Before you ask, yeah you can talk about other Tabletop RPGs here. In fact we aren't even talking about D&D at all like 99% of the time.

What is Dungeons and Dragons
Are you kidding me? Dungeons & Dragons is everything. Dungeons & Dragons is one of the most fun experiences you can have with your friends, and even people you don't know!
Now this might not be enough information for you greedy little bastards, so prepare for some Good Ol' Mr. Wikipedia:
Dungeons & Dragons (abbreviated as D&D or DnD) is a fantasy role-playing game (RPG) originally designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, and first published in 1974 by Tactical Studies Rules, Inc. The game has been published by Wizards of the Coast since 1997. It was derived from miniature wargames with a variation of the Chainmail game serving as the initial rule system. D&D's publication is widely regarded as the beginning of modern role-playing games and the role-playing game industry.
So maybe I got you interested, and you want to play a game of D&D. What you should do is simply Google your place with "Dungeons & Dragons" behind it, or whatever suits you, and then see if you get results out of that. If not, try to find a FLGS (Friendly Local Game Store) in your area. They will organize these games, and many other games, so you can play a game and meet new guys.
So just go ahead to your FLGS, ask the store owner about D&D and he should be able to tell you anything you need to know. If he is incapable of doing that, you can always ask around in this thread.

More importantly, it's a game for hairy nerds. just looks at this guy's armhair

Are you a hairy nerd? Better get playing if you are. Are you not a hairy nerd? Fine I guess you can play too. Maybe.
The last OP pointed to a bunch of shitty wikis, but i'm going to point you to the System Reference Documents instead because they're actually good and useful. You can literally play the game with just the SRD and an online dice roller if you want to, you don't have to buy shit. If you don't want to. Sure is nice with those big lunky physical books, though.
Here's the SRD for Pathfinder, which is basically an improved version of 3.5e.
And just in case you got into a 3.5e game somehow, here's the SRD for that as well.
4e and 5e I am afraid don't have legal SRDs, so if you want to play one of those without shelling out the bucks for the books, well.
Same goes for the older editions, as well, unfortunately.
There's also the Dungeon World, which is essentially an extremely rules light version of D&D, which has the strength of being extremely easy to learn, but the weakness of having no flexibility whatsoever, very few character options, and somehow being able to make playing a wizard a chore. It's pretty good for beginners and people who hate wizards.
And like Pathfinder, it has a free SRD which everything you need to play it, and it's right here.
And don't forget that there's always a massive amount of Tabletop RPGs out there that you've likely never heard of. Some of them might even be good. A few, really good. Most are trash though, just like every other media. Try to keep an open mind, and you can easily end up finding one of the great ones.

I was really considering writing something else there, but then I realized I am lazy so I just copy pasted that part from the last thread.

i'll add the SRD to the OP though
Not 3.5? 0/10.

You should add the ENTIRE SRD to the OP.
Since we have a new thread, I think I'll make a suggestion. We should just have a list of recommended games/systems in the OP, maybe even picking out a few to label as 'Beginner Friendly'.
Cyberpunk 2020 best game
dungeon world srd gives me a malware warning :v:
We could just list each type of game that people suggest in the OP, with a link to a wiki or other similar source for information on the game.
From the old thread:
I'm working on making a little bit of an revision to DTD, basically, the Demons (the fallen), are former demons of the circles of hell, who have been operating on earth since the dawn on man to bring about the apocalypse. You were from Lust (Carnal's), Greed (Avarice's), Wrath (Fury's), Envy (Covet's) and Pride (Ego's).
However, the Fallen don't really remember that much from their lives as Demons, and have no clue what their purpose truly is. The only thing they truly remember are the the demon kings of hell, So they pledge themselves to their patron king.
You have The Lucific Church; The Mammonic Order, a fraternity; S.I.N. (Satan's Infernal Network), a supranational organization, think HYDRA or SPECTRE; The Learned Society of Leviathan, a University of sorts; and the Seed of Asmodeus, pretty much just a straight up cult.
That sound like a good start? It's a lot more high powered and global than other games, but you're a demon, that's kind of the point.

Well, Mekton Zeta has http://www.mektonzeta.com/ if you want to list it. :v: Oh, and http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Adeptus_Evangelion has p much everything related to the Adeptus Evangelion project.

I propose Phoenix Command as the perfect game for beginners

Play Savage Worlds instead /thread
I've become increasingly attached to mutants and masterminds 3E. It's pretty easy to use once you get it all set up!
Cyberpunk 2020 best game
Shadowrun is better.
Man 4E is the only edition of D&D I haven't played.
Also had an amazing PTU session.
Shadowrun is better.
Any system with giant robots as the focus is better.
Any system with giant robots as the focus is better.
So Deathwatch is up your alley, huh?

I'm gonna DM my first game soonish and it's Adeptus Evangelion. On a scale of 1 to shinji screaming in english, how would you rate my impending experience
Also, for the thread, a list of the systems I've read that I'd consider good for beginners.
Pathfinder: It has a huge amount of content, and has a basis of very classic RPG rules. You will certainly play this at some point. I don't even really need to explain it.
D&D 5E: A lighter, more friendly version of your classic game, which adds in narrative rules without becoming shit.
Fiasco: It's GMless, meaning everyone takes equal part telling the story. Each session is one-shot and plays out like a Cohen Brothers movie, with tangled webs of plots and relationship. Really fun, and you barely have to commit anything to play it.
FFG Star Wars: I you ever wanted to play a Star Wars game that actually captures the pulpy feel of the original trilogy, this is the system. Has a really nice (read, expensive) dice system which makes combat and interaction genuinely engaging. There are three systems out, one for your Han Solo's (Edge of the Empire), your Luke Skywalker's (Age of Rebellion), and your Obi-Wan Kenobi's (Force and Destiny).
Call of Cthulhu: Ever wanted to feel insignificant against forces beyond your control which will destroy you without batting an eye? Well look no further than good ol' CoC! In this game, you don't play classes, you play as people, doing their darndest to stop whatever apocalypse is coming their way. You'll probably die... well, you'll definitely die, but you'll have a good time doing it.
I'm gonna DM my first game soonish and it's Adeptus Evangelion. On a scale of 1 to shinji screaming in english, how would you rate my impending experience
Emotionally traumatizing. If nobody dies or turns into orange goo you're doing it wrong. Probably.
I'm gonna DM my first game soonish and it's Adeptus Evangelion. On a scale of 1 to shinji screaming in english, how would you rate my impending experience
I've never played AE but it seems like one of those games where engaging the players with tone is really important. So, you'll find out how good your improv feel-weaving is.
I'm gonna DM my first game soonish and it's Adeptus Evangelion. On a scale of 1 to shinji screaming in english, how would you rate my impending experience
Depends how you GM it. Make the onset of horror gradual if you can. And change up the mythology to keep your players guessing.
why do people still bother with 3.5e and 4e when 5e is out and it doesn't suck in the least.
why do people still bother with 3.5e and 4e when 5e is out and it doesn't suck in the least.
3.5 has so much content
why do people still bother with 3.5e and 4e when 5e is out and it doesn't suck in the least.
Well, it's difficult to switch systems over for old groups. And some people only know 3.5e or 4e.
Those people are idiots, of course, but a lot of people are.
Not sure if it fits the thread but
Playing through Baldurs Gate 2 again
It's so gooood
Seriously, games like this aren't made anymore
