Obduction is an all-new, real-time, first-person adventure that harkens back to the spirit of Cyan’s earlier games Myst and Riven. Obduction resurrects that incredible feeling of suddenly finding yourself in the middle of a new world to explore, discover, solve, and become part of.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the launch of Myst, one of the best-selling computer games in history. The Myst name is widely recognized as uniquely defining a new kind of gaming - amazingly immersive worlds where the point is to understand your environment rather than test your reflexes. The Obduction project will take what Cyan knows about creating deeply immersive worlds and apply it to an entirely new game with fantastic scenery, incredible architecture, compelling story, and exceptional challenges.
Obduction will be built with the same framework that made Cyan's earlier games such a wonderful experience: stunning landscapes, deep storyline, engaging characters, dramatic soundscapes, and challenging yet intuitive puzzles. Obduction is an entirely new property, delivered using one of the most powerful game development technologies available today. Obduction is an adventure game for the new millennium that stays true to the concepts that made the genre great.
At the base funding level, Obduction will be developed for both Windows and MacOS, with a targeted release of mid-to-late 2015.
The game is being designed with a flexible scope in mind, so that as the budget grows, the game grows. More places; more puzzles; more mystery; more complexity; more adventure!
This is like a dream come true. I've been waiting for Cyan to make a new non-mobile game.
A new real game by Cyan? holy shit I wasn't ready.
Ah, I remember the old days of Myst and Riven; a classic point-and-click series if ever I saw one. I always enjoyed seeing all those crazy cool Ages like Channelwood and that one observatory Age.
It's been a loooong time since Myst V, and that ventured into full 3D unlike the previous games, which were in the pre-rendered 3D style accompanied by greenscreened real-world actors. Kind of a unique graphics style back in the day if you ask me, even though I much prefer exploring a full 3D environment like what Myst V offered. Regardless, it's good to see the Miller Bros back in business.
Kickstarter is about $51k and counting as of 2 past 6 (18:02 GMT) this evening, with 900 backers; on average that's about $56 per backer, and it shows that four people have chosen the $850 options, with two grabbing "Become the Artist" and two grabbing "Egg-sibitionist". Looks promising so far; hopefully they can build this into something great.
Since it's on topic with Myst games, I think I was the only one who really likes the atmosphere of Myst IV. I'd play it again if I just had it in german.
$153k already; there's definitely support for this title it seems.
Already up at $400k, clearly people are starved for Myst like adventure games.
I for one am going to pledge the shit out of this the moment I can afford to.
17 days to go; nearly $660K. Seems to be moving alright; hopefully the goal will indeed be reached by mid-November. I'll probably pledge a few quid once my money comes through.

There seems to be a bit of an ARG going on, too. Haven't been following it yet, but I'll look into it.

I'd put my money forward, but for some reason it won't accept my debit card through Amazon Payments. I dunno if it's the format or what, but I can't give them my money for some odd reason.
Would it be worth $25 to support this game?
So this is out now. And it looks amazing. Top reviews.

Starlight and Hoodoo both have multiple bans from rating spam. Best to ignore it and move on.
Really enjoying this. Everything from the overlying scenario/plot, to the scenery, to the audio. You can tell they put a lot of care into this. It's a Cyan game through and through.
Ok I don't really wanna read what anyone has posted here because I am avoiding Obduction spoilers on the internet as hard as I can. But holy heck
I grew up with Myst and Riven and holy. Hecking. Heck.
It is beautiful and I love it and I can't wait until I finish it (given my track record I probably won't tbh, never finished Riven or Myst without cheating - though I was like 12 when I played them) and then I will meet someone who has also finished it and I will marry them and we will spend the rest of our lives talking about this game.
idk it's mostly the nostalgia probably but also this game has some cheek. Does some things that just go full on Nelson "Haw-haw!" At you and makes you grumpy and then laugh at yourself for being stupid.
Ok. I am done. Literally came back on Facepunch to rant about this.
