About the Game/Series
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle is a fighting game based off of the manga/anime series JoJo's Bizarre Adventures (or JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken) by Hirohiko Araki, which is basically a multi-generational story about people whose names that can be abbreviated to JoJo in one way or another and their bizarre escapades. The various JoJos use special ripple abilities and/or spiritual fighting energies called "Stands" (which are basically ghosts that fight for you sorta) in order to beat up or kill vampire zombies, evil gamblers, psychic babies, men in revealing clothing, people with ultra-specific abilities that make literally 0 sense, serial killers, evil animals, spoiled rich 19 year old musicians, 5000 year old muscular higher-than-vampire guys, priests with super complicated hair, etc, most of which referencing popular music, with stands/characters such as Vanilla Ice, King Crimson, Sex Pistols, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Killer Queen, Crazy Diamond, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Notorious BIG... Basically it's really fucking weird if you take a step back and look at it, so here's a comparison non-JoJo affectinatios might be able to understand: It's like Metal Gear, a perfect blend of "oh shit that's cool" and "hhuuuhh????" Anyways, this shit is fucking huge in Japan; it's been going on since 1986 and has sold over 80 million copies in total and has an absolutely crazy-large following in Japan (and France I think).
The JoJo's Bizarre Adventures All Star Battle game was released in mid-2013 in Japan, with a US release in about a month. It was developed by CyberConnect2, the guys behind those Naruto fighting games, and published by Bandai Namco and is exclusively on the PS3. Since the US release isn't out right now, the only way you can play the game is by importing a copy from Japan for ~32 dollars on Amazon. Do NOT do this, because the western release is going to have a ton of shit that I am putting in a nifty little list right here.
-ALL DLC characters included, meaning that the 50 dollar pricetag is totally worth it.
-A huge amount of bugfixes
-Performance fixes
-Localized text, subtitles, etc
-You'll actually be able to play without knowing Japanese or painstakingly copying each and every Kanji character into google translate!

The Characters
JJBAAS has a roster of 40 JoJo's characters, and a non-JoJo's character from Araki's other manga series. Every major character that fights is a playable character, all of which have dozens of different color palettes and outfits which, again, are all from the manga. Pretty much any cover of any JoJo's issue for Jonathan, Joseph, Jotaro, Josuke*, Giorno, Jolyene, or Johnny has a skin you can earn and wear. Characters either have stands, ripple (or hamon, depending on the translations you've read/watched), or something weird. Like, some characters have different-ish abilities, like Joseph, Hol Horse, Vanilla Ice, Shigekiyo, Akira, Mista, Fugo, Hermes, Pucci, Johnny, and Gyro. Some of them have guns with ammo, weird stands, or something else weird like what Baoh's got, or a goddamn horse. For example, Mista's gun has 6 bullets and he also can control his 6 Sex Pistols using his meter and shit, and Johnny has a horse he pretty much needs to move around without crawling. Pretty cool. The JoJo's ASB page listed at the bottom of the OP has way more info, check that out if you're interested. Also, you start out with basically every JoJo, and a few other major ones. I'm not sure how many characters you start with, but I know for a fact that you have to play the campaign to unlock any of the villain characters.
Also, here's a list of characters. Ignore the "DLC" tag, as all of these characters will be available on launch.

The Gameplay Mechanics

I haven't played this game much, nor have I played many fighting games, but a lot of this is pretty basic. Here's basic gameplay info from the ASB resource page listed at the bottom of the OP
1) Timer
This will count down from 99 until the round ends or if the timer itself reaches zero. If it hits zero, the player with the most life wins the round. The time limit can be changed or removed in the game's options.
2) Life Bars
Getting hit by attacks and blocking specials will deplete this bar. A player whose life bar is completely drained loses the round. In some cases, a player's health bar may contain grey life, which will slowly refill as long as the player isn't hit.
3) Round Counter
If you or your opponent win a round, one of these will fill up. Collect the whole set and you win! The amount of rounds required to take a match can be increased or decreased in the options.
4) Guard Gauge
As you hold away from the opponent and block their onslaught of attacks, this bar will be depleted. A player whose guard gauge is completely drained will be "Guard Crushed" and left open for an attack. The gauge will refill on its own over time.
5) Heart Heat Gauge
A meter the player can undertake in their battle plan for great fabulousness. Used for Heart/Great Heat Attacks, Puttsun Cancels, Stand Rushes, and much more. Specific abilities can use as many as two bars and as little as 10% of a bar.
6) Heart Heat stocks
You can carry up to 3 bars of the Heart Heat Gauge and this will show how much you currently have. The "stocks" are visually displayed as a number as well as with three tokens next to that number.
7) Unique Gauges
Some characters have unique icons and meters above the Heart Heat Gauge. These display a variety of unique abilities specific to these characters. Joseph, Hol Horse, Vanilla Ice, Shigekiyo, Akira, Mista, Fugo, Hermes, Pucci, Johnny, and Gyro have these.
The game also has around 10 or so stages, all of which are based off of key locations from the manga, like Dio Brando's mansion, Yoshikage Kira's house, Morioh, Naples Train Station, Green Dolphin prison, etc. All of the stages have a unique event, such as Beach Boy throwing his hook at you in the Naples Train Station, the chandelier falling down in Dio's mansion, the chariot coming around in the Skeletal Heel Stone Arena, and frogs raining down in the Green Dolphin prison. There's also situational finishes in each stage that I'm not going to post about because they reveal a bit too much about the plot of each part. If you've read the manga or seen the first 2 parts of the anime, some of this stuff sounds super familiar, which is what leads me to my next section
Authenticity
From what most people have been telling me, JJBA AS is a not a very good fighting game. It's sorta clunky, has horrible loading times (15 seconds to get into a game!!), and had a ton of bugs and unbalanced characters on release. However, the game is perfect for JoJo's fan because literally everything in the game is 1:1 with the manga. Ever single run animation, every single attack, be it special or just a regular jab, every map, every skin, and of course, every character is accurate as hell.

Take a look at this video. Every single damn pose each character does is lifted directly from a manga page. This game is cool as hell if you're a JoJo's fanatic.

You can preorder it here. It has all DLC included, all patches, a new arcade gamemode, and I'm pretty sure they've done their best to get rid of all the dropped frames.
I actually want to play this with some of you guys, so let's try to keep this thread alive. Also akuma if you don't want to manage the OP I can do it for you.
HHHHHHHH i wish speedwagon was in
no matter i'll still buy the shit out of it
oh, nice
i actually just tried out Heritage for the Future for the first time today, and it was pretty fun

They're missing Stroheim.
HHHHHHHH i wish speedwagon was in

Speedwagon is the main announcer in the game, like in the main menus and I think the actual fights.

I know, but I want him as a playable character. Honest to god he's my favorite Jojo character.
i really don't how how he'd work as a playable character though
but i've only watched the recent show so w/e

he wouldn't. he was god awfully weak in part 1 and he didn't fight in part 2.
the real crime is that stroheim isn't a playable character
nazi salute taunt/pose
I only like Speedwagon cuz whenever he gets some panel/screen time, he's always flipping his shit.
I'm only up to part 4 on the manga, and honestly I thought Joseph was my favorite Joestar. Now Josuke is warming up to me ever slowly.
please tell me that the December 2014 release date on that amazon page is wrong, i can't wait that long.

i was actually thinking of importing it, but march is soon enough for me.
Also i heard there will be a limited amount of physical copies, so if you care about it like i do, pre-ordering now seems like the best thing to do.

I'll probably preorder it tomorrow, I don't expect it to be so limited as to be sold out by then, hopefully.

I only got into JoJo last year but I'm a massive fan now who's reading part 6 currently and counting the days until the stardust crusaders anime.
By all accounts it's a crap fighting game, but I'll be damned if it doesn't look like it makes for an excellent party game if you have friends who also like Jojo.
I honestly couldn't see this played competitively at all because of all of the weird overpowered bullshit and crazy mechanics.
It's more of a "hey come over to my house and play this game about musclemen that wear lipstick with me" kind of thing. That's why I'm buying it.
[editline]5th February 2014[/editline]
also if speedwagon was a playable character he'd only have like 4 moves
1. cry
2. scream "JOJJJJJJOOOOOOOOOOOO"
3. warm up frozen hands with his rock-hard abs.
4. throw a hat once
people consider UMvC3 to be competitive so why not
yeah, good point. the only fighters i've played that i think are worthy of competitive play are street fighter 4 and skullgirls. everything else is a couch game to me.
is will zeppeli a good character in ASB this is really important

Agreed. No one can even try to nitpick about it because both Josephs are up there

Josuke is top tier, naturally.
People still try and take super smash bros as a serious fighting game so I don't understand why this isn't.
Whoop whoop granddad joseph makes an appearance. I'm glad we're getting all DLC from us debut.
I thought I'd try the original JoJo's Bizarre Adventure on the PSN shop, and it's actually really solid for a fighter.
Was pretty excited but heard the actual game is pretty shit and only good for "haha I remember that kinda"
Not sure if it's worth the pricetag just to play a messy fighting game

Surprised Baoh isn't at the top tier. He's used quite often in player matches.
i'm saddened to see that part 3 dio is not that great
