working with a fixed map and are planning on selling more maps as a expansion. So Rust has the advantage with the procedural generate maps.
You do see with Rust how much time it costs to make one static maps with a lot of details. And the rust maps is smaller ( compared to the generate maps who are 16m² ( that includes all the water ) ).
The 100 person goal seems to be a less then Rust current 200 max. But frankly ... the map size and play count do not properly scale in my eyes. The 16km² gets very fast build up with a lot of building, be it active or abandon on a server with 170 sleepers and at best 35 active players. Frankly, i find the map too small for more then two weeks up time between wipes. After two weeks the amount of structures is too massive on a semi popular server. Let alone on some of the bigger servers.

Got a LOL from me in the office though seriously, I will believe this game when I see it. Till then, it is pure vapourwear.
Who are these guys though? I've never heard of studio wildcard before, but they sound like they know what they're doing.
