What's Guns of Icarus Online?
Guns of Icarus Online sounds like a JRPG. It is not a JRPG.
What actually is Guns of Icarus Online?
Guns of Icarus Online is a skirmish game set in a steampunk world by Muse Games. Players take on the role of a four person crew of an airship and battle against other airships vying for supremacy. Teamwork, coordination and communication are essential to staying alive, and players must master a balance between offense and defense. One more player firing the guns means there is one less player able to repair the airship.

What classes are there in Guns of Icarus?
Pilot- Ideally one per crew, the pilot carries three tools that help him manipulate the airship. These tools allow him to propel the vessel at great speeds, or even fire dangerous smog out of the engines. He also carries one gunner tool and one engineer tool.
Engineer- The most important motherfucker on the airship, you'd probably do well to have two on board. They carry one three engineer tools, one pilot tool and one gunner tool. Engineer tools allow him to repair, rebuild components of the airship, buff guns and engines, or put out fires.
Gunner- This guy shoots things. He carries three gunner tools which are basically like different ammo types. These tools allow the user to manipulate the guns on the airship to act differently, such as fire with less recoil, fire faster, or fire incendiary rounds. There is even an ammo type that boosts the power of a single round significantly, but fully damages the weapon. The gunner carries one pilot tool and one engineer tool as well.

What is the gameplay like?
Players typically are formed in teams of three airships and fight against three other airships. Each airship can have four players on board, and players can modify their airships to fit their needs. Unfortunately, there is no boarding combat, so players carry no personal weapons.

What ships are there?
There is currently six models to choose from. The Galleon, for example, carries powerful weapons and has a lot of armor, but is difficult to maneuver and difficult to navigate through. On the opposite side of the spectrum, the Squid carries three light weapons and is very lightly armored. However, the squid is extremely fast and compact, making it very easy to manage and repair. The other ships, the Spire, the Pyramidion, the Junker and the Goldfish all fall between this spectrum, all with their own specialties and weaknesses.

The Galleon

And the Spire (which nobody uses because it's not shaped like a boat)
How can airships be customized?
Every airship has several weapon slots. Captains can choose how they want to equip these slots. Weapons include gatling guns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, harpoon guns, flak-cannons and even flame-throwers, allowing you to customize your playstyle. This allows you to take airships and completely repurpose them for different styles of combat.

What about player customization?
Players can customize the visual appearance of their character through microtransactions. They are, however, fairly cheap and allow you to drastically change the cosmetics of your character. Items range anywhere from 3$ to .50 cents and is done through the Steam Wallet. These have no effect on gameplay and are purely aesthetic.

How much is Guns of Icarus?
10$ currently on steam, although you can buy a four-pack for 20$. (5$ per person if you can't do math you rube)
What is planned
Guns of Icarus is currently still in development, and the developers are currently trying to add co-operative play to the game currently titled as "Adventure Mode". Although still foggy, it seems like there are plans to eventually evolve the game into an open-world game where the players join factions and travel across the world. There will be an AI director that controls enemy warships and biplanes that will attack players. They have a kickstarter which will determine the extent of this meta-game.

This game is ridiculously fun. I play as pilot mostly.
Definitely worth buying.
Definately getting it tomorrow(on my birthday, yay!) while the discount lasts. I've seen couple of videos about it, but Criken's and TGS' made me want to buy it even more.
I bought it when it was on sale. Never got into it until TGS battle royale. The game is great fun, especially when your captain ain't mute.

Some pictures I took yesterday.
This game is the best. Buy it and support kickstarter it's an amazing time.
I'm gonna get this in a week or two. Friend has it. Does the game have clans/factions/teams/whatever? If so we should form an FP one. Also does it have a built-in voice chat system?

I don't know about clans, but yeah it has built-in voicechat.

Currently, there are only opposing sides in team-deathmatch. In the future with adventure mode they plan on adding six factions: Anglean Republic, Yesha Empire, Mercantile guild, Arashi League, Fjord Baronies and the Order of Chaladon.
Picked this up yesterday for the hell of it and ive been having tons of fun with it, the voicechat is usually spammed with shitty music and annoying 12 year olds and usually when it says match will start in 5 seconds it turns out to be like 3 minutes but other than that its really fun.

They rolled out an update the other day that caused that problem... It's fixed now though.
I thought the community was pretty mature. I started playing last night, and every single server I joined, it was composed of calm, level-headed 20 year olds who cooperated and clearly gave out orders. Didn't run into any micspammers or poor sports at all.
The Manticore makes me want to rip out my hair. Fighting against one of them is reasonable, but when every ship on the enemy team has one, it's a little absurd.
I've played this game 4 hours straight, and I do not regret spending my time on it. This game is SO fun and everything is based on co-operation between you and other members of the crew. Also I've seen that devs are usually on the mai game chat as well.
I hope the Adventure Mode DLC turns out to be awesome, because I backed the campaign for $30

But I've only played for ~5 hours...

Well you know what they say about time flying when you have fun...
So...any interesting news on that Adventure mode yet?

also is there another thread I don't know about?
Sorry for the necropost, but this game is ridiculously fun with a decent crew. It's a shame it doesn't get any more recognition.
Anyone here still play, this recently picked this up during the sale and I'm having a blast?
We should form a FP crew
I'm always up to pilot some shit. Ingame name is same as here, just add me on steam.
Our ship has just been hit with a flamethrower. The gunner and the other engineer are standing around the armor which has 20 stacks of fire, one hitting it with a hammer over and over while the other tries to use the fire prevention spray which barely removes any stacks of fire. But he can't even remove any because hammer man is still hitting it putting it in cooldown repeatedly. And I'm just mashing the mouse button with my fire extinguisher hoping to put it out between the swings of the hammer and before super soaker guy gets it. We get taken out and I point out that is not how to put out a fire effectively. The idiot engineer goes "WULL U DUN NO HOW ETHER!" So I kindly point out that hitting a fire with a hammer will not put it out, but a fire extinguisher will and he goes "Wull I dun have one!" And I remind him that I was standing there with one in my hands while he soaped it up and he definitely saw me standing there with it. So from there on he bitched about me saying they were handling the fire wrong and sarcastically going "Am I doing it right, Coldmute?"
No, he was still being a fuck up. In fact, he was spraying an engine that wasn't on fire at all and there were no enemies nearby to set it on fire, but never actually repaired the thing.
And our pilot apparently felt the smog clouds were an inviting place to fly the ship through. And the gunner and idiot engineer barely spent any time actually on the guns. And they never could be arsed to use the damn flamethrower when we had a ship on our port side. So I had to do the job of engineer and gunner between the stupid idiots on my crew. Amazingly enough we still won, though more because the other ship had an entire crew that was smart.
Just picked this up in the humble bundle and loving it so far, we definitely some sort of FP crew.

The game quality is certainly improved when everyone on your ship has mics.
This game is really fun with good team mates.
This is one of the few games where I can RP and actually take part in combat effectively. RP doesn't really prevent you from fighting at all.
Picked it up because of the sale, having a ton of fun playing as an engineer.
Definitely worth the money.
Love being a pilot captain.
It gets really bad when you get stupid teammates. If you have to tell your gunner to switch gunns more then 1 time then it's pure hell. If your engineers keep trying to be gunners when hull or balloon is broken then it's hell too.

If you've both lost your armor, then its best to just lay in to them and try to and take them out before they get you because its going to be near impossible to recover while under fire. Even if just one person on their ship is firing, they can easily break your armor the moment you rebuild it. So in that case, just keep everyone firing and try to take them out first then recover.
I remember playing this as a gunner on a goldfish with a frontal Lumberjack and then just wrecking people from across the map with the Lesmok Rounds.

You can only fire 2 guns at one ship at a time. So more then 2 people at guns is pointless. Attacking multiple ships is even more pointless, unless the 2 ships near you are all without hull so you can hope to destroy both (very unluckily).
