Champions
Champions are powerful heroes and villains recruited from across the multiverse to fight against the impending Crisis. As a Protector, you direct their movements and attacks in coordination with your team and to defeat your enemies. There are currently 43 playable champions.
Champions are sorted in several different main roles: Assassins (Champions with mobility and burst damage.), Blasters (Powerful spellcasters.), Bruisers (Warriors and fighters.), Controllers (Champions with supportive skills.), Enforcers (Tanks with crowd control and zoning skills.), and finally Marksmen (Champions that deal most of their damage with Basic Attacks.). Apart from that, champions are classified by the type of Damage they utilize: Attack Damage or Power Damage (though there are a few that utilize both kinds of Damage, called Hybrid Damage dealers.).
While most champions must be manually unlocked with Merit (currency gained by playing matches or meeting certain objectives) or Crisis Coins (cash currency) to use them, there are several that can be obtained by completing the tutorial course. These champions are: Batman, Gaslight Batman, Doomsday, Green Lantern, Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman. Additionally, The Joker can be unlocked by simply logging into the game several days in a row. Apart from that, there always a pool of free Champions that changes regularly.
The more you play a Champion, the more experience they gain, eventually raising their level and unlocking rewards like their Unique Stolen Powers, special cosmetic frames, and even a special Protector icon.

Artifacts
Artifacts are purchasable items that provide special benefits and bonuses for your champion to increase their strength, endurance and performance in and out of battle. They can be bought while standing inside a base's spawn region and also while standing near friendly turrets (Though consumable items will have no stacks if brought from outside your spawn.), and they are purchased with Credits that are obtained from defeating enemy Chapions, drones and creatures. Artifacts can be salvaged for a portion of their original cost.
These artifacts are classified in four main artifact types which are then subdivided by the invididual stats they provide: Attack (All offensive items that provide Attack bonuses, and stats that are benefical for basic attackers.), Health (All defensive items that allow you and/or your team to stay in the fight longer.), Power (All offensive items that provide Power bonuses, and stats that are benefical for spellcasters.) and General (All active "consumable" artifacts, and stats that universal statistics.).

Is it good
Is the whole Champion Library unlocked or does it have the f2p renting scheme
If so, is it a well-rounded system and you can rent any Champion you want without paying? (ex: Smite)
Why should I be playing this over any other moba?

Nope, it has the regular f2p unlock system, though the merit (free currency) gain rates + all the things that give you bonus currency (both merit and crisis coins, the cash currency.), it doesn't take that long to unlock each character. The game also permanently unlocks 5 characters (Gaslight Batman, Doomsday, Green Lantern, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman) after you beat the game's tutorial course. You then can unlock Batman by playing 5 full regular matches, and then The Joker though the daily grants (the game grants you things if each day you log in), by loging 6? days in (no need to do it in a row, the system only progresses when you log in, and doesn't reset if you miss a day or more.).
They also made a package in a similar fashion to Smite's Ultimate god pack, where you pay a fixed number to get all characters currently in the game for a relatively low cost (Don't quote me on this but I think that, unlike the god pack, this one doesn't unlock future characters for free? But I have no clue since the latest character was released hours ago and is included.).
Apart from being tailored to appeal to most DC fans (references everywhere, dialogs between characters, characters talking to alt. universe versions of themselves, characters voiced by the actors that voiced them in other works like the DCAU, etc.), it has several twists and ideas that are new, which can be interesting to moba players who are either tired of playing the same thing over and over again and/or who want more variety without moving out of the genre. Its alteast interesting enough for me to play it along with the other ones I play (Smite, Dota, etc.).
Also remember: You don't need to switch from whatever you play to play this one, playing multiple games from the same genre won't make you combust spontaneously.
I love the DC Comic universe so I am very excited to try this. However, the "confirmation email" they keep sending me in order to play doesn't contain a verification link so I am very confused.
Nevermind, attempting to login a second time works. Email verification is no longer needed even though the game prompts you for it.
In case anyone is interested, there are a couple of sites giving codes for Sinestro's Fearsome Tyrant skin. Using a skin code for a character you don't own will also unlock the character for free.

Sorry for the bump but I got a couple news that are fairly important:
First, today they revealed the next character (they had already teased him with the steam trading cards): Lex Luthor.
He'll be a blaster who can deploy sentries and upgrade them with his other two skills and his passive creates a link between them that transfers these upgrades + deals damage to anyone touching the beams (sort of like Path of Exile's Searing Bond totems). His ultimate is a long range linear orbital strike. ("Make it rain")

Second, PC Gamer is giving 45 starter packs and 5 elite packs (all characters in the game) in a raffle, so if you are poor/cheap then this is your chance to shine: http://www.pcgamer.com/infinite-crisis-giveaway-key-win/
Now for something that no one cares about: Yesterday I got my first pentakill!

For the few of you in facepunch who play or are interested in the game: They are going to open up a new region for South America, and will most likely be live on April 15: https://www.infinitecrisis.com/en/news/infinite-crisis-adds-south-american-server
Apart from that, today's update (Changelog) brought the initial changes for the introduction of ranked gameplay. To play ranked you'll need to meet two requirements: Own 14 characters, and play atleast 20 regular matches (only matches from after this update was released count). They won't implement a player level restriction since they want ranked to be a place where people play "seriously" in contrast of normal queues, not just a bonus queue for high levels.
Also Lex Luthor is coming out on April 29.
Lex Luthor is out and they released an update yesterday, one of the additions being Ranked queues. http://www.infinitecrisis.com/en/news/construct-update-release-notes-version-13
On other news, they recently had a 1vs1 melee tournament where they accidentally leaked 5 future character releases (all melee of course):
*Deathstroke (attack damage bruiser)
*Dex-Starr (attack damage bruiser)
*Nightmare Catwoman (she a sphinx. power damage enforcer)
*Solomon Grundy (power damage enforcer)
*General Zod (no idea)
And here's solomon grundy's artwork:
