In development for PC and current-gen consoles, Paladins is rooted in a colorful sci-fi fantasy setting featuring unique champions that have their own fire-function and abilities. Combat in Paladins is also nearly entirely projectile-based, meaning shots can be dodged.
Though each champion has its own personality and core abilities, a movement ability, and a mount -- to get around Paladins' much larger, wide open maps -- the real character variation comes from a deckbuilding card system that augments a champion in different ways.

Not to be an asshole but this honestly looks like HiRez's answer to Overwatch. It even has a similarly designed dwarf. Not that having similar designs or a similar visual style makes a game automatically bad or anything. Heck, I'm just glad that it isn't another fantasy MOBA :v:
I'll give a rat's ass when they finally learn how to maintain a goddamn game and not move from project to project like some adhd fiend.
I will never forget Tribes.
part of the MOBA/Objective based Team shooter hype? joins Overwatch, Gigantic, Battleborn and am guessing lots of other games of this type will come out
Though hopefully this will be good it looks kinda cool

They've been running smite for 3 years, and they are still running it though. They even made an xbox port of it. They have different teams for each one of their games now (in case you didn't know, they've had a small team working on a mobile game for a while now.). Tribes wasn't dropped because they started another project, it was doomed to fail from the very start (Apart from all the well known development fuck ups, they tried bring a "pro players game" to a casual audience while trying to appeal to both sides at the same time. It didn't work.). That is not what happend with their 3rd game. In fact, its very much profitable. (Hell, smite is pretty much the only thing that's kept it and GA's servers online until now.)
I can understand the frustration for what happened and not wanting to support them for being let down, but I'll never be able to understand this complete disregard for facts and logic itself just to maintain nonsensical excuses just to cope with it, and expecting (or worse, Hoping) for every other thing they do to fail as well (though I must give this kind of people some credit for their tenacity. Most would have given up on seeing Smite dead after all these years, but they are still there.).
Now, on topic: I'm not really interested in the game, I'm generally awful at shooters anyways.

tribes didn't fail from the start. it had a burgeoning competitive scene while still being approachable for average players. also it was just plain fun and showed a lot of potential
it died from continued mismanagement and eventually neglect, watch as smite does the same as it moves to a skeleton crew once this comes out
as for this, how can you not expect it to fail? smite was a moderate success but at least it was original (as far as mobas go), how can they possibly hope to contend with blizzard with an outright clone? I mean even if this turns out to be the better game the blizzard banner alone will draw people in and keep them there
games like these become a huge success if the game is balanced and has a really strong competitive scene. games that are strongly competitive bring in the most players because they become far more advertised. this game looks like it doesn't know what it wants to be other than a clone of a game that already beat the punchline
hi rez need to go back to making decent mmos like global agenda and need to stay away from making mild cash-ins that are forgotten after a week

It failed in the "profits" side, which as you well know its the one side that matters the most for any company. And the competitive scene wasn't even that big, specially for the scale they were aiming for.
Smite has been running for 3 years, its profitable, it has a bloody xbox port, its currently having its world championship. It's probably never going to replace League nor DotA, but it doesn't has to. There is absolutely no reasons for them to drop the game, whereas maintaining either GA or Tribes would have been a constant loss.
This is what I reffered to with "complete disregard for facts and logic itself". You are smart enough to know all of this, but you choose not to for the sake of having a "solid" excuse for the way you feel. (That or the other way around: The way you feel clouds your judgement and comes up with nonsense/makes you have selective memory on the matter.)
By the way, I didn't say this would be profitable, I said that expecting every thing they touch to fail miserably by prejudice is jus silly, specially after all these years. You can dislike the games if they don't appeal to you, but don't try to reject everything based on things that have barely any links to them (specially when those things had actual explainations).

10 million players and a partnership with a multi-billion dollar company tencent would beg to differ.
More on topic, I still think they should have tried anything else other then another moba then this.
I just signed up for beta
I don't know why but the "mount" thing really puts me off.
I wonder if they release beta same time as Overwatch

I heard Paladins' beta would be launched 1 or 2 months from now, but it can end up being delayed. They've also been giving out beta codes since the game was announced. I have no idea when Overwatch's beta will begin.
Hype for "Not Overwatch"
[t]http://puu.sh/jtHTp/96d38675ba.jpg[/t]
goblin in a mech, dwarf with a gun, blue tribal people with big horns/tusks, scantily clad ranger woman
gee where have I seen these things before
That's what is so darn off-putting about this game, it looks generic as hell. Smite used actual gods (taking liberties when needed), it wasn't just generic fantasy stuff, which is why it stood out (that and the perspective change, since most MOBAs were top down).
They just announced that the Closed Beta for Paladins will begin on November 17. https://twitter.com/schisam/status/659816513587802112
Alright, here's some info on the game and its beta phase:
Close beta stats today with a limited hours format. Servers will be online between 12 noon until 12 midnight EST / 6 am to 18 pm CET.
You can download the game from here: http://hirez.http.internapcdn.net/hirez/InstallPaladins.exe
Anyone that used an early access code should have got a beta key by now, you use your beta key on the launcher. You need a Hi-Rez account to play. If you don't have access to the beta yet you can register through their official website to be added to their lists, and/or follow official Hi-Rez accounts around the internet for a chance at them doing giveaways. There are 9 characters to choose from with another one coming soon. Each character has a different weapon (and attack) and 3 unique abilities, one of them a movement skill. http://paladins.gamepedia.com/Champions
Each character uses sets of cards that grant them passive bonuses and mods for their skills and weapon attacks, and they also grant you a boost to damage and health, each card having a different dmg and hp bonus (generally, the stronger the card's passive effect, the less stat bonuses the cards will grant and viseversa), because of that you don't get stats every time you level, the stat increase comes from the cards. So far there are no cards that are upgrades of other ones, each one does a different thing than the other. Also imporant to mention that when you die, all of your cards are disabled for X seconds, so dying isn't advisable. Here's all the cards for anyone curious: http://paladins.gamepedia.com/Category:Cards
Characters are all free and will remain free, you don't buy cards with in game currency, cards & card packs are unlocked by winning matches and leveling up your player account. You can't buy anything beyond the Founder's pack, that gives you a mount skin and instant access to the game along with 20 card packs. There are no cosmetics in the game, at least not yet.
Also very important: The devs are focusing on having a game that works, not just a game that is pretty. While several art assets have been changed from what you could see in alpha videos, there is still placeholders in the game and other unfinished visuals.
