It is almost that time of the year again. On 06.08-09.08.2015 (05.08 for the press and wildcard winners) Gamescom returns to Cologne again as one of the biggest gaming trade-fairs in europe.
Like last year the event gets bigger which even includes an entire hall (5.1) which is reserved exclusively for merchandising and tabletop games.

You can purchase tickets from their online store (Here!). You can also purchase one at one of many Saturn stores here in Germany.
Note: Saturday tickets are already SOLD OUT!
Note: Get them early since the prices for those tickets will rise on august.

Transportation?
Koelnmesse is well connected. I'm just gonna post the most common ways on how to get there in a copy-paste like fashion.
Arriving by public transportation
Underground Lines 1 and 9: “Bahnhof Deutz” station
The South Entrance is approx. 3 minutes walk from the platform at this
station.
Underground Lines 3 and 4: “Koelnmesse” station
Lines 3 and 4 stop directly at the East Entrance.
Arriving by the Deutsche Bahn (German Railways)
Cologne “Messe/Deutz” train station
(Distance Koelnmesse: approx. 0.3 km)
We recommend you to arrive at Cologne “Messe/Deutz” train station.
From there the South Entrance is approx. 3 minutes walk away.
Cologne Main Station (Distance Koelnmesse: approx. 1.5 km)
If your train arrives at Cologne Main Station, there are four ways to get from
there to Koelnmesse:
1. By foot over the “Hohenzollern” bridge
Leave Cologne Main Station via the main entrance. The way onto the
“Hohenzollern” bridge is behind the Cologne cathedral. At the other end of
the bridge, please follow the signposts to Koelnmesse.
2. Crossing the Rhine by ferry
Leave Cologne Main Station via the “Breslauer Platz” exit. Turn right and go
down to the bank of the Rhine. Here you will find the ferry mooring. After
the crossing, please follow the signposts to Koelnmesse. The ferry runs
during the period from Easter to the end of October. Departure times can
be requested at +49 221 38 47 38 (Personenschiffahrt Linden).
3. By “S-Bahn” suburban rail from Cologne Main Station to Cologne
“Messe/Deutz” station
The “S-Bahn” lines S6, S11, S12 and S13 leave Cologne Main Station from
platform 10 towards Cologne “Messe/Deutz” at regular intervals. This station
is opposite the South Entrance.
4. By taxi to one of the four entrances
(Entrance North, Entrance East, Entrance South, Entrance West)
Leave Cologne Main Station via the main entrance. Here you will find a taxi
stand.
Don't forget: Your Gamescom ticket will act as a train ticket for the S-Bahn and underground lines.

I still have to book tickets and a hotel. Any suggestions for a good hotel?
I'll be getting a Trade visitor ticket because fuck waiting in lines.
Also meetup?

If I were you i would get a hotel which is not close to the gamescom/centre of cologne since they tend to be expensive on that week.
Try searching the bergisch gladbacher str for a hotel.
It's not that far away, prices are a bit cheaper and you are probably only a few steps away from a trainstation and can take the line 3, which brings you to koelnmesse/deutz hbf in under 15 minutes.
Or you can try https://www.airbnb.de/.
wait hold on, what are these dates? are they in mmddyy or ddmmyy?
It's ddmmyy.
I didn't got to Gamescom last year, but I think I'll try to go this time. The one in 2012 was my favorite so far.
Any of you guys getting trade tickets?

Thanks, a bit more specific would be nice since all that search does is link me to a bunch of german sites. German has never been my strongest language.

Eh i should have been a little bit more specific.
Try searching for the region called Holweide (Zipcode 51067).
Here's one for an example (apparently they have special prices during fairs, maybe you should call them first):

On topic: There won't be a press conference from Sony this year.
Meanwhile on Microsoft's side:

Going to Gamescom for the first time this year! Booked flights and tickets as a group of four (for Friday, possibly Saturday (afternoon) / Sunday too if there's too much to see in one day), I am so hyped holy shit

See if you can get trade tickets, it allows you to get in on the press/industry day on Wednesday and the pre-order day on Thursday. It's WAY less crowded and on Wednesday lines are non-existent. Sunday is hell and Saturday is pretty bad when it comes to how crowded it is.
Bump because i got some news.
1. Friday tickets are now sold out as well. Thursday and sunday tickets are still avaible.
2. The exhibitor list is now avaible. You can read through it and maybe you will find your favourite publisher, company etc.
