Although Fallout 4 is still new to the playing field. Skyrim is a true and tried concept with thousands of hours of replayablity, or replay value, only limited by the players creativity, even in it's unmodified form.
With the release of Fallout 4 everyone is still making their ways through the games story mode and world environment. So the final verdict among the masses has yet to be made about F:04.
Comparatively the past Bethesda products; Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, in my opinion have not aged very well and simply don't hold a torch to the complexity, visceral immersiveness. and replayability of Skyrim.
So let's discuss on which is the "better" game. Possibly by collectively defining a criteria to judge the two games in arguably the same league.

welp lets close the thread and wait for everyone to finish the game and come to a conclusion then

Looks like this thread wont be open for years or centuries
They are completely different games, only thing really in common is they're from the same company and are open world.
Skyrim was a better RPG (Though that's not really saying much)

i think we all know what this thread really should have been about
dark souls VS undertale
Thread makes the fallacy argument that Skyrim was a good RPG to compare FO4 to to begin with. Why not compare FO4 to Morrowind or Oblivion or Fallout 3 or New Vegas. Comparing FO4 to Skyrim is completely arbitrary because Skyrim and FO4 are completely different games with emphasis on separate gameplay mechanics and completely differing levels of importance placed in traditional roleplaying and player creativity, and it's not exactly like either games are pinnacles of either concepts.
Only thing the two have in common is that they're open world "RPGs" and made by Bethesda.
well you guys knocked my asshole loose before i had a chance to squeeze me wee little buttcheeks tight

Although I will argue the purpose of this thread was to define criteria to judge both of the games in their quality.

Ha
They're both streamlined RPG's with a lot more push to appeal to masses rather than your hardcore roleplayer. That said, it's very hard for me to play New Vegas or Skyrim because of how spoiled Fallout 4's fluidity made me
The better RPG? What? They completely gutted the RPG mechanics in Skyrim, it doesn't even have attributes for fucks sake, literally the only thing Skyrim did was in terms of RPG mechanics is leveling skills up by using them, that shit is so much more reasonable and intuitive than spending arbitary points on skills every time you level up.
In terms of roleplaying a character Skyrim is also absolute dog shit, you're forced into being ~the dragonborn~ which seriously limits what you can do outside of roleplaying a deity.
And Fallout 4 is even worse as an RPG because Bethesda gives you a premade fleshed out character to play as whereas in Skyrim all your given is "You're the dragonborn"
Hence why said saying Skyrim was the better RPG wasn't saying much.
This thread should be about FO4 to Morrowind or New Vegas if we want to compare how they are as RPGs.
Shit I wouldn't mind debating Morrowind vs New Vegas instead of which extremely streamlined game is more "complex"
The fallout 4 characters are sure as fuck not fleshed out to the point where you cant roleplay wtf. All we know about nate is that he was a veteran. All we know about nora is that at one point she practiced law

True, but it's far less practical to roleplay as Nora as a Int 1 barbarian Amazon or with Nate as a wimpy non-athletic egg-head. Not saying that's a huge let down, but given what we know, the two just wouldn't make much sense.
I enjoy fallout 4.I just can't wait for the fallout creation kit for modding :p

What Nate was doing in the army is left unknown. What Nora was doing before and after the law degree is unknown.
Also at this point I wouldn't be surprised if Nora being a lawyer while still potentially being a huge beefy melee-only barbarian was a reference to she-hulk.

And one doesn't go through 8 years of law school to throw it away to not use; and one doesn't get into law school at any level or institute without having a minimal Int of 7. Politicians aside.

So roleplay a brain injury from cryogenics.
Or roleplay that that lawyer thing never happened because it's never brought up again.

Someone make a mod where the law degree is changed to look like a kid drew it with crayon or something. Complete with backwards letters.

I'm sure an engineer expected to mantain Power Armor would eventually get to know how to use it after a certain time working with it. Know your environment and such
On a fundamental level you could say skyrim is better based simply on the dialogue. Not because its particularly good, but because only half of the conversation ever had to be voiced.
In FO4 both sides of the conversations are voiced, thus doubling the work that needed to be done for all quests and conversations more complicated than "go here, kill this." which in turn limited how much extra stuff could be put in.
Which is a shame I think, since it will be really hard to make story mods for FO4 with the Player always being silent or re-using other dialogue.

I hope they go back to unvoiced for the next Elder Scrolls, because it was a really shitty choice for Fallout. Admittedly, Fallout has generally always given you a little more of a backstory than the Elder Scrolls games, and I was fine with that, but for fucks sake I didn't want a set personality and predetermined thoughts like "SHAUN IS ONLY A YEAR OLD" when you were fucking obviously refrozen.
I feel like I'm playing a Mass Effect game in the Fallout universe. And while that is okay in terms of a game, it's not the kind of RPG I want from Bethesda. So frankly, I'm going to go Skyrim>Fallout here.
i didn't mind playing as post-nuclear shephard :v:

That was exactly my concern when I heard they had voiced characters. I loved the idea for a playthrough, beyond that; I want an option to remove the voiced characters and go with the old-style dialogue. Here's hoping mods can do that in the future to help with that 4th wall.
