You might want to hold off on preordering Dying Light.

It is about 2 Days until the game is released on steam and there have been no Review Copies dropped for anyone so far. Literally anyone, Jim Sterling and another IGN Reviewer have apparently not gotten copies and ive yet to find any reviews anywhere.

Now where this concerns me is that when i went looking for any news on a review embargo, these series of obscure articles by a few sites popped up.
"Dying Light Reviews Won’t be Embargoed, Techland Wants Game to be as “Transparent” as Possible"
After the controversy over the late Assassin’s Creed Unity embargo date, it only seems natural to be a little wary of embargoes. However, Techland, responding to such worries, has assured us that their upcoming zombie title Dying Light will “be as transparent” as possible.
The title’s lead game designer Maciej Binkowski announced there will be no review embargoes prior to the release of the game, hopefully making the game more transparent to its fans.
No, we do not have embargoes of that nature. We want to be as transparent as we can towards our fans, so don’t worry – there won’t be any review embargoes before the game is released.
At the same time, however, Binkowski also announced the possibility of a demo is “not likely,” meaning that early reviews will be one of the best, if not the only, way to get an idea of how Dying Light runs on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC when it comes out on January 27.
There are a few other sources but the above one sums it up nicely.

Now, i wouldn't have said anything about this but i was actually waiting on some actual reviews before preordering since i know techland's history but this has really put me off buying it, let alone preordering anything.
Just wanted to let you guys know preemptively, if the game is great then it will be great but otherwise i will definitely not be preordering now.
That's really odd considering Two Best Friends got a copy quite a while ago.

Yeah, so did Jessie. The videos looked really good too.
Eh, Jessie's was promotional, so take that with a grain of salt.
2015 needs to be the year that people stop preordering games until the industry proves it deserves it. It's really gotten bad in the last few years, and now we're seeing shit like no embargo but no review copies, because an embargo until launch day is too big a PR hit when just withholding review copies does about the same job.
Maybe Dying Light will be good, maybe not, but there's a pattern of treating us like chumps even stronger than usual lately.

I believe Cry also received a press release copy too. Didn't seem promotional with his case but I might be wrong.
The game did look rather good from his videos although with a few problems there or there.
why do people preorder digital games?
why do people preorder digital games?
Preloading.
why not just buy the game for cheaper after it comes out?
With tons of cd key sites now days like g2a people need to start doing that not preordering.

G2A is a reason a load of people had games removed from their Uplay accounts.

g2a is a shady as fuck key reseller. ubisoft said they weren't an authorized key reseller and were going to start removing uplay keys from people's accounts that bought them from g2a.
why does anyone need to review this game?
it's obviously dead island 1.5
Even if it's like 99% sure it's good, you still shouldn't preload

There's already a Dead Island 1.5, it's called Dead Island: Riptide
I can't tell you the last time I pre-ordered a game. I've been so jaded by almost every single one for the last several years it's ridiculous.
In fact, I've actively avoided even playing games that offer pre-order bonuses because they might as well be trying to get as many sales in as possible before the game even releases because they know it's shit.
As of late pre-order just is a big no-no for me, including this game. There are only a very few exceptions out there like Metal Gear Solid V and GTA V, mainly because both of these developers have proven themselfs to be very decent at porting games (MGS: GZ ran good even on my 2011 laptop and Max Payne 3 which came after the slightly horrid GTA IV port also ran pretty damn good on my old machine.)
Not sure why I should be chastised for wanting to play the game with all of my friends on the release day.
Obviously. Don't pre-order games, especially when they have one of the worst pre-order campaigns.
They seriously gave you more pre-order exclusives the sooner you pre-ordered.

Yeah, The Phantom Pain is pretty much the only game I plan on pre-ordering this year, period.

Rockstar are giving you an extra 300k Online cash ($8 if you were to buy Shark Cards) if you preorder before the 1st of February.
I'd hope techland have learned from the mistakes from Dead Island, i've not been paying attention to Dying Light myself. It's nice to see that they are trying to be transparent about it all, although i'm not entirely sure if they are fully supportive of their game. Although, people not getting the review copies is a concerning.
After last year with The Master Chief Collection being such a state that it was, i've really learnt my lesson not to preorder anything. Not going to preorder Bloodborne since that would require me to buy a PS4 and spend around £300/£400. That's a bit of a risk if anything if it Bloodborne ends up bombing. Phantom Pain seems like the most "safe" game to preorder and even that i'm not 100% decided on, so i'm not going to risk it. I'm not even too sure about buying the game on the first day of release is being "safe".
Heck, some games are just not safe to buy early on because they often come advertised with a season pass for DLC and you'd be better off buying the game a year down the line when it gets rereleased with everything. (Borderlands a prime example, another being Saints Row)
The problem being that we need to teach people who don't read up on this sort of stuff to do the research and not to preorder from everyone. That might solve itself when them getting bitten in the ass to a bad and broken game they preordered however.
I hope I won't see a repeat of Watchdogs, or worse.....Colonial Marines
They did the same thing, releasing the reviews the day the game was available everywhere, and it turned out to be shit.
The TBFP video pretty much sold me on it, I mean i was interested anyways but my only worry was the fact that "what if combat is shitty like dead island", but it looks incredibly weighty and nice. I pre-ordered it, sure. This is purely because I have faith in the game and would like to have it ready to go at midnight tonight. It's not that im buying into the consumerist agenda or any bullshit like that. You can be an educated consumer and still pre-order.
Even if it's like 99% sure it's good, you still shouldn't preload
If you really want a game and you don't care about other people's opinions of it then why the fuck shouldn't you
Dying Light looked kind of shitty imo ever since they first showed it off. I would rather save my money and get Dead Island 2

Yeah, it did look alright, though I won't discard the possibility of it getting worse further in.
My main issue with this game is that it seemingly brings nothing new to the table. Tell me if any of this sounds familiar - It's a zombie apocalypse game where it's a virus that has a temporary cure that you have to constantly get and use and you also primarily use melee weapons with durability and kicks. There are also special zombies you can fight. The only thing it does reasonably new is making night time dangerous and even then i'm pretty sure there's other games out there that do it. It also seems to reuse animations from Dead Island so that's a strike as well.
I mean it looks solid and i'll probably snag it on sale but it's nothing new and i think it shows that we need to stop with zombies for a while.
It's a techland game, that's a big enough reason to not buy it until it's on sale for a very low price.
