The developers of LoL classify it in a new genre entirely, as a MOBA or "Multiplayer Online Battle Arena". You start the game at level one, with a small amount of gold, and no items. As you play, you receive experience and gold. This allows you to level up and purchase items, which increases both the power of your champions abilities, as well as their core stats. The main goal of every match is to destroy the opposing team's "Nexus", a structure found at the heart of their base. To get there, you must first fight your way past hordes of computer controlled monsters, also known as minions, which continuously spawn from the enemy base. The base itself is protected by structures called turrets, which also must be destroyed. Whichever team destroys the other team's Nexus first, wins the game. It's truly a team oriented game, and you need to work together to succeed. Why should I play League of Legends over DotA? *New, original champions released every few months *Account-level progression, adding out-of-game strategic depth and customization, known as the summoner system. This includes Runes and Masteries *Champions with outdated skillsets or visuals receive gameplay and visual reworks to better fit in with the game *Built-in surrender functionality *Multiple maps and gamemodes, one of them being 3v3 and the other three 5v5 *Special gamemodes released every once in a while, with rules such as 6 players per team, 80% cooldown on spells or 5 of the same champion *Teambuilder - enter the queue with a champion and role already selected, or build your own team by choosing players from the teambuilder queue *Item sets that let you change the recommended items for each champion before getting in the game *Easier to pick up and learn Game Mechanics: Summoner Spells You are allowed the use of two Summoner Spells in any match of League of Legends. You can choose from a large variety prior to the start of a game. They are all unique, and can easily alter the game in your favor if you use them correctly. Masteries You can put up to 30 points, which are gained upon leveling up, into three categories of masteries - offense, defense, and utility. Some of the more advanced masteries require investment in lesser masteries. Summoner masteries are not set in stone; depending on the champion that you want to play, they may be changed to better suit your needs. You can even set them while selecting your champion before a match begins, so if your favorite champion is taken, you can change your masteries to better suit another. Runes Before queuing for a match, you can make use of "Runes" to increase your champion's power. There are four types of Runes that you can use: glyphs, marks, seals, and quintessences. Before a match begins, you can choose from one of up to nine different rune configurations you have previously set in your Runebook. This allows for maximum flexibility in choosing a Runebook that is best suited for whatever champion end up using. You CANNOT change these while selecting your champion, so choose wisely before entering the queue. Even if you are unsure of how you want to build your champion, you should always select a rune page before entering the game. Runes can only benefit your character, and are never detrimental. All the champions! Every champion has a role to play. Here's the general archetypes of champions found within the game: Assassin: These champions specialize in taking out other champions. They are usually pretty frail, but make up for this in increased mobility with blinks, teleports, jumps, and even stealth abilities. These champions (a la their namesake) get into the action, burst down an enemy, and walk right out. Tank: They have the most health, the most armor, and the most magic resistance. These are the champions that initiate team fights and soak all the damage. They don't generally get as many kills as other champions, but they are great at getting assists. Some of them can force champions into attacking them, some of them can stun, while others have forms of "crowd control" that affect the entire enemy team. Marksman (Attack Damage Carry/AD Carry/ADC): These champions are ranged and specialize in dealing damage damage consecutively. They are usually found behind the tanks and rely on attack damage, attack speed and armor penetration. Ability Power Carry (AP carry/APC): AP Carries deal extreme amounts of magic damage, either in short bursts or constant poking. They rely on Ability Power and Magic Penetration items, and usually depend on cooldowns moreso than other types of champions. Support: These are the champions that help the team in other ways besides kills. There are many different types of support, some of them stun and disperse the enemy team or lock down single targets, some have auras and heals, and some work best when protecting your team's damage dealers. Q: Is it difficult to unlock champions? Not really. For one thing, Riot selects ten new champions every week. For that week, the champions they selected are free to play. However, if you want to purchase a champion forever, you can use the Influence Points you earn while playing the game. Champions cost various amounts of IP, from 450 IP all the way up to 6300 IP. Winning a game, on average, nets you around 80-120IP. If it's your first win of the day, it's usually around 250 IP. Losing games even nets you around 60 IP. The free champions give you a taste, whilst IP is primarily used to unlock the champions you really liked when they were free. Q: My friend and I want to play in the same game. Can we? Of course! If you're new, you might want to stick with the practice mode before you move onto the normal or ranked mode. People in the normal and ranked modes know what they are doing, especially the players in the ranked mode. You and your friend can practice against bots and get a feel of the game itself in practice mode. The only catch is you have to be on the same server as your friends. Most people will want to either play on the North America, EU West and EU Nordic & East servers. If you're Australian play on the North American server. There are other servers that are exclusive to specific countries like Korea, China, Turkey and Singapore. Q: I'm amazing at DotA and everything else DotA related, why should I bother? Riot is passionate about the competitive scene in LoL. They hold sponsored tournaments all year long which build up into a grand finals ladder. The prizes of these tournaments are nothing to scoff at. If you have the ability to play well then competing in LoL could be for you. Q: I'm signed up. Now what? *Start off with the tutorial! It will teach you the basic controls, game play mechanics, and the objectives of the game. *Once you have a good handle on that, start a practice game and add bots. Practice mode allows you to explore the map and try out new champion,s without having to worry about playing well. The Bots aren't very difficult to beat, so don't expect them to be on par with actual players. *The Co-op vs. AI mode puts you against harder bots with a team of real players. Great way to practice working together with others. *Look up character guides on solomid.net or ask us here. We can, usually, give good advice for any champion. *When you feel like you're ready, join a Normal Game with solo queue! That banner is so outdated now lol
The op has been outdated for like 2 years dont be LAZY
i'd make a new one but i don't know shit about the competitive scene anymore so i don't think it'd be up to the crazy wacky standards of the old one
really like the dota section and how it brought up amazing features that leauge has like; A UI A minimap Its free like every moba updates
oh i thought you were talking about the banner as well but yeah the op might need some updating didn't even see that chart with outdated as fuck jungle respawn timers/smite damage
Theres something I would love to see in LoL which dota has, like the ability to tell people how long your ult has left on its CD! man I do love me some Communication! Well I mean in the sense that dota has it where I can just alt click my ability and it will let the team know!
banner updated, now featuring your favorite 2010 memes

League needs to be put out of it's misery to be honest
First game of the day, jungler afks entire game, 4v5 against Xerath, Shaco, Morde, Pantheon and Blitz, and I'm playing an adc. Fuck this game honestly, I would understand losing the game, mmr and lp if it's my own fault but if it's someone else's, it's pretty unfair.

Sometimes shit happens. Push through mang, just push through and hope for the best. I'd recommend duo'ing when you want to feel safe in ranked, though. Changes the chance of someone leaving from 4 to 3 at least so yea.
My god Graves is amazing, especially against those pesky Vayne players who wants to get close to you. Just Q them right in the face and they'll shut right up
Just fucking played against a Jinx scripting in an ARAM. Seriously? Or how about twisted treelike with leveling bots running into towers. So much fun.
yo Zukriuchen i thought you hated league, i'm surprised you're the thread op
yo Zukriuchen i thought you hated league, i'm surprised you're the thread op
????? [editline]30th September 2015[/editline] ive been posting in this thread for like 4 years how did you get that impression
i rememeber you were like 24/7 bashing riot and saying how dota did it right etc [editline]30th September 2015[/editline] interesting how league is as popular as ever but this thread is ded
i still bash riot. dota is better in a lot of techcnical aspects (but then again why wouldn't it be, valve has been on the market for almost 20 years while riot has developed a single game) and riot has made some pretty scummy decisions, but what can i say, i enjoy this game a lot more
that's interesting but i accept your answer and to a degree understand your perspective [editline]30th September 2015[/editline] e.g their reasons for no sandbox is dumb as fuck but i also don't see anything wrong with banning toxic players and trying to remove assholes
they're not terrible, even if i dislike things like the rune system, overpriced skins and champions and the fact we still have only 6 bans after so many seasons, there's still a lot of stuff they do right. for example, and maybe that's just me, but during the time i was trying to get into dota, riot seemed a lot more in touch with the community than valve
I've never seen this little hype for worlds before. It starts tomorrow and nobody seem to care lol. I don't even know if I'll bother following it.
it's tomorrow? thought it was later this week. I garen-tee they're never gonna top Warriors. [editline]1st October 2015[/editline] also yeah i can't remember the last time i played league. Besides odd games I probably haven't played it properly since 2013 but I never unsubbed from the subreddit nor unfollowed Moobeat on Twitter so I still get a lot of LoL news. Sometimes catch Doublelift on Twitch too as he is in Korea. I'm curious what Dyrus has to say when he retires. [vid]http://puu.sh/ktzg9/fdc26f3e77.webm[/vid]
http://www.surrenderat20.net/2015/09/930-pbe-update.html So since the thread is dead how about some PBE. Riven is now a literal edgemaster and some Darius nerfs and Mundo buffs.
Uh, my experience with League in past few days has been pretty bad, in fact, it's not even the game at fault, but the players...for example situations where team recalls right before hitting nexus and we got ace, the consistency in games being thrown at the moment is disgusting, it's really, really hard, not to get pretty mad, I'm not angry for losing, just why would anyone throw it away and prolong the game, and tilt the odds, this kind of behaviour is what breeds toxicity.
