Hey guys,
After so many years of playing war games/shooters, I'm getting tired of them and I remember playing fighting games (mainly Tekken 2) on the PS1 as a wee lad. I miss those and I wanna get into them.
Can I grab some suggestions for fighting games on PC? Primarily if it's available on Steam? I'm looking to get Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V on steam. I'm in Australia, how popular are these games in Aus? I don't mind playing Single player constantly but I think it'd be fun to play MP too.
Also, is playing with a keyboard do-able? I remember playing online with Need for Speed with a keyboard and I was pretty damn good compared to those with controllers. I don't mind investing a controller if need be, but if a keyboard is sufficient, I'll just use my keyboard.

If you love boss rush type try Serio Castlevania Fighter
Keyboard is in theory the best, since it is nearly impossible to miss diagonals and shit like qcf and for tekken, kbd becomes easier. Just need a keyboard that doesn't suffer too much from ghosting. Tekken 7 is new so still has plenty of players even in Australia. Don't know about SFV. Anime fighters typically you may be fighting the same people over and over, or may need to find someone in a discord or something.
That said, I bought a fightstick because it's fun to play with.
I'd say try to invest in a controller or a fightstick, you can play fighting games with a keyboard but it's overall more enjoyable with a controller or a fightstick imo.
In terms of fighting games you wanna play now, I'd say Tekken 7 is your best bet. The community still has a lot of new players online so you'll have a more enjoyable experience if you go online. The story mode in T7 is also really nice.
I'd also personally recommend Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator, one of the most beautiful and well crafted fighting games ever. It also has probably the best ingame tutorials in any fighting game ever. The drawback is that the online community is pretty small, therefor there's a lot of veteran players.
Tekken 7 on PC is very active, and features a lot of content both for single-player and multi-player, and is completely doable with a keyboard. SFV is going to be tricky with a keyboard on certain combo inputs but it's still possible. Definitely do recommend if you can get either an Xbox 360/One or Dualshock 4 gamepad.
Skullgirls is also still pretty active on PC, and the new King of Fighters just recently came out on Steam as well, along with the new Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 expansion, which are all worthwhile fighting games. It's a bit of a mess from last I heard but there's also a free to play version of Dead or Alive 5 on PC that may be worth a go.

As mentioned below, forgot about Killer Instinct. It's also free to play and characters are on rotation, and if it's your thing it's worth buying a full season of characters. Marvel VS Capcom 3 is also recently available on PC, which runs smoothly.
Killer Instinct is also a fantastic fighter available on the Windows Store. While it feels very different from the two Rareware games, it still has a lot going for it. It even has an Arbiter from Halo as a playable character if that was one of your FPSes of choice.
If you can get used to the keyboard, you should be alright.
I personally invested in a fightstick mainly for Tekken 7 on PC though. It just feels much better overall (also helped me get better, but that's just me).
keyboard is arguably the best controller you'll get
Lethal League is sort of a fighting game, it's a lot of fun.
Melty Blood.
If you have pretty much any sort of usb controller(ps3, ps4, xbone, etc) they'll now work if you have steam active.
No idea about tekkens scene in oceania, but street fighter has a good scene there. Not sure if guilty gear does but that's a game to look into too.
We have a fighting game thread, you can discuss more there if you want. https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1521984&highlight=
