What is Death Stranding?
From Wikipedia:
"Death Stranding is an upcoming open world action video game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. It is game director Hideo Kojima and his company's first game following the 2015 disbandment and termination of their contract from Konami, and was officially announced at Sony's E3 2016 conference. It currently has no set release date, although Kojima stated that the game would be released prior to the year the film Akira was set, which is 2019."
Plot
It is a Hideo Kojima Game. That all. Many Theories in the air, but not an official one.
Info
1. Base an interview that RedBull.com did, here are some Key things we know:
- The trailer is intentional confusing because Kojima enjoy the different interpretation each individual person have. Kojima doesn't love give answers for the story away so easily or even at all.
- Guillermo del Toro is a bro for telling Kojima he must do a big-scale game like always did in the past.
- It is confirmed he is the same Guillermo del Toro in the second trailer and play a BIG role in the game.
- It is written in the article that Guillermo del Toro was holding a robot fetus. Now, I don't know if this was a mistake, but if indeed the baby is a robot, this is very interesting.
- Hermen Mulst is also a bro giving Kojima a cool box with a USB drive containing the entire source code of the engine they had to use for his game, named Decima.
- Calling people directly on the Phone is a OP tactic to have awesome people to your Development Team.
- There is a female lead, but we don't know yet.
- The game is fully playable as single player, but it can be also a co-op experience.

2. From a recent interview, Del Toro confirmed not to be creatively involved in Death Stranding. He will be just a major character for the game.

Theories
Any possible Theory about the world of the game can be posted here by me. Anything is welcome:
Upside Down Rainbow - The Wrath of God?
It seems the rainbow in the second trailer have a very important scientific and symbolic meaning.
The Rainbow in Genesis is a reminded for GOD, no man to remember his covenant. Destroying the world with water.
So, I guess an upside down rainbow is the opposite? No mercy for humanity bringing The Judgement Day upon us? Who knows...
Death Versus Life - Annihilating Humanities Last Hope?
In the trailer we can see "clearly" somehow there are so far two Factions:
The people who are connected with babies.
The people who are connected with undeads.
Maybe these factions symbolic Life and Death. The Death Faction hunt down the people who hold the babies for unknown reasons.
Kojima and Mikkelsen together is very dope!
I will buy a Playstation for this.
Seems kinda early for a thread
Seems kinda early for a thread
Mostly I created it to discuss different Theories speculations base the trailers show to us.
So far it seems it is a War between Life and Death, literally.
Also the worms have the ability to give "Life" to objects, like we saw with the tank, planes and the doll.
So many things to talk about.
Op don't forget thom yorke
Someone pointed this out to me, but if you watch the trailers side by side the moment the baby disappears in the first trailer it appears in the second trailer.
I don't know what it means but that's a thing.
So Guillermo just leant his face and body to the 3D scanning, but someone else is going to be voicing and doing the mo-cap for the character.
Norman Reedus is the MC.
Mads is going to be the antagonist/rival.
The latest trailer ran on the PS4 Pro in real-time on the Decima engine, designed by Guerilla Games (also being used for Horizon).
[editline]3rd December 2016[/editline]
There were a couple tech videos of the engine for both Horizon and Death Stranding that might get posted on youtube.
So we have
Norman Reedus and his baby Fetus.
Guillermo del Toro and his pickled [del]bambino[/del] el Ninó.
Mads Mikkelsen and his umbilical gunmen.
Also supposedly it's getting a PC release late with the citation that "Kojima does not want the game datamined so he's delaying it a bit for PC." Although that was an unreliable yet somewhat accurate 4chan leak that made mention of Mads Mikkelsen and Del Toro before the trailer announced them.
Someone pointed this out to me, but if you watch the trailers side by side the moment the baby disappears in the first trailer it appears in the second trailer.
I don't know what it means but that's a thing.
Worth noting this only works with a version of the second trailer that starts with del Taco instantly walking into view without 30 seconds of looking at dead crabs first.
so Kojima just confirmed that Mads is playing the antagonist, and the engine they are using is from Decima, the same thas been used for Horizon: Zeron Dawn.
Sweet

He wasn't concrete on the antagonist part though. He implied a "sort of" antagonist but not a definitive 'bad' to norman's 'good'.
What exactly makes you people interested in this game? The fact that it's a Hideo Kojima game, or that it will be starring some known actors?
Just asking, as the trailers seems to show, for me at-least, something that looks more like some sort of weird movie, than anything resembling an actual game.
i think that is mainly because the video was a "teaser" rather than a trailer
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for what Kojima is going to bring with this game.
But it's been pretty overhyped all over the internet for nothing being really revealed. It's best to keep your expectations low until something actually substantial comes out, and not some teasers that, while they are interesting, doesn't even come close to anything tangible.
I hope Hideo can prove me wrong, but he's one step away from being the next David Cage.

I thought the rainbow was to symbolize God destroying the world with water (after it rained, the flood and Noah's ark which afterwards a rainbow appeared) and was a reminder that he will again destroy the world but with fire, bringing in the new age/new heaven and new earth.

I mean, nobody knows anything concrete yet to be hyped about. I have a good feeling that Kojima can create an evocative story after the kind of insane shit we saw in PT, personally, and because this is a totally new IP, it doesn't have to be held to the standards and expectations of Metal Gear Solid necessarily.
Also, there are Hideo Kojima games that managed to change the gaming landscape for the better and get people thinking. There is not a single David Cage game that doesn't have some glaring story or gameplay flaw or both, except maybe Heavy Rain. Even if you attribute the flaws in MGSV to solely Kojima, he still has a much better track record.
And now we've got Detroit: "This story is special because the robots are the good guys and the humans are bad guys" Become Human on the way. Are we sure these are comparable people? :v:

I like the really trippy and creepy nature of the game, and it has Norman Reedus.

wtf lol
comparing kojima to david cage, im struggling to find words to describe how off that comparison is
one is a successful video game designer with bonafide critically acclaimed and well received hit games on his CV, the other is a failed movie director hack who makes hack hype job interactive movies for video game consoles.

My comparison is of David Cage before Heavy Rain was released. You might not remember, but I clearly recall a hype cult around the game, shielding Cage from any criticism and making the game seem like some sort of highlevel story game that only a genius could understand.
I know Kojima is far more talented than Cage. Obviously. But the trailers of Death Stranding give off some type of pretentiousness that might put people off.
I just wanna know
-Why there are weapons from the past, tanks from the present and technology from the future all in the same place
-Why the planes had umbilical cords/wires

Personally I have something of a love/hate relationship with Kojima, but unless you count games he only produced he's never really released a bad game. Not all of them were amazing but they always at the very least have redeeming factors, and many of them are really good.
David Cage has good ideas for some individual parts and scenes of his games, but overall every one of them range somewhere from mediocre to complete trash. Heavy Rain is the only one of his games that came close to actually being thoroughly good, but he still managed to fuck it up.
Still, this is Kojima's first game after Konami. He's working with a new team, in a new corporate structure, on a new engine, with a completely new concept. And it seems like he's been given just about total free reign to do what he wants, which I'm not entirely sure is a good idea. Kojima usually seems to work best when he has someone there to restrain his insane bullshit a bit. Kinda like David Cage in that respect, except David Cage has never been restrained enough.
Mads Mikkelsen is one of my favorite actors, and Norman Reedus is a great actor as well. I'm extremely glad to see them have roles in the game.
I feel obligated to post this here as well:
Norman Reedus found a fetus.
"I could eat this," said Reedus, holding the fetus.
But alas he looked down, and with a frown,
A man named del Taco said, "You can't eat this."
And stole the fetus from Norman Reedus.
Really? Then I read a false source.
I will fix it. Thank you.
Btw, The Rainbow also symbolize the weapon of God, specifically a Bow.
I feel like this is one of those games where I won't play it but I would be super interested in the story.

Obviously I know nothing, but it's not that far fetched to have future + past technology being used in a post apocalyptic setting when that future technology is probably very limited.
And for the last part it's speculation. My guess is that they managed to fuse living tissue to engines in order to power them, since gas/oil is probably very limited.
