This thread is dedicated to Bethesda's long lasting series related to a bunch of old papers.
Why should you play The Elder Scrolls? The titles of this series are usually big ass sandboxes with tons of content that will last a really long time, big ass modding community and good enough lore, apart from Schick.
The essential mods listed in (almost) every section are intended to be a base to prepare the game for modding or to play vanilla without issues. No one of these mods should vary gameplay from what the developer originally intended.

The first in the series, started out as an arena game, but at the last moment they decided to make an RPG instead, forming the series we all know and love. No big booty mods.

Featuring dynamically generated dungeons and a big ass map, Daggerfall is probably the best "don't pass the night outside" simulator. Nude mods included in vanilla, regular booty only.
DaggerXL is a rewrite of the original Daggerfall that adds features such as distant land and proper support outside MS-DOS.
Daggerfall Tools for Unity is an ongoing project that aims to port native Daggerfall data to Unity, no, not the Ubisoft one.

Probably the best title in the entire series. Obsolete combat, game breaking skills but good old fashioned fun. Also, good main quest and good dungeon delving experience. Also, CHIM. Extensive mod support, but not many big booty mods. No diagonal walking animation.
OpenMW, like DaggerXL, is a rewrite of the original engine that aims to add new features without drowning the game with injectors. Also, spears.
Expansions:
Tribunal - The city of Mournhold, where that old hag Almalexia lives, is being attacked by robots.
Bloodmoon - Hircine, aroused from a Twilight fanfiction, unleashes the werewolves against the population of Solstheim.
Essential mods:
Morrowind Code Patch + Beta - It fixes a lot of stuff, and it's completely modular.
Morrowind Patch Project - Are you dreaming of a bugless Bethesda game? Close enough. Bug Musk Telvanni hasn't been removed though.
MGE XE + beta - Why is this essential? It enhances even vanilla Morrowind with proper panoramic resolution and custom UI scaling.

Sponsored by Latvia and Hasbro, Oblivion is the ultimate Mr. Potato Head simulator, where you can carve your favourite tuber against either chips or fries, mainly coming out from the big frying gates leading to the realm of Oblivion. Anemic main quest, but excellent side quests. The landscapes and dungeons are pretty but repetitive. Big ass modding community, with a bunch of excellent overhauls and big booty mods. No diagonal walking animation.
Expansions:
Various DLCs - Small quests and horse armor. Especially horse armor.
Knights of the Nine - Go forth with the Divines blessing and crush the itty bitty elven menace with Pelinal Whitesupremacist!
Shivering Isles - Sheogorath is looking for a champion, because reasons. Ninininininininininininini
Essential Mods:

Gameplay Mods:
---
Oblivion XP + Update - Changes the leveling up to a more traditional way with experience points, like Fallout without guns. OBSE required.
OR (yeah, that's right, not both)
Realistic Leveling - Want to retain the original leveling without retarded scaling? This mod is for you. OBSE required.

Latest Bethesda's TES title, Skyrim involves the Wyvernkiin slaying a bunch of Wyverns and Stormcloaks with Wyvern Shouts. Short and mediocre main quest, infinite(!!!) (shit) quests and human looking people. Splendid landscapes. Even bigger modding community than Oblivion, including big booty mods. Diagonal animations included.
As of April 27th, 2015, Steam has removed the payment feature from the Skyrim Workshop four days after its announcement.
Expansions:
Dawnguard - Lord Harkon, an ancient vampire, was the guardian of his wife and Serana prior to Molag Bal. He was the cause of vampires everywhere being burnt (himself included), when he placed his daughter Serana with an Elder Scroll into a tomb. Also, crossbows.
Hearthfire - TES meets the Sims. You can adopt children, build your dream house that will end up looking the same as other houses and witness moving mannequins.
Dragonborn - A challenger appears! Hey, you're not the Dragonborn, you're a big fat phony!
Essential mods:
Unofficial Skyrim Patch, Unofficial Hearthfire Patch, Unofficial Dawnguard Patch, Unofficial Dragonborn Patch - Removes a lot of bugs, except spiders.
Skyrim Script Extender - Why is it essential? Skyrim shares Tim Preston's inflation fetish and applies it to RAM, so SKSE implemented the memory patch to counter this issue.

What is the console command to summon an NPC? I'm stuck on the main quest because Delphine and Esbern are a no show at Karthspire, and I don't want to load an old save because I had to fight through 3 dragons and a dozen forsworn simultaneously to get there.
Still no Loverslab link in the OP
For shame...
i'm not gonna post anything witty related to this great victory
except that justice has been served

for a clone/copy: player.placeatme (basedID) (amount)
for the existing NPC in the world: moveto player
^requires you to know their RefID i think
So... is Valve still evil or is that Bethesda? Or are both currently cleared but on probation?
I'm glad the two companies came to their senses before this got really out of hand, but I'm very very extremely disappointed in them for trying/considering this in the first place.
They cashed in on all their good will, and now they're going to have to earn it back.

actually yes
Reposting because dead thread
So my friend just got skyrim for the pc, and I need help explaining to him the advantages and disadvantages of picking between Mod Organizer and Nexus Mod Manager. He's played skyrim on the xbox, so he's not new to it.
Way faster and way cleaner.
MO has profiles.
MO wins.
Reposting because dead thread
MO is pretty complicated if you are new to modding, Nexus is simpler and in my experience most mods work better with it for the moment
I'd say for a beginner to one install a few mods manually, then once you understand how it works, move up to NMM, then once you get how that works, move up to MO
MO allows you to set load orders for files that aren't ESP/ESM. That way, you can, for example, install two texture packs and easily allow one pack to override part of another. It also lets you know what files in mods conflict with one another, or if a mod is completely overwritten by others and is thus redundant.
If you use NMM, you have to keep track of conflicting mods in your head, assuming you even know how they conflict.
The only disadvantage of MO is the additional complexity of using special mods like ASIS or creating your own mods.
So... is Valve still evil or is that Bethesda? Or are both currently cleared but on probation?
Both are just stupid for acting without completely thinking.
Reposting because dead thread
Definitely Mod Organizer, but watch Gopher's tutorial first-- it was a bit daunting for me moving up from NMM.
(I would just recommend NMM, but newer versions have been really really reeeeeeaaaaaallllllly unstable for me, so I can't.)
Updated OP with new images, restored links, and formatting. If there's anything else you guys want me to add, just say so.
How do I get Wrye Bash to work when I use Mod Organizer?
MO has profiles.
MO wins.
MO wins forever because fixing file conflicts and playing with your load order has no overhead of waiting for archives to extract.
Also I only switched over to Mod Organizer yesterday, what a great choice.
I just don't know how to make a bashed patch since all the mods aren't in the Skyrim's Data folder.
How do I get Wrye Bash to work when I use Mod Organizer?
Click on the two cogs in the top left and you get a dialog window where you can add more programs to launch through MO. Wrye Bash has no specific requirements, so you can just give it a name, browse for the executable and click "add".

thanks!
There's something weirdly disconcerting about the fact that Oblivion flawlessly supports 21:9 aspect ratio resolution, just installed it again, and I didn't have to touch anything.
Like this was just plug and play. Normally (even for skyrim) I have to fuck around with memory hacks and .ini configurations to fix hud scaling. How is it that developers have somehow created worse and worse widescreen implementations since 2006 :pwn:
Say hello to that guy
