Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 Multiplayer!
OpenRCT2 is an open-source re-implementation of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 (RCT2). The gameplay revolves around building and maintaining an amusement park containing attractions, shops and facilities. The player must try to make a profit and maintain a good park reputation whilst keeping the guests happy. OpenRCT2 allows for both scenario and sandbox play. Scenarios require the player to complete a certain objective in a set time limit whilst sandbox allows the player to build a more flexible park with optionally no restrictions or finance.
RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 was originally written by Chris Sawyer in x86 assembly and is the sequel to RollerCoaster Tycoon. The engine was based on Transport Tycoon, an older game which also has an equivalent open-source project, OpenTTD. OpenRCT2 attempts to provide everything from RCT2 as well as many improvements and additional features, some of these include support for modern platforms, an improved interface, improved guest and staff AI, more editing tools, increased limits, and cooperative multiplayer. It also re-introduces mechanics from RollerCoaster Tycoon that were not present in RollerCoaster Tycoon 2. Some of those include; mountain tool in-game, the "have fun" objective, launched coasters (not passing-through the station) and several buttons on the toolbar.
Downloading the game
You need a retail or steam copy of Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 to play OpenRCT2. The server is running 0.0.5-12 as of now meaning that the latest version should work fine.

The game is prone to crashing on some systems. Try a slightly newer or older version if your version crashes a lot.

Griefers will of-course be banned, as of right now money should be disabled and I'm considering re-enabling it once the park has a certain size. Map is backed up every 5 minutes.
Oh man I've always wanted this, and screw anyone that said it was pointless.
I remember seeing Joel from Vinesauce stream this. It looks fun as fuck.
i remember my friend making a 1 or 2 track long coaster that was power launched, and it did nothing but go up about 5 feet and fall right back to the station. somehow it was one of the most popular and most money making rides any of us made in our park

i also made an auschwitz that had a train ride into it and guests could never get back out, complete with barracks and security fences
I forgot how much fun this game was

are there any open source graphic packs like there are for openttd? or is that why you need a retail version of the game?

People used to build those things all the time back on my old server, but then that the train exit was at a pool of water and they would all drown

That's most likely why you need a retail version, that and some part of the game mechanics/engines might also not have been reverse engineered yet, so it piggybacks on the originals of those.

Yeah, OpenRCT is supposed to be a full rewrite in C++ but for now it still calls some asm straight from the original rct2.exe for the parts that haven't been ported yet.
I've played this with Ta16

I gave it a go and build an area dedicated to Courage the Cowardly Dog, but I suck at retro gaming and y'all building so fancy stuff :frown:
Before my hard drive corrupted me and my friend would play through hamachi.
Good times watching our customers die in a horrible flame when we plunged them into the ground at maximum speed.

Also not on good terms with a slightly old build of VLC.

Which is the first video it has trouble playing for me.

Even Win7 can't make a 'thumbnail' of it like it can with usual MP4 files.

Works with SMplayer for Windows, but I can see that the player is creaking at the seams while playing it, while MPC-HC does a fine job.
Think I'll swing by in a bit, sounds fun.
Jezus you people are creative :v: I can't even properly build a rollercoaster that doesn't get stuck
I'm too much of a pussy to build because it feels like I'd just ruin the map.
Went on before and nobody was there. :(
I get disconnected - no data when trying to connect
I think the speed of light isn't fast enough to connect to sweden and keep the pipe stable enough

Lol I've been on all evening and nobody was online too :v:

What version are you running?
I'm adding the expansion packs to the server. I'm thinking of setting up a more serious co-op server where money actually counts and we're working towards a hard goal.
What version are you running?
0.0.5

Don't worry, we can be faggots togheter

That's not really handy for a public server, everyone can then just join and deplete our hard-earned money.
Oh shit a OpenRCT server? count me in!
Start zone could use some organizing.
