As I type this, I can feel my heart chipping away into darkness with humility. What is Kingdom Hearts? According to Final fantasy wiki
Kingdom Hearts is a video game series born as a collaboration between Square Enix (formerly Squaresoft) and Disney. It is an action RPG that includes appearances of characters from the Final Fantasy series and Disney movies, as well as some characters original to the series.
It was three paragraphs, so I did you guys a favor by cutting out the unnecessary part. Yes it is a video game series, featuring final fantasy characters (heavily butchered to the point they don't seem to originate from FF), disney characters (even I think thats quite dumb) and their own original characters. You play as a boy named Sora, gifted with a legendary weapon known as the keyblade (sounds more dumb am i right?) and travel across worlds with your good friends donald and goofy, on your blocky low graphics ship, known as the gummi ship, fighting the forces of darkness, or at least just for some of the games. Keyblade? It's nowhere near a blade, yet it still cuts shit up. It is literally, a giant fancy key, and it only gets fancier. On a serious note, it is a special weapon that is gifted to some people, with it, it can be used against the Heartless and the nobodies effectively (I'll explain later). It can also release the hearts of people, not by tearing them apart, but by stabbing them in the chest (sorry, no blood). The most important feature about the keyblade is that it can seal and open the barriers of worlds, as well as unlocking anything. Examples of keyblades (beats using a gunblade any day) Heartless Yeah, this first, they're cool and they're the main enemy of the series. They are the manifestations of darkness which comes in two forms, "pure blood" and "emblem". These guys travel through corridors of darkness, which are linked to all worlds. Where these guys came from, I'm not explaining, it's quite long. Pure Blood Heartless Pure blood heartless is just pure darkness, and they usual linger in the abundance of darkness. When they are defeated, they just disappear in a puff of darkness Emblem Heartless Unfortunately, crap pictures. Emblem heartless used to be created by artificially swallowing a heart in darkness. Yeah, scientists, they did it. Emblem heartless can create more emblem heartless however, so they're not that limited. They usually take up a shape, similar to the world they inhabit. That concludes heartless, now for nobodies Nobodies These guys are just as cool, sadly, they're not common. When a heart is taken by darkness, the body and soul lives on, as a nobody, only if they have a strong will, but they will be malformed. If they have an even stronger will, they will remain in their human forms. Nobodies, have, no, emotions, but they pretend to have them though, and some are pretty damn good at it. They're more powerful than heartless, thats for sure. Pics below. Now... To the games, in order of release date. Kingdom Hearts Wiki
Kingdom Hearts is the first game in the Kingdom Hearts series. Revolving around a fourteen-year old boy named Sora, it details his adventures after his homeworld is destroyed by sinister creatures known as the Heartless, and his attempts to restore his world and reunite with his friends. In the process, he meets many characters from classic Disney films and a handful from the Final Fantasy video game series. The main theme song for the game is "Simple and Clean", performed by Utada Hikaru.
Yes, this. Gameplay is pretty simple for a Action rpg. You can do magic, summon ugly disney characters, bash shit up and fight menacing heartless. Story line is quite nice and simple. Did I forget to mention you can also wipe the disney villains off the face of the universe. Kingdom hearts: Chain of Memories Wiki... Wait, wiki doesn't explain it too well. Second game in the series, it was originally intended for the game boy advance. Unlike the first game, it had multiplayer... And other stuff. It also featured a new style of playing the game, where you have a deck of cards which depict your attacks. You could stack them to perform "sleights" which special moves you unlock throughout the game. You still fight heartless. Sadly, this game is sort of repetitive. However, it broadens the KH story, with new characters, not from FF or disney. Oh yeah, the story. After killing [sp]Ansem, Master of everything to do with darkness[/sp], Sora, Goofy and Donald are lost in the middle of no where. Suddenly, they find a distorted castle and decided to enter it and when they do, they are greeted by a hooded man telling them cynical stuff like if they venture any further, their memories would chip away... Oh, and that the group may find someone they're looking for, so they went anyway. Not explaining the rest for the sake of spoilers The game was later remade for the PS2, which was much easier than the GBA version and lacked the multiplayer feature. At least they made the final boss a little more interesting Kingdom Hearts 2 WIKI
Kingdom Hearts II is the sequel to Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and like the two previous games, focuses on Sora and his friends continued battle against Darkness. It also offers a number of improvements over the original with many new features, most notably Sora's Drive Form function, an improved camera, and in-battle options called Reaction Commands.
Yeah, they just scrapped away a beautiful system (cards) to make the game a hell load easier. Also because the wiki is so helpful, story!
Kingdom Hearts II begins where Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days left off. Sora and his companions have been asleep for about a year, regaining their memories. When Sora awakens, he eventually arrives in Twilight Town, the place where a mysterious boy, Roxas, lived before he suddenly left. Gaining new clothes and powers, Sora began his journey anew, unaware of the events that have taken place in Chain of Memories. Sora continues his quest by unlocking paths to new worlds, learning of Nobodies and fighting the Heartless, as well as facing the remaining members of the mysterious Organization XIII.
At least the boss fights got a ton awesome. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days Wiki
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (read "Kingdom Hearts Three-Five-Eight Days over Two") is an RPG developed by Square Enix for the Nintendo DS, with aid from h.a.n.d. It focuses on the life of Roxas between the end of Kingdom Hearts and the beginning of Kingdom Hearts II, exploring the time from Roxas's creation until his confrontation with Riku that leads to his placement in the simulated Twilight Town.
Ansem, y u so evil, Roxas could've saved the universe too you know. Now with the story explained, well, just enough so nothing is ruined. For gameplay, you play Roxas, doing missions, like killing heartless, performing recon and special tasks, like killing giant heartless. Abilities, magic and items were now set up in an indescribable panel system. The game also turned magic into a new form item which can be replenished by starting a new mission or by using ether, which isn't helpful. It is similar to KH1, you don't do reaction command, dodge roll, glide and your attacks are not that fast. It also features multiplayer where you can play as any one of the Organization XIII characters, even Manse... I mean Xemnas, and as an additive, play as mickey, donald, goofy, riku and KH1 sora (Imagine xemnas, riku, sora and roxas in one team... Awkward), but you have to unlock them. Kingdom Hearts Coded Possibly the KH game with the lowest budget put in. It originally meant to be for the phone, but unfortunately, no one could play it 'cause you need them fancy japanese phones to play it, luckily, there was a remake for the DS, which was way better. Gameplay: On phone, total shit. On DS, a combo of 358/2 days and Birth by sleep, panel system and commands. Anyways, wiki for story since english version isn't out yet
The game takes place preceding the finale of Kingdom Hearts II and follows the story of Jiminy Cricket, King Mickey, Donald Duck and Goofy in Disney Castle. While organizing the records in Jiminy's journal from his travels with Sora and his friends, Jiminy Cricket's curiosity about the line "Thank Naminé" results in him finding a message that he did not write: "We must return to free them from their torment." To investigate this message, King Mickey digitizes the contents of the journal and goes into the simulated world to investigate; awakening a virtual Data-Sora on the virtual Destiny Islands to carry out the contents of the journal to uncover the identity of "them".
Kingdom Hearts Birth by sleep YES, FINALLY. From the creators of KH:COM, a game nearly as good as KH2. Now for wiki... Nah, I can write this one. The game takes place about a decade before the events of the first kingdom hearts. It follows the story of Terra, Aqua and Rox... Ventus. The game starts as Terra and Aqua, mature adults, prepare for their Mark of mastery exams. Ventus decides to help out. The next day came and the Masters, Eraqus and Xehanort (who is an old man-monkey thing btw) tested Aqua and Terra through vigorous, in which, only one, you could play. For the first trial, you find out Xehanort pulls off a darkness and stuff happens. Skipping some parts for the sake of not spoiling. Eraqus finds out the worlds are being attacked by creatures known as the Unversed (never mentioned them 'cause they were so minor). This is where adventure begins. At least no gummi ships are involved. Birth By Sleep introduces a new system, the command deck, which is like the card system, but the cards reload on their own pace passively and also introduces Shotlock, which was like a limit, except it requires skill rather than the ability to spamming the triangle button. The games takes you across new disney worlds and what hollow bastion used to be. It also fills up a lot of plot holes from the other games. And as an excuse to extend the length of the game, they decided to put 2 incredibly hard optional bosses. Unversed Put under as a sub-category for birth by sleep since thats the only game they'll ever appear in, note that the next part has spoiler because it is a spoiler. [sp]These guys are the negative emotions of Ventus, when Vanitas and Ventus were split apart[/sp]. Their eyes are suppose to express emotion, in fact, their theme was based on emotion. Unlike the heartless, they never act instinctively. Final Mix It's Square enix's way of telling disney that this game belongs to Japan. It basically has more content, like new enemies, extra optional bosses, more mini games and a new area, or 2. It only sells in Japan, so good luck. Upcoming Games Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream, Drop, Distance Not much is known. Judging by videos, it is going to be fast pace. It also seems [sp]Ansem[/sp] and [sp]Mansex[/sp] are making a return. The story is about Yen Sid making Sora, Riku and hopefully Kairi go through the Mark of mastery exam, unfortunately, Yen Sid's exam, which is a shit ton more tedious than Eraqus' exam. For some reason, they appear a year younger. It going to be released on 3DS. Where can square go possibly wrong with this. Kingdom Hearts Birthy by Sleep volume 2 I honestly I have no clue on this. It's just a rumour that has been around for a while. If it is true, I believe you'd be playing King Mickey, screwing with Ansem and Xehanort, and then fighting Heartless, then some how ending up in the world of darkness. Discuss.
Kingdom Hearts: Forever
This thread is best thread.
Isn't there already a KH thread?
Kingdom Hearts is one of the biggest cornerstones in my gaming history. I love it so much
Isn't there already a KH thread?
It died a while ago. I'm currently playing through Kingdom Hearts 1, again, after having completed Birth By Sleep.
where the fuck is #3 fuck the shitty spinoffs of the portable systems just give me the fucking 3rd game seriously what the shit
where the fuck is #3 fuck the shitty spinoffs of the portable systems just give me the fucking 3rd game seriously what the shit
For me, Re: coded is fucking amazing and it's 2x better than 358/2 Days. Seriously, I don't mind if they are spinoffs, I just want more cool KH games. And where does the Pure Blood Heartless come from? I have never seen it.
I only played KH1 and KH2, I can't play the crappy spin offs on Handhelds. I remember dieing countless times to Sephiroth on both games.
Birth By Sleep was a good playthrough, but I'm drawing the line at Re: coded. Granted it may be a good game, but with KH 3DS coming out later I'm really fucking sick of these portable spin-offs. And 358/2 Days was an outright disgrace to the series. Does anybody else remember 5 years ago after finishing KH2 when you were all like "Yeah, I can't wait for the next awesome main game." ...Yeah, well here we are. KH3 probably wont even be out by 2013. [editline]25th January 2011[/editline]
And where does the Pure Blood Heartless come from? I have never seen it.
<------- Ahem... The shadows and neoshadows are "Pureblood." Anything that doesn't have the heartless insignia on it is pureblood basically.
And where does the Pure Blood Heartless come from? I have never seen it.
If you haven't seen pureblood heartless then you're blind, because Shadows are pureblood, and they're the first enemies you meet in the first game. :v:
OP should probably at least note KH3D and BBS vol 2
I REALLY liked KH, but never bought it! Rented it and enjoyed it, but for whatever reason never bought it. But, my friend did and I commonly watched him play and played myself every once and a while. Brings back fun memories. Such a cool concept for a game as well.
I fucking love KH1/2. I wish i still had a working PS2 :smith:
I've been trying to find a cheap PS2 somewhere so I can replay these games. They were badass.
I remember walking to the mall when it first opened at like 8am to pickup my preorder of KH2. That was an awesome day XD
Aaaaah what the fuck. Japan got BBS: Final Mix last Thursday. I'm so jealous, I want the final mixes of the games too. :saddowns:
If you haven't seen pureblood heartless then you're blind, because Shadows are pureblood, and they're the first enemies you meet in the first game. :v:
He probably just didnt know they where called purebloods, which i really didnt either.
I remember walking to the mall when it first opened at like 8am to pickup my preorder of KH2. That was an awesome day XD
And then not sleeping until it was finished ;)
I was going to finish the OP. Btw, I am glad I have played the original KH2:FM, along with KH Re:COM that came with it. Having japanese friends is awesome.
I still have both, along with their manuals, along with a PS2. All of it works. Definitely one of my favorite games of all time.
i hate myself for not alloting myself a month during summer break to sit down and actually start KH1, and obviously continue to KH2
I hate these games. The gameplay is fun for about five seconds until it boils down to "spam magic, swing sword now and then", and oh god the story. It's like they sat all the angsty teenagers in the world down at a typewriter and told them to write a crossover fanfic involving Square-Enix characters and Disney. And I played all the damn way through KH 1 and 2 so I'm not basing my postulations off of YouTube videos, before someone asks.
Finished OP.
I played 1,2, and Chain of memories and it was GREAT, but that was a while ago and one day I was like hey what was the story again? So I looked it up on the internet and was like fuck how high must I have been to understand what was going on in those games...
They should make the third game already.
Is it bad that I spent most of the Luxord fight in KHII as a die and defeated him as a card?
And I played all the damn way through KH 1 and 2 so I'm not basing my postulations off of YouTube videos, before someone asks.
Did you beat Sephiroth? On Proud at least?
I've been trying to find a cheap PS2 somewhere so I can replay these games. They were badass.
I grabbed a PS2 Slim a few months back for the same reason. Replaying old greats.
Did you beat Sephiroth? On Proud at least?
Sephiroth in both games, but probably just on normal. (It's been a few years, I don't remember exactly which difficulty.) He's just an optional boss anyways, I can tell when a game is awful without doing all the sidequests.
