You may have played The Specialists mod back in the day when Half-Life 1 mods were still alive and kicking. Well, they're not really anymore, but it's worth checking out if you've never played. I made a short video trying to revive the classic mod a little bit. It's basically a HL1 mod that combines the Matrix with John Woo movies (Face/Off, Hard Boiled) and people keep saying it's like an early version of "Max Payne 3".

Place it into your common/Half-Life directory where you have Cstrike and other goldsrc engine games. Then, install and run Half-Life 1 once, restart steam, and it will appear in your Steam games library. The only server that's been around forever and has good deathmatch settings is the "Nuke Silo arena" server. Would like to see you all play! It's a pretty badass mod that was one of the most popular HL1 mods. Akimbo weapons, flips, dives, and ridiculousness. I swear there are people who have had this mod installed since day 1 who just watch the server list to see if anyone is playing.

Had this installed for so long, would love to see a revival of it. One of the best HL mods of all time
It'd be nice if people did play again, because the most populated server I've seen in the past 3 months is a kung fu only deathmatch server with the playercount tipping as high as ~EIGHT~
and kung fu only kinda defeats the point of the game

think those ceased to exist but i hear you man. a ton of custom content was created for this but I can't seem to find those old websites
Oddly enough, it had the most robust Sci-Fi roleplaying community I've ever seen. And it was actually GOOD, unlike a lot of the gutter trash you get in GMOD RP.
The base game is hella fun and it was fun to get the huge Model packs for characters, so you'd see a backflipping Hatsune Miku throwing knife a banana right before getting lit up by a Digimon. It was silly.
I used to play this mod so much in highschool.

Specialists is the greatest. I think it was the first thing I tried when I got my widescreen monitor ages ago, oddly enough.
I'm trying to find a video where it was just 20 people in a server rolling around.
I've never actually played this, was more of a sven co-op player myself. Looking forward to trying this out.
I stopped playing after that one update destroyed 90% of the custom player models. I also got way too into the role play servers.
There were about 15 on last night, and it was the best multiplayer gaming I've ever had.
Some guy named Bobama kept saying his name extremely funny-like, I was drunk, doing flips off walls and some other guy was playing super smash brothers remixes over the mic (which the Bobama guy was chiming in with)
Sounds annoying at first, but it was so fucking funny.
Really the community is filled with the best of the slightly older generation of PC FPS players, (ages 25 to 30)

Well stream is over, but there are people still playing.
I loved this mod. Even though it crashed to desktop if I hit the escape button.
If Xanatos does another playsession I'd totes download the game.

I remember playing this. I couldn't join any servers and I was such a dumbshit back then I didn't know how to fix it and just played against bots. A lot. :v:
