The Galactic Republic: A Distant Worlds Universe AAR (Image Heavy)

I got plenty of free time this winter break for the next two weeks, so I figured I might as well do an After Action Report (AAR) on a game I started in Distant Worlds Universe. You basically start on one planet and expand. This AAR will feature lengthy "chapters" as well as many images to help tell the story. I am welcome to all critisism, hell even decisions that people want the empire to take! Some background I am playing in the extended universe theme, using Humans as my race. The research bar is set on about 330k value (about 3/2 regular value so a bit harder), plenty pirates, large galaxy, and 37 other empires are on as well as plenty of independent alien life. We will have a very active galaxy going into mid-late game. Let's begin!

[b]Chapter 1: The Rise of the Galactic Republic[/b]

The year is 2100. Humanity has had a century of continued scientific, political, and social advances. After the end of the Resource Wars of 2020, the people decided to unite in a common goal of survival. The planet of Geykil is the home to 2.791 billion humans, and on May 21st the Galactic Republic was founded. Made up of 195 nations, the Galactic Republic holds the ideals of exploration, expansion, and survival to the highest order. Having sent probes out in 2067 at the height of the second space race, the human population was ready to begin reaching to the stars. The numerous probes were able to provide an accurate picture of the galaxy, the result:

Every single one of those dots is a different system, holding possible alien contact, new technology, the possibilities are endless. Finishing the scientific surveys of our very own planet, it is critical we began to expand into our solar system. We currently have only large production of osalia stones, lead, gold, polymers, chromium, and carbon fiber. We will need to quickly find resource spots for caslon fuel as well as steel, iridium, and other basic requirements for our space systems. Our solar system, officially named the Hoppawoe Minor System, shows promising findings with large gas planets and numerous moons for mining:

The first Head of State of the Galactic Republic is Esari Kesky. Born in the European Union (lets assume it survived this long), Kesky has had a plentiful career militarily and politically. Being sworn in as first head of state at the age of 48, he delivers his speech before the ministries of republic:

"My fellow humans. It has come for the age of man to rise! It has come for the age of space exploration and expansion. Our ministry of research and ministry of production have began the preparations for the very first large, manned space port. We are talking thousands of inhabitants working above our very planet, producing the next generation of space ships to reach for the stars. With your help, we can ensure that our race, the human race, survives on. Thank you and I am honored to be the first Head of State of the Galactic Republic. Carpe diem!"

The Ministry of Production began work on a space port at once. It would serve the launching point of all future space. It would require proper power reactors, defenses, manufacturing yards, and research plants. The result is the very first Medium Space Port of the Galactic Republic:

Construction began at once and the station was completed on 01/28/2101, not even a year later. The combined efforts of all space agencies around the world, and the influx of people signing up to work on the greatest undertaking in human history helped speed the process along:

Construction ships have also been commissioned to prepare to expand mining stations to nearby planets and moons for resource harvesting. The Space Port began production of the very first new generation exploration ships for the Republic. Nicknamed Traveller, they will be the speediest ships in the solar system. Tasked with finding resources on neighboring planets, the hold a resource profile sensor that allows to perform their tasks quickly by surveying planets. They will be dispatched as soon as they are constructed.

Three months later, two Travellers set out among the stars as the first space ships to fly for the Galactic Republic. Kesky published a statement through the Ministry of Communications: " This day marks another historic moment for the Galactic Republic. I am proud to announce that the very first new generation space ship, a Traveller by the name of Weary Trailblazer has been constructed and has set out to the nearest planets to begin surveying for resources. We are ahead of schedule on all of our goals and research. I urge all of those interested in becoming pilots, to sign up!"

The Ministry of Production has also completed the very first plans of a set standard for mining stations. Equipped with 10 mining engines, pulse blasters and missiles for defense, they will become the first bases off world. They will harness the resources of other bodies for the betterment of the Republic. All the hard work of hundreds of thousands of miners, and pilots will further cause of expansion. four months later reports came back that the nearest gas planet had a large supply of both Caslon and Hydrogen, essential to the fuel systems of our current generation of fuel ships. A construction ship was dispatched with equipment immediately to begin the first mining base.

The Ministry of Research published it's yearly findings for all this year. In terms of weapons, a new system of beam lasers, dubbed "Maxos Blasters" are being researched and process is continuing steadily. Beam weapons have short range, and damage fallout, but are advantagous in fire rate as well as penetration. A new system of Cordivian Shields have been produced in labs. As a result, prototypes will be installed for bases and chips. They have a capacity of 100HP, protecting the ships or bases from enemy fire. The next concentration of research will be energy collection for ships and bases. This will allow ships and bases to use the energy collected from the sun rather than fuel on board for powering their systems, greatly increasing efficiency.

On 05/28/2102, exactly two years after the founding of the Galactic Republic, an exploration ship came upon ruins on another planet. Not only is this the first documented case of alien contact, but what the ship found were schematics for a new type of engine. The findings were sent back to the Ministry of Research at once. This ancient knowledge shows promising results for what could be the very first "WarpField Precursors". Such a propulsion system would allow our ships to fly across entire solar systems in mere seconds. Research on decoding the alien technology and a prototype began at once; this would be the largest and hardest research project undertaken in human history.

In the coming months, more alien technology was also discovered, including an alien space ship that when disassembled provided a huge boost to research in all areas. Private traders and freighters took up flight as humanity reached for the moons to mine, and mining stations began to dot the solar system.

Research was also moving at a rapid pace. New sensors to detect other space ships around our solar systems, new advances in mining and weapons, crew systems, medical supports, the list goes on. Three research stations were build in orbit above Geykil to conduct experiments deemed too large and dangerous on the planet itself. The new age of man was advancing, and at a very rapid pace.

A new leader was also elected to the Head of State of the Galactic Republic: Kor Redan. The sudden death of Kesky, resulted in the first change of government seating. Kor Redan was a younger, less experienced leader but he had the courage and power of a tiger. He was an inspiring figure, that sent shivers through you when he gave speeches in front of the entire planet. He will lead the Galactic Republic well.

After 3 more years of intense research the very first Warpfield drives were ready to be tested. Having a max speed of 2000 km/s as opposed to the current 51km/s speed of Travellers, this new engine will allow humanity to spread past our very own solar system. What holds in store for humanity out there? We'll find out.

So what are people's thoughts? Too long? Too short? I left out about another 8 pictures cause I feel like maybe i started dragging a bit. I'm listening to all ideas and even ship designs are welcome. Pretty much everything in this game is customizable. It's a bit slow now getting started, but once you run into aliens, pirates, and expand to different system it picks up very quickly. Not often you see AARs here on Facepunch. Thought it was pretty well done, there were a couple writing errors but that's just clerical. Some of the images were a bit low quality; why not crop out the unnecessary bits from the screenshots before uploading? Would save space as well as key people into what you want them to focus on in the image. For the first update the length was perfectly fine, as it goes on it's going to be up to you to gauge how long updates should be. Plenty of AARs are variable.

Definitely need to make some slave/prison worlds full of political dissidents and criminals working to further the goals of the Republic, that's the only way for an early fledgling [del]Empire[/del] Republic to grow, right?

I remember when people used to occasionally post Hearts of Iron II AARs on here, but that was like around when I first joined.

When Lets Play was meant for actual "Lets Play: X" threads, not server advertisements. I got into GSGs like HoI2 and Distant Worlds because of them, its a sadly unreached medium here on FP.
