Building Games. A few short years ago, they meant a canvas on which to spread your creative mind onto and create environments that you are proud to create, and that others enjoy to view and play. Sadly, that genre has gone the way of the dodo bird. Building games nowadays are considered minecraft-like: that is, a survival game with building elements, prehaps some enemies, etc. Those who dare to revive the genre see their games die, either by lack of updates or through malicious C.E.Os who prematurely shutdown their company and take the profits as their own, then trying the exact same practice months later. What they don't realize is that they have stranded multiple communities who believed in their games, leaving them to wander, looking for a new community to stumble upon. VoxelMaze is different. The initial concept was based on joining these wandering communities, and still is. By obtaining direct feedback from some of the best members from these communities, we have been building a game, and so much more. So, what is VoxelMaze? To put it simply, an advanced level editor based around the concept of creating and sharing levels with your friends. In VoxelMaze's current state, you can create fairly complex levels (even including custom textures) and upload them where other people can play them. Features like Multiplayer, Ratings, Metadata, Mods, and much more are planned, but for now we wish to perfect the editor into a state we are proud to call ready for production. VoxelMaze 0.0.9 is available to download and test, but we'd appreciate it if you'd give feedback on any bugs or missed features. [I] Download: outdated links As metadata is not yet implemented, please do not add spaces to your level name. How would you describe the game to someone who's never heard of atmosphir?
I'll give this a go, I've spent some time with Atmosphir and I quite liked the concept.
How would you describe the game to someone who's never heard of atmosphir?
Imagine Minecraft. Now strip out all of the survival elements, mobs, and terrain. Now add user-generated content out-of-the-box, a level editor in place of worlds, contests, several gamemodes, and some extra spice such as character customization. That's atmosphir, and hopefully soon, VoxelMaze.
You need to make the block menu closable using tab, and have it close when you press test. The movement is too slippery, and something feels odd about mouse controls at the moment, you might need to add a sensitivity slider. Other than that, it definitely has got potential. I'll probably follow the development. Also, post any programming related progress in the programming WAYWO. I'm sure they'll appreciate content, and perhaps they will also have some ideas.
have it close when you press test.
I pretty much patched that once I made this post. I'll also add everything else you've requested.
Testing the level seems to break the game for me
It just freezes if you don't place a "start point" block and try to test the level, or at least it did for me and that's what seemed to fix it. Should have a default starting point block at like (0,0) or something.
The fixes in question are being worked on. I'll even try to add some new content. Most of this was actually my fault, as one of the bugs was fixed right after I made this thread and the others I had already known about. Sorry ):
VoxelMaze 0.0.8 is out! Featuring many bug fixes for the editor and custom blocks! You can now set a custom block texture and place it within the world. Please note, however, that you will experience slower uploads with custom textures and levels with custom textures will also download as slow. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=413320664 I've added VoxelMaze to Greenlight! If there is enough attention I'll go ahead and put it fully on greenlight, so why not take a look?
