There hasn't been a thread for this game so I figured I might as well make one.
Wikipedia description:
Fortnite is an upcoming survival video game, developed by People Can Fly and Epic Games, who will also publish the game. It is centred on a scavenge by day and fight by night scenario. It will be the first game from Epic to use their Unreal Engine 4 and is currently set for release in 2016.
Fortnite is described as a co-op sandbox survival game and is about exploration, scavenging items, building fortified structures, and fighting waves of encroaching monsters. Players will work together to scavenge items they can use for building by day to build their fort, and by night defend it from the zombies. Building will be a core mechanic in the game, and there will be "a lot of loot" buried within. Players can build and edit each wall of their fort with a 3x3 grid, lay down stairs, roofs, and windows, sculpting them to suit a particular need. Due to these gameplay element, the game is described as "Minecraft meets Left 4 Dead" by Tim Sweeney, the founder of Epic Games. The terrain and the maps of the game are generated randomly, and players are given a variety of weapons such as ranged weapons like shotgun, sniper rifle and melee weapons like katana. The game features four different classes, namely ninja, the outlander, commando, and constructor. Different classes have different abilities. For instance, high wall can only be built by the constructor class, while the ninja class's melee ability is much better than the other classes. Players can also destroy environmental objects and scenery items to obtain resources. When players obtain a yellow orb, the attack performed by the player will become stronger, and they will gain the ability to collect resources faster. Weapons can also be crafted, and the playable character's skills can be customized through upgrading and leveling up. Different parts, such as floor, traps, wall and roof, and whether they are made of wood, stone, or metal, are decided by players when they are building a fortified structure. A player versus player mode will also be featured, which will accommodate up to ten different players.

About Fortnite:
Fortnite is the living, action building game from the developer formerly known as Epic MegaGames. You and your friends will lead a group of Heroes to reclaim and rebuild a homeland that has been left empty by mysterious darkness only known as "the Storm". Band together online to build extravagant forts, find or build insane weapons and traps and protect your towns from the strange monsters that emerge during the Storm. In an action experience from the only company smart enough to attach chainsaws to guns, get out there to push back the Storm and save the world. And don't forget to loot all the things.
Reclaim
Reclaiming this mysterious world won’t be easy. You and your friends must explore the world for weapons, traps and building items that will allow you to push back the Storm by closing gates spread throughout the land. The monsters that emerge from the Storm will do everything in their power to keep you from closing those gates. It’s okay, you’ve got the boomstick.
Rebuild
Rebuilding the world will require deadly creativity and lots of bacon. Take parts you find in the world and craft them into guns, melee weapons and traps that attach to your forts. Speaking of forts, our build system allows you to quickly build and repair complex structures during the heat of battle. You can’t build or fight with bacon, but you can eat it. All great civilizations are built on the back of bacon.

There is weirdly not a lot of specific information about the game and the alpha is under NDA so those who are in it can't really say a whole lot either.

The official channel has bunch of archives of past livestreams they've done which show off a decent amount of the game so check those out if you're interested in seeing more.

The game is currently in closed alpha, you can sign up for it here. The chances of getting in that way seem pretty low though, so if you really wanna get in it, some of those key sites out there are actually selling alpha keys for fairly cheap. Though do remember that the final game will be free to play.
I got into the alpha myself recently and really the main reason I made this thread is to find other people that are playing the alpha so we could team up and shit. So, anyone else playing this?
I signed up for alpha at least 5 months ago and still silence. :(
So far Fortnite is an incredibly polished experience that lacks content and proper gameflow.
The normal gamemode which is usually in the two phases of scavenging and then defending something. Some classes are more useful in one of the phases while the others are just kinda boring-to-play deadweights during them.
All 4 invites I had gone!

The amount of people that they actually accept from the sign ups seems really minimal. In general, the alpha seems kinda small. If you actually wanna get in the alpha, your best bet would be either getting a key from some giveaway or just buying one.
okay from what I played(and it isnt a lot) I have hope for this game. I like the gameplay and building, base expansion stuff is cool, but obviously since there are barely any people playing I have to solo everything.
Anyone up for organising some group for this (helping each other out and shit yo) :v: Been playing the last 2 days so addicting :v:
Oh man, I saw this game years ago and wondered what happened to it.
Looks like it turned out pretty nice, any release date?
Anyone playing this now that it's about to be released and early access is in effect? I'd love to team up with some people and chat on discord while playing.
this game is lit
I've been playing this game.
I haven't played it since like OT3-4 back at the end of 2015/beginning 2016.
They've changed and added so much. Really enjoying for now though.
Someone who knows how to should set up a discord for this for getting groups to play with like we have for PUBG, I'd love to play some of this grouped up.

Just set this one up. PM me if you have any suggestions. https://discord.gg/h2WnyhK

You could add a LFG section like we have in the PUBG discord that would ping everyone connected if someone does at @ there. Makes it easy to spot when someone's looking for a group.
If you are in the alpha can you keep playing the game as usual or?

Check your email to see if they gave you a founder's pack.
I know a lot of people from the alpha got chosen to have different tiers of founders packs. Think it might have done with if you spent any money during the alpha.
Would you guys be willing to craft items for people from your best schematics if they give you the raw mats for them? I would. I don't have too much great stuff, but I can take a screenshot of my schematics when I get home.
Sure.
If anyone has the mats for this i'll craft it for them

Added. If anyone wants to add me I'm FalseLogic on the client.
Is it true that at every round the fort you built will be removed?
Also what do you guys think of this review (Reddit)

Not exactly. Your fort that you place around your own home base storm shield is persistent and doesn't get removed. Anything you build during a mission away from your base will be removed.
That's a pretty good review. I don't personally mind the repetition, but I'll admit the loot llama system is pretty dumb. I've yet to get any legendary weapons or heroes, meanwhile someone else I know has gotten one of each. We both purchased the same edition of the game, and he's played less than half the amount I have.
That being said, I still enjoy it even with it's flaws, and I'm hopeful that Epic will come around and make a few changes by the time it goes f2p in 2018.
Right now you can claim a free llama that will give you 15 upgrade llamas. Not sure how long this is going to last.
Is this game playable solo? I like the idea of it, but don't always want to have to communicate or deal with randoms that don't contribute.

You can play solo for a while. I imagine the way harder missions might be way tougher alone but you can stick to being alone for a long time.

Just read through it and it reminds me of Diablo 3 auction house days where you basically get nothing unless you're willing to spend money. Accept in this case only Epic makes money.
I don't know if I want to play if I know that I'll get basically no rewards for actually playing vs gambling on llamas.

You get a looooot of llamas by just playing though. At least early on.
Is it possible to get into the alpha/beta without buying the game or has that train already left the station?
Is it possible to get into the alpha/beta without buying the game or has that train already left the station?
The game has officially left that stage. Right now you have to pay to get in.
As someone who paid for Paragon let me be the first to tell you that Fortnight is still designed as a F2P game and will probably be free again down the line. The higher edition levels just frontload the player with loot and rare things.

It's been confirmed that it's going f2p next year
I just started the game after a friend gave me one of his codes.
Holy shit... YOU HAVE NO OVERVIEW. I lost sight of what's important in just 10 minutes of playing it. There are millions of windows and UI systems in this game. What the fuck, I have never seen a game that is such a mess to navigate in. Why is everything so complicated and why is there so much of it?
They need to simplify the game and its design. My god, I can't even bring myself to play it more even if the base game has some addiction to it.
