What is JanusVR?
"JanusVR is a decentralized, 3D web browser that allows people to explore, collaborate and socialize in a shared universe. Every room is written in a markup language similar to HTML, and can be placed in any file on any server. With Janus, you're in control, and have the ability to fabricate entirely new experiences with existing web technologies."
Also it has full Oculus Rift support. But it's not required. With this said, anyone can create their own in-game world using hosted .obj files, materials and textures, and a server to host the webpage on. You can even use your own custom models for an avatar if they are accessible online. Usage of 2D browser elements ingame are also multiplayer, depending on whether or not anyone is currently in the same world. Some webpages even utilize javascript in ways to make actual gameplay around worlds, or host NES emulators on little in-game televisions. A full list of controls should be available at the lobby, when you join. Also check out some of the links available in the lobby, they offer a great means of exploring through some of the worlds people have made. Get out there and explore! first image strikes me well i can't believe i've not used any kind of portal demo with my DK2
The first image is actually known as the "Usagii Dot Matrix", it's a big lounge with a dance floor, links to several worlds based off of video games, and a very well-detailed skybox. It has a link directly in the spawn lobby, I believe.
How do I upload a custom avatar? Edit: Figured it out. Have to sign up to http://beta.vrsites.com/ Now I just need to find a custom avatar to use...
The first image and the portals make it look like the internet from Futurama.
The first image and the portals make it look like the internet from Futurama.
This is actually one of the images google gives you if you search "JanusVR"
with oculus rift support and the knowledge of what worlds.com is now, this shit's going to be terrifying in five to ten years.
Wow, this looks great. I'd love to customize my crappy website with it.
Someone made a portal to facepunch in the main lobby. No idea who it was because they hadn't changed their name.
You can change your name by typing
#userid 'name'
in the console, or the tab in the escape menu titled, "Avatar". Also you can bring up the chat by hitting C.

This doesn't detect my DK2.

whoops
Is there an area for getting avatars? Also can you just make a horrid mishmash of different things as your avatar? The OP also could use some more info, it's a bit confusing on how to set everything up. Oh yeah, we should get a Facepunch world too.

It's been a while since I first started playing JanusVR, so I might not entirely know how hard it is as a newcomer. but maybe I could include some info on how to change your name, and maybe how to mess with your avatar? You can get new avatars in the same style of the chibi avatars you start with, over on the VRsites area. But I myself have actually thrown together an avatar store in the style of a large mall, in which people can edit it to throw their own 'shop' in one of 32 other empty shops. You can find it here: http://usagii.net/wikiverse/8chan_mall(Metaverse) I might be able to make you guys a facepunch world. I've made this mall, a replica of the first scene in E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy, and a replica of Space Station 13, Just tell me what you want in the facepunch world I could also host it on the wikiverse so that anybody here could add their own links and stuff. Here's an image of my avatar store:

I wonder if Vinny knows about this yet? We all remember the weird wonders he experienced in Worlds, and even if JanusVR may be tamer than the surreality of the Worlds community, there's still potential for some weird cool stuff in this game.

Most of the time he checks out games that are suggested to him, and if he thinks they're interesting enough he'll consider streaming them.

So this works 100% fine even if you have no VR set?
I can't imagine what this would do to my eyes if I tried to view it through my DK1
So this works 100% fine even if you have no VR set?
I don't know about "100% fine", but yeah it works without a VR set. Also, do we have a place for FP members to meet up? It says there's lots of people playing, but I have no idea where to find anyone.
I'm looking around, can't find anyone. This is really eerie. Still pretty cool though.
Anyone got a mirror? The download page seems to be overloaded.

This reminds me a lot of early-2000's 'the world of tommorow' visions. Looks interesting though.
Already found a "Hentai Museum" and a rather detailed NSFW avatar. This program is going places.
This thing crashes a ton.
