So in case you didn't know: Super Meat Boy was recently released October 6th for the PS4 and PSVita. One significant change is the creators werent able to secure the rights of the original soundtrack, so they were forced to make a new one. Three musicians were hired for different parts; Ridiculon, the creators of the OST for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth created The title theme, the intro theme and most cutscene themes, The Forest tracks, Hell tracks, The Rapture tracks, and The End Tracks [t]https://f1.bcbits.com/img/a3387522825_16.jpg[/t] Scattle, the creator of several tracks in the Hotline Miami series, created The Hospital tracks, and The Salt Factory Tracks. [t]https://f1.bcbits.com/img/a2306138168_10.jpg[/t] Finally, Laura Shigihara, creator of the OST for Plants vs. Zombies, created the Cotton Alley tracks. [t]https://f1.bcbits.com/img/a2419883623_10.jpg[/t] What's your guys thoughts? Do you like the new tracks? Do you like the old ones better? I'm curious to hear what people think.
The Scattle ones are good. I don't think the Ridiculon ones really do the original justice though. Those cotton alley ones are alright too but still not quite there I think.

The Ridiculon ones I had to take some time to get the taste of them, but I like them too, especially hearing the Isaac in some of them. The Laura ones I hate. Sorry, no offense to the artist, I'm sure she's talented, but the original had a cute but club-fast paced feel to them. The ones she made feel more like they were taken from a cutscene of My Little Pony. I haven't got to cotton alley yet, but I'm now not looking forward to it.
I prefer the old Symphonic Technogrunge songs. The original OST had a more unique sound that was better to me as well as holding a similar music style through the entire game compared to mixing composers. Also, The Battle of Lil' Slugger. No matter how good the new one is, everyone who played the game in the past is way more attached to the old soundtrack anyways.

For me: Forest: Old. I just think that that one stick with me. I do like the new one. It's an interesting track Hospital: New. No doubt. The new one I got down with instantly. Salt Factory: Half and Half. New for Light and Boss, Old for dark. Hell: Old for Light and Dark, New for Boss Rapture: Not sure. Both. The End: New. Cotton Alley: I wouldn't fuck the new one with a 10 foot rusty pole. Old for life.

You're probably a different case and I'll give it a listen myself, but most people are always going to prefer the old one.
I fell asleep listening to Scattles songs. They all sound the same and boring.
The new ones don't seem nearly as fitting to me. Quite a few of them sounded too similar too. A few of them were alright (the Hell tracks in particular) but even those ones I don't think fit as well personally.
Second thought; The End and Rapture tracks weren't too bad. Still prefer the old style. Not sure how to properly label the music genre, but Symphonic Technogrunge is the best thing I can come up with.
No matter how good the new one is, everyone who played the game in the past is way more attached to the old soundtrack anyways.
Agreed. Imagine if Nintendo re-released Super Mario World with a new soundtrack from a different composer. It might be good, but the original soundtrack is so ingrained into my mind that it would sound jarring.

While most of the new tracks are like able, I think we can all agree that the new cotton alley is total garbage, right?
Been listening to the soundtrack on Youtube for awhile now. This one stands out like a sore thumb, this doesn't sound like Meat Boy at all...

Like pure electric guitar.
Really can't stand the new Forest songs.
Really can't stand the new Forest songs.
I really am disappointed with it. With the tracks Ridiculon threw out for Isaac, I would've thought that they would've rocked it, but it falls flat.
Anyone know why they couldn't get the rights?
Anyone know why they couldn't get the rights?
I think Edmund said that he didn't have the time. But earlier he and Danny had a sort of argument, which is why Danny wasn't involved with the new Isaac soundtrack. I'm not saying it's that, but "not enough time" sound like a confident excuse to me. Or maybe he legitimately didn't have enough time. Who knows.
Anyone know why they couldn't get the rights?
Popular theory is Baranowsky and Edmund aren't on the best of terms anymore after Baranowsky wasn't able to make any music for mewgenics that Edmund was happy enough with, and Edmund instead went to someone else to do it and hasn't gone back to Baranowsky since (even for the Binding of Isaac remake). but idk! it's hard to think of any other reason Baranowsky wouldn't want his music in the port besides a falling out. Surely it'd just be up to Baranowsky if the port uses his music or not.
So I made a better survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/S7JTHD9 And just so people know, this isn't me doing all of this to tell Edmund I don't like the new track or anything, I'm genuinely curious what people think.
I was immediately taken off guard when i started up the PS4 version Danny Baranowsky is half the reason i play that game

Many of you have probably already seen the news, but my soundtrack for Super Meat Boy will not be in the PS4/Vita versions. This is because I no longer have a working relationship with Team Meat. You may also know that I did not do the soundtrack for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. I made a decision a couple years ago to end my working relationship with them for many reasons that don’t really need to be listed here. I apologize for any disappointment this may cause my fans. I’ve heard rumors that there were creative differences between us; this is not true, or at least was never communicated to me. I own all the rights to my music, and Team Meat approached me to license the music for the PS4 and Vita versions. I didn't feel like the license fee and exposure through PSN they offered was enough to make me seriously consider accepting the deal. I decided to decline their offer. I wish them and the new artists the best of luck with the game. I genuinely appreciate all the outreach from fans today. I love you guys! -danny
http://dannybstyle.blogspot.com/2015/10/regarding-my-super-meat-boy-soundtrack.html
I was actually pretty disappointed when I heard the new one, and I was immediately thrown off. Didn't even know it was actually a whole situation thing
Ok, I'm not sure if anyone is subscribed to this forum, so no one might see this... I found something out. All of the album version of the OST is made to have two loops of the track. With Danny it was just two loops and that'd it's, but with the new one it's changed. For Scattle and Laura S.'s tracks it works like that too. It's just two loops of the in game track. Ridiculon's isn't. With the Isaac soundtrack, the tracks they made were designed so they would have an extra instrument or rock ballad that played along if you encountered a room with lots of enemies. I found out that they did the same for these tracks. For example, take the track that most people dislike: If you start at 0:01, you are hearing the album version. It is not in game, it's just meant for the listener to enjoy. If you start at 1:48, which is the second loop, you are hearing the track played in game. THIS APPLIES TO ALL OF RIDICULONS TRACKS. THE FIRST LOOP IS ALBUM VERSION, THE SECOND LOOP IS IN GAME VERSION If you listen to this song again, but start at the second loop, the in game version , you can hear that it actually fits a forest boss really well.
