I made this thread to discuss the many things we want in Half-life 3, now i'll be honest, I think Valve really outdone themselves with Portal 2. I'm sure that i speak for everyone else in saying that the graphical leap between Portal and Portal 2 was a jaw dropping one. I still remember my reaction to the Portal 2 e3 trailer.
But Half-life 2 was a gigantic leap from Half-life 1, and it's expected that it will leap once again with unbelievable results.

However, what is it that Half-life 3 needs in order to be revolutionary as Half-life 2 was and still is?
These are the many things Valve should consider.
Unpredictable Story-line
The many surprises of Half-Life 2 would probably have to be the change of environment from a Sterile Laboratory filled with Extraterrestrials to a Dystopian City ruled by an unstoppable Intergalactic Race. Half-Life 2 certainly wouldn't of had the same spark had it kept Black Mesa as the main location.
Linear world
One of the many things that made me love Half-life 2 was how you don't have a choice in what to do or where to go, ironically this contradicts the name of the player, Gordon Freeman, because you really aren't free, you only have one choice.
keeping focus on the player
This is a constant trend in the Half-life games, and it shouldn't be abandoned, it keeps the experience immersive and realistic at the same time. Never is there a moment where you separate from Gordon's view, everything that happens is seen through him, and you begin to feel more like the player, you feel like you truly are the one who is going through these experiences.
Moving from A to B
I think this is a story element that fills this experience with adrenaline and tension, every time we attempt to get to a location or perform a simple task, something always happens that forces us to leave the location or get there in a much more slower way.
Graphical Enhancement
This is probably one of the biggest things that made Half-Life 2 such a hit in it's time, the comparison of Half-life 1 and Half-life 2 really was a huge thing that many fans probably weren't expecting or didn't think it would get to the level it reached. And how Valve manages to keep it looking pretty AND playable on old computers without high level specs, is kinda incredible, and i have no doubt that Valve understands this very well, which is most likely linked to it's long-term development cycle.
So, is this a debate or what?
Half Life 3 will be a text-based adventure game running on DOS.

Are you aware that Half-Life 3 hasn't even been massively publicly acknowledged by Valve yet?
That would pose a problem when requesting an HL3 model.
Also none of us are sure what the point of this thread is.

While I'm hoping for some good old HL3 singleplayer campaign continuation (and perhaps ending), I'm also really hoping that HL3 would introduce a more ambitious multiplayer.
Like, more ambitious than just Half-life death match. Like with finally some player-controlled vehicles (Combine APC's, helicopters, even Gunships), bigger and more destructive maps, some objectives between Resistance and Combine teams bringing down/defending certain buildings, more play with physics, etc.
One can dream...
I'm looking forward to Half-Life 3.
I just want an experience like Half-Life 1 and 2. That's all. No fancy multiplayer component or hats/microtransactions or VR exclusivity. Just a single player game that i can play from beginning to end without interruption.

I remember when I was obsessed with Half-Life as much as OP was. Those were the days.

Oh, i think i see the issue. I'm not requesting for someone to get me a model from Half-Life 3, i mean make a model that is identical to the one in the trailer? but that was in another thread i made, this was about discussing what we want to see in Half-Life 3.

Lmao do you really think that's an actual HL3 trailer
It's fan made, and so is everything in it.
The guy who made is on this forum

What? I know the trailer's fan made, i SAID that i would like the model of Alyx wearing the Ushanka in winter clothes from the fan made trailer to be released or make one similar to it.
I can see why there was confusion but i hope that cleared it up.
Well ok if this is a discussion about what we want to see, I would really like to see full workshop support for Maps, weapon mods, ect. Hopefully with some kind of measure to make sure the workshop doesn't get filled with a bunch of shit like L4D2's is right now.
Also You might want to put the Point of Discussion in the OP so people are more aware of the this thread is for.
or you could post that in the HL megathread instead of wasting space here
The thing I'd like to see the most in Half life 3 is Half Life 3.
[sp]but it won't ever happen[/sp]
This article I read explained it really well.

That just makes me really sad, and also adds to my rapidly-growing fear that I might need to reconsider my desire to work for Valve.
Wasn't there some rumors about HL3 being open world?
I'm not sure I like that. I like linear stuff, especially in a game like Half Life. sometimes it's really easy to lose focus and fall off when you've got too much on your plate

I would have to agree. Half-Life is just not the game to have that kind of game play, but I wouldn't mind some open environments.
