What are these games?
The endless games are a set of turn based 4X games in which you play as one of several empires and expand, hire heroes, and research tech, all to help you make your way to victory!
What's the story?
The games are named after the big race in the games named 'The Endless', they were the creators of one of the games main resources, dust, which is the currency in the games. The Endless waged a war against each other and ultimately almost wiped themselves out, they are barely present by the time the games begin.
What systems are in all these games?
The most consistent thing throughout the series is the Food, Industry, Dust, Science, (and since Endless Legend) Influence.
Food is what builds up your pops
Industry is what you use to build everything
Dust is the money in these games, using them from healing, to finishing off structures quicker.
Science is what you use to research technology
Influence is what is used to make deals with other factions (both major and minor) as well as other helpful things

The first game in the series you take control of up to 12 different factions, each with different research and ships.

What's different?
Unlike Endless Space, Endless Legend takes place on the extremely important planet of Auriga, taking a more civ styled movement system rather than the system to system mechanic of ES.

What's new?
Dungeon of the endless is the most different out of all the games with that its a roguelike dungeon crawler (however still turn based) in which you control up to 4 survivors of a crashed ship or the locals.

What's changed?
The most recent game in the series and the sequel to Endless Space, this game changes a lot of things from the original, including combat, system improvements and art design.

[sp] sorry if the OP is poor, first time making such a big op :'v [/sp]
Great OP, but I gotta say that Endless Space 2 was a big disappointment for me. Combat was meh clicks to finish, mid game got super laggy no matter what, and felt no motivation for half the missions or things I did. It became a "click to end turn" x 1000 while browsing my phone.

I feel much the same way, and even though the lore is fantastic, the academy quest just feels... eh. It's a shame, because I think EL nailed the story-gameplay interaction mix (long faction quests that lead to victory etc), and they stepped back from that in ES2, which is one of my other disappointments with it.

Which is really unfortunate because the different races have some vastly different playstyles. I liked playing Vodyani and going to war not to take the enemy systems, but their people. Or the unfallen becoming an annoying menace once they have 10 entwiners. The riftborn able to provide bonuses and maluses to systems(Even systems they don't own). But when it comes to combat it's still the same pick a battle card system from ES1 in the end. Also the AI seems obsessively upset with scout ships being anywhere NEAR their borders.

Endless Space 2 has an amazing one as well, legitimately my favourite thing about the game.
Same here. Don't get me wrong, I've been enjoying my time with Endless Space 2 (my first proper foray into the Endless franchise), but now I remember my time with Civ V, I do feel like this is a game that could benefit from the likes of "Concretes & Virtuals" and "Brave New Galaxy", fleshing out old systems and adding new ones through expansions.
Given Amplitude's track record, I have little doubt that ES2 is going to get expansion content of some description. And hopefully, some of the expansion content will overhaul some of the less fleshed-out systems.
While there's something about the pre-planned hands-off nature of the combat that I found oddly zen, I would not object if future content made the battles more interactive. I wouldn't object to being able to order ships to directly target others if I tell them to (rather than rely on the pre-programmed "Roles" system), maybe even allow me to target specific modules on enemy ships like I'm Sisko at the helm of the Defiant. And as for ground combat, given that Amplitude is partnered with Sega, maybe Sega could give the guys at Creative Assembly the task of fleshing out ground battles while Total War: Warhammer II is being cleaned up for its September release?
I'm still down with Endless Space 2, but given the issues I am a little down on it. I'm digging the exploration aspect in the early-to-mid game, since I love the Ruins system from the Civ games, but I am still left wanting more. Enhanced diplomacy and the inclusion of espionage would be nice too, giving Heroes more options than either backing up a fleet or governing a colony.
The art, music and atmosphere are insanely good in all of Amplitude's games, and easily make it worth the time I invest in them. I think all of the ES/EL games are pretty solid 4X games with their own flaws, but the oozing atmosphere is what keeps me going back to them.
So far ES2 feels like a massive improvement to ES1, but it still is lacking in some areas. I know that the devs still plan to expand on some areas which they could not fully finish at release so I have no doubt the game will age well, and hopefully have a great expansion like harmony was to ES1.
It definitely needs those expansions. I'm hopeful that they'll be able to bring those out eventually, in spite of the initial reception.
