PILLARS OF ETERNITY Release date: March 26, 2015 Pillars of Eternity is an isometric, party-based RPG set in a new fantasy world developed by Obsidian Entertainment. Paying homage to the great Infinity Engine games of years past: Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. Pillars of Eternity aims to recapture the magic, imagination, depth, and nostalgia of classic RPGs. Eternity will take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldu's Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment. This looks interesting and i'll probably pick it up but boy howdy am i tired of hearing stuff like "recapturing the magic of X CRPG." It's like the catch-phrase of every single isometric RPG that comes out.
At least this has Obsidian Entertainment behind in, so you can bet your ass it's gonna be good.
A little wary of this seeing as it seems to be trying really hard to draw on successful games in the past. I'll wait until it's out and initial hype has died down.
I have complete faith in Obsidian. I've loved all their games and I'm very glad I backed this kickstarter. The cherry on the cake is that it releases on my birthday and I have the day off! It's going to be good.
is this similar to divinity original sin
Here's a recent stream that J.E. Sawyer did. One worry I have right now is the sound. There really isn't a whole lot going on in the way of music, ambiance, and combat sounds. Maybe that's just stuff that is getting added the closer we get to release.
whoa just read that this game got like 5 millions $ in funding it better be good lol
$5 million isn't that much for game development. The game did get picked up by a publisher so hopefully that netted them enough money to do all they want with the game.

Also Divinity: Original Sin which is an awesome game got "only" like a million so imagine 5 million dollars
This will be the greatest RPG of the decade.

The right people can do wonders with just a little money but AAA devs fuck up constantly with tens of millions.
is the royal edition worth it
is the royal edition worth it
The extra goodies seem nice but not an extra $45 nice.
whats in the royal edition
All the royal stuff is listed here. http://www.gog.com/game/pillars_of_eternity_royal_edition
is it better to buy it on steam or gog
Gog because you'll get a completely drm free copy. Aside from that it just comes down to who you'd rather support, Valve or CD Projekt.
Can't wait for this
ok thanks for feedback, got it on gog :)
hey so how does patching work on GoG I heard its not the same like on Steam?
hey so how does patching work on GoG I heard its not the same like on Steam?
Usually the games will have a launcher that will do the patching. GOG are also making their own client that will be similar to steam so we'll get auto patching for every game when that comes out.
Hyped as hell. Backed it when they first announced it.
hey so how does patching work on GoG I heard its not the same like on Steam?
You just go to your gog library when a patch comes out and there will usually be a patch there. It will look like this (depending on if you are using the gog downloader or not):
Hyped as hell. Backed it when they first announced it.
at what level? did you play the backer beta, how is it?
As tempting Beta is, it's just better to wait until full game is up. One of my favorite things in this game is that it doesn't reward you any XP for killing. I always wanted this in other RPG games too and thankfully Sawyer had the balls to do it. I mean.. when you play for example Fallout 3 or New Vegas. You just want to kill bunch of bad guys just so you can get some XP and perhaps some crappy loot. Now imagine if you didn't get any XP for killing. Your play-style would change drastically. I always find getting XP for finding locations, using your skills, finishing quests and etc. a better system.

Not getting XP for killing enemies is annoying when you're really fighing through hordes of them. It also makes XP feel a lot more finite if you're only getting it through quests. Of course, it's usually finite, but it feels all the more apparent when you take out a huge chunk of XP gain that way.

Stealth games actually do that pretty well, where you might gain XP/score for KO-ing people, but you get enough to at least cancel it out, if not more, for finding a way to avoid them altogether. That way everyone wins.
