Well, firstly this is a very young idea ( Well, I'm thinking about that since 3/4 weeks, but I need other's opinion.) and on top of that ... I'm french . Oh .. And I didn't find the Mod MegaThread, despite all the research I made :v: I'm thinking about making an HalfLife 2 mod (Well using source at least, as BlackMesa) for making this "game". It will be divided in 7 parts, wich one during 1 hour (Logic, nah ?) The game will have to give feelings and emotion. The 7hours war will take place in different ... places, as a chapter in BlackMesa and mostly in New York city (Or everywhere you think is a good fight.) The playable character will be a citizen as another fighting for his liberty. (Or a military . Or both ? We need advice and idea !). We all know that earth get "rekt" during this day, but the game will focus on all hope of human against alien, united in a last sigh ... We are hiring for : -Source (Hammer) Level designer -Source animator -Source prop maker What do you tkink people ? Concept art and some Alpha level images will come soon  We really need advices and ideas that we will be happy to think about ! It's a nice idea, but I have seen so many people post cool ideas for projects and it goes nowhere. How exactly will you be helping the project? Are you the "ideas" guy? Also, are you putting money into this project? Hiring implies that you will pay someone to do those jobs. If you are serious about this, it could be pretty cool because I always loved the idea of seeing what happened during the 7 Hour War. I'll await more information. Good Luck!

Where am I different ? I am working in a game company as a level designer. I mean, I have 20 people behind me who will be ready to help, but I still looking for Awesomly talented people on the internet ! (We found them curiously only here !) For the moment, we are working on some little canvas and trailer to be able to say what are we looking for (I don't know if you understand what I mean.) For the moment it's hard to recruit people with only the 7 Hours War idea . Perhaps a donating system after everything will be set ?! I am happy that you find this project interesting ! Do not hesitate to give feedback ! (Well .. only on the idea for the moment ! :) )
half life 2 mods are a thing of the past. nobody really likes making hl2 mods because the SDK is a joke and the available engine is so dated it's just not worth the payoff. i gave up modding hl2 altogether because it's just not modder friendly at all; especially when there are extremely cheap alternatives that have way better functionality like unity and unreal engine you can try this again but i doubt it'll get anywhere until the half life modding scene gets a reboot when source 2.0 comes out
Wait until Source 2 SDK at least is my minimal suggestion.

You are true from A to Z by the way, and sadly ! But, as a dumb donkey i'll keep trying to make it with this unfriendly source ! Why ? Probably because this engine is all my childhood and we still can make something good with it (AKA : BlackMesa/Stanley Parable). Probably we will not make a HL2 mod as it says; you'll not need HalfLife 2 to play it, only source sdk 2007. Well .. Still in developement and we are accepting any advices on it !
Wait until Source 2 SDK at least is my minimal suggestion.
Well, that's not stupid. "7 hours war" first mod on Source 2 ! I like the idea ! But despite still worrying about all the changes and scared to lose all my level designing "skill" lol .
Idk a donating system after a "little canvas and trailer" seems like just another money grab.
Oh Hell no ! That's my fault, I didn't meant it ! More like after 50% of the work finished ! Dang, I probably scare you ! [editline]27th June 2015[/editline] Well, to say more ! I'm not here to grab players' money but to give them a 7 hours game wich will make them happily cry !
Wait, seven hours in real life or in-game? I could see like how some of this might work. But again, I don't really know if this'll get anywhere.
Wait, seven hours in real life or in-game? I could see like how some of this might work. But again, I don't really know if this'll get anywhere.
IN REAL LIFE, YEAH ! :D That is the point of the game ! The war is during 7 hours ? Well, you'll fight 7 hours ! You'll be in the war ! You'll fight for it ! What do you think about playing a Military guy in blackmesa and a civil one in a city like New york ? During the game you are "jumping" between those ! [editline]27th June 2015[/editline] The military have to escape BlackMesa to finally be send in NewYork to fight those Xenians and synths, when the civil have to escape to survive. After 5 hours during the war, they finally meet. During 10 seconds ? or the last of the game ? (Well, now I am thinking about the plot of the game ! Tell me ideas !)
this is just a garry's mod comic book gone bad
Oh ... you are talking about this comic book ? Ahahaha .. Yea .. I swear we will try to not disappoint you .. AHAhahaha [editline]27th June 2015[/editline] Just to redefine everything for the people who are going to read everything up from this comment : -We want to make a Game ! Not a comic book (Just in case people are confused) -The game will last 7 hours -The game will be free (plus a donating system once the game finished) FOR THE MOMENT : -2 playable characters (Military and Civil)
Dude your english is a bit rough, would gladly read in native french if you keep posting about this project and get the wheels rolling. I think if you post the english translation as well you won't get in trouble. Not a mod though!! I'm afraid there's not much enthusiasm in the community to start a new mod. Which is truly a pity, I like the engine myself and really did find it more user-friendly than the unreal SDK; plus LUA compatibility integrated with Gmod really did it for me. I sincerely hope you get a staff together! A few years ago, before I moved on, I would have enjoyed an ambitious folly like this. The best advice I have is to stick to the mapping & modding subforums; and the easiest way to get started is to dive in and do it all yourself. Everything. No joke; I don't know how experience you actually are but game development is a skillset unto itself - no point in learning to model if you can't animate & texture yourself as well. I hope I don't sound too nihilistic; It's absolutely ridiculous how often threads like this popped up during the peak of the Source engine. I'm getting butterflies of nostalgia in my chest thinking about it, honestly. But out of all those ambitious projects, very few made it to completion.. and I do truly believe that is because the people involved didn't have a fully rounded set of skills or the ambition & drive to sacrifice.. gaming time, social time, work pressures, etc etc. And I think this advice applies to everything. I hope it is helpful! This philosophy of learning to do it all yourself enables you to pursue your passion, and it inspires other people! A shared burden is a light burden :) For old times' sake I'm going to subscribe to this thread. And I'll be very upset if you give up.

You're not a bad mapper. Why a mod tho? Because that way you can use the pre-existing models?
That's actually quite impressive, especially the first one.
how much are you paying your animators, prop makers, and level designers?
You're not a bad mapper. Why a mod tho? Because that way you can use the pre-existing models?
Thank you ! That's the point ! We will be able to use pre-existing models of Half life 2 and BlackMesa . But don't worry, you'll not have to download or buy them because you'll get the models when downloading our game ! :)
That's actually quite impressive, especially the first one.
Ah, my favorite too ! Thank you for the comment :) :)
how much are you paying your animators, prop makers, and level designers?
Well, at the moment I can't say anything. I'll not pay someone for only one month and after that the game got cancelled. Firstly I have to make the core of the team, before being able to say anything about money. :)
If you're making a mod, it's one thing, but if you're making a game you should probably find out if you can even make a game in the half-life universe. i'm sure that's home to tons of copyright infringement issues right there
I'm making a mod as a Stand alone . Well, how to explain it .. Ahem .. Yeah, BlackMesa ? (Again and again !) It's a mod , but you don't even have to buy Half life 2 or anything more, you see ? I hope you understand what I mean, and using this "StandAlone mod" fact, you are clear about the copyright infingrement ! (Only have to put "Valve" everywhere.) [editline]27th June 2015[/editline] Started working this morning with the script writter. So we got : 1 level designer, 1 script writter, and 2 potential level designers ! Don't worry , those textures are Dev textures ! Not the final product ! Ahahah
Black Mesa is a for-profit project though; it costs money to buy. It's not a mod. It's a game. Things like names, locations, logos, etc are under copyright protection. Using them for profit violates that copyright if you were to make a standalone game that costs money to buy like Black Mesa. Mods themselves are a whole other story, but you need to decide on one or the other instead of calling it a mod and then a game It sounds to me like you don't even have a game design document even made and you've got no idea what you're doing. I don't get how this thread is as alive as it is since normally these kinds of things get shut down within a few hours
Well .. as I say from the start, I can't decide everything alone , this is why I need a Team to make choice looking for plus and cons ! You look very pissimistic, are you okay in real life ? Plus : BlackMesa was a mod 2 months ago. And it's still a mod . Plus 2 : This is not because we don't even decide if we make it as a "mod" or a "game" that mean we are not working or worked on it !
It sounds to me like you don't even have a game design document even made and you've got no idea what you're doing. But I still understanding your .. well .. opinion ? [editline]28th June 2015[/editline] So .. You are saying that BlackMesa are violating Valve's copyright ? Well .. they are still here interestingly . [editline]28th June 2015[/editline] You know what ? I'll do everything to make this game happends to show that you are wrong !
Not to be rude, but uh, is that just a single rock model from HL2 turned upside down?
Exactly, the one you see yes , because I was looking for something minimalistic and small. There is a bunch of floating islands that I made alone ( like 5/6 ) but didn't take a screenshot . I can if you want ! ;) (And that's part of a level designer's game ! Make awesome things with a bit ! :) )
