Game Info
Evil Genius is a single player real-time strategy and simulation video game developed by Elixir Studios and published by Sierra Entertainment, released on 28 September 2004. The game is inspired by the spy thriller genre (notably the James Bond film series). Similarly to Dungeon Keeper, the game turns the traditional plotline on its head, with the player acting as the villain, evading the comically stereotyped forces of justice. Gameplay revolves around the player building an island fortress and achieving clichéd world domination, much like most films.
Since 2 March 2006, the intellectual property rights of the game are owned by Rebellion Developments.[2][3]
On 8 August 2013, Rebellion Developments announced via their official Twitter account that there is an online game in the works titled Evil Genius Online.[4] It is currently in open beta [5] as a Facebook game.
Gameplay
Evil Genius focuses on building an island lair and the management of minions that are employed by the Evil Genius, allowing the player to progress through the main storyline with achieving world domination as the end goal of the game. Although not explicitly stated the use of historic regions (the Eastern Bloc) and events (such as the Cuban Missile Crisis) within the game suggest that it is set in the 1960s and 70s and that the game is progressing through an alternate timeline. Furthermore the styling of the game, which is reminiscent of 1960s Atomic Age designs also suggest a 1960s-1970s setting.
The player is represented in game as one of three selectable evil geniuses: Maximilian, Alexis or Shen Yu.
Rebellion has a great IP on their hands and their pissing it away with that fucking facebook pile of crap.
Ok I need some help.
1. Loyalty, I just keep getting notices that people are leaving left and right, and I have to kill them because I'm scared they'll rat me out.
2. Missions, I don't mind leaving minions to steal and crap, but I don't really get noticed on enemy agents until it's too late and I loose my abroad men.
3. Money, I just keep getting down to $20,000 even though I have men in two countries at least, but I usually get them out rather than not have men at the base.
What am I doing wrong? :c
Also I have the Steam version.
I swear rebellion stated that there would be a full game and that the facebook one wasn't the sequel

Steal treasures and place them in high traffic areas and that'll sort out the loyalty problem.

I must admit I have a memory of something like that happening as well.
Also mod the game to raise your population cap but don't go over 500.
Copy and paste this into the file called "population" in the config folder.
MaxPopulation=500
PopulationEntry=0,50
PopulationEntry=1,50
PopulationEntry=2,100
PopulationEntry=5,150
PopulationEntry=10,150
PopulationEntry=20,200
PopulationEntry=30,250
PopulationEntry=40,250
PopulationEntry=50,300
PopulationEntry=60,350
PopulationEntry=70,350
PopulationEntry=80,400
PopulationEntry=90,500
PopulationEntry=100,500
I just made it so it's probably a bit unbalanced but since I normally just make it so I've got 500 population right from the beginning so it's more balanced that how I normally play...
Also, the number to the left of the comma is your "notoriety" so once you hit say 10 notoriety you have the ability to have a max population of 150 using my values and so on and so forth. You change it up however you want too, so you can add or subtract PopulationEntry's. I normally just play with one entry "PopulationEntry=0,500" and delete the rest.
ok, also plotting, I swear it takes too long, I've already done the plots that are there when you start, and when I plot again, there isn't much to do.
ok, also plotting, I swear it takes too long, I've already done the plots that are there when you start, and when I plot again, there isn't much to do.
Missions are unlocked based on your notoriety iirc so plotting just helps uncover them. You should place some science minions (if avaliable) in different places on the map and then wait like 5 minutes and if nothing shows up move them to another place.
[editline]27th May 2014[/editline]
You should always have missions available so there shouldn't be nothing to do.

doesn't help that I stick to few countries.
Again, I don't want everyone on my base to be gone.
What's an ideal starting pop of minions?

Well, here are the default values:
MaxPopulation=100
PopulationEntry=0,10
PopulationEntry=1,15
PopulationEntry=2,20
PopulationEntry=5,25
PopulationEntry=10,35
PopulationEntry=20,45
PopulationEntry=30,55
PopulationEntry=40,65
PopulationEntry=50,75
PopulationEntry=60,80
PopulationEntry=70,85
PopulationEntry=80,90
PopulationEntry=90,100
PopulationEntry=100,100
You make it what you feels fair.

Having a bunch of minions gone isn't a problem provided that once they are done doing what they are doing on the map you bring them right back to base so you can fend off the agents that will come from the heat you generated.
No, I mean like when I start the game, what is a good amount of minions to have, so I can maintain a ratio of minions home to minions abroad.
maybe you should start sending me PM's before it's just me flooding this thread with numerous questions :v:
With a population of 500 you can have your cake and eat it too since no matter how many minions you have away from base there are always a shit ton more still at base to handle any problems that come up.

Naw, these questions benefit everyone plus if I'm wrong about something I can be corrected and shit.
But anyway, at the start of the game I wouldn't send more than a third? The reason for this is because if a mission goes tits up and they all die then your base is severely under defended. Honestly you're going to have to feel it out and find out what works out best for you.
Of course, you could always cheat and gives yourself millions of dollars and lower the minion recruitment timer so you get a new minion every second. Then you wouldn't have to worry about it!

Actually you can kinda exploit the game a bit. When you get the mission to abduct the maid don't capture her and you can just put tons of minions on the map and steal load of money with no consequences. But keep at least 2 minions back at base since money is an actual physical object in this game if you don't leave a minion back at base to move money from the depot to your vault your money won't increase.
Sounds like fun. Not really fair and ruining the point of the game really, but interesting.
Oh and I've got a bunch of mods that I can upload if everyone wants. Just point me in the direction of a decent host and I'll do it.

I can't comment on fair since I've never beat the game legitimately (humanzee then CTRL-C ftw). The way I see it an Evil Genius wouldn't play fair. :P
this game has the best music

Also I don't understand that well, how does not taking the main = easy money for the world?

The game doesn't progress until the maid is captured and interrogated. Basically, no agents come to your island while she is roaming around on it so you're free to do whatever the fuck you want on the map.

My favorite little exploit. Spend all my starting cash on 1 giant barracks with lockers everywhere. Then put 90 workers in the 3 9$ zones and rake in like 100k/m with no threat of retaliation

But wouldn't that take up alot of the mountain space?
In fact, if I wanted to do that what's a good start setup?

You can demolish rooms. Once you get millions you just remove it, then start building your base normally. Now you have endless funds, a full hotel, and a power plant(if you build tons of useless doors/control panels to force yourself into a blackout, which in turn unlocks it earlier) before the game ever truly starts.
Alright sounds like a plan.
Step 1. Don't capture the maid.
Step 2. Build a nicely sized storeroom, and a big barracks.
Step 3. Send all but two goons into the world to steal loadse monneh.
Step 4. black out early to make a power plant.
Step 5. once financially secure enough, fire some of those minions and play normal.
One more thing though.
How the fuck does the timeclock work?
[editline]27th May 2014[/editline]
also does villain choice matter?

Yea it determines what starting bodyguard you get. Also whatever you do avoid hiring Red Ivan.

Alexis
- Huge SOI (sphere of influence), lower/slower regeneration of stats compared to other geniuses though.
- Her passive ability lowers loyalty degradation of your minions.
Max
- Medium SOI, comparable to some Loot you can steal, but raises stats much faster than Alexis when you compare.
- His passive ability lowers the cost of research by 10% or something. Doesn't work if you don't have the patches, though, get them anyway because they're amazing.
Shen
- Small SOI, makes up for it with really fast regen. Never really play him myself, I usually stick to Alexis and Max.
- Passive ability makes agents take longer to appear, and they spend less time on the island.
All three of the starting Henchmen are pretty good. They're pretty different though, you can get more as the game goes on anyway. They all also have unique execution animations, but their effects are the same.
Oh, and about the timeclock:
Red: Don't staff this room, turn off everything in it (use this to save power if you're really low on it).
Yellow: Staff minimally (eg. An armoury with two security desks that need one minion per desk will only request two minions to work there).
Each tick above yellow: Staff an extra minion in that room (eg. An amoury with two security desks, but with the timeclock two ticks above yellow will request four minions to work there).
Over staffing rooms is useful to assure minimal downtime for stuff like security desks or medical facilities, in case a minion has to leave (to fullfill needs or train or whatevers).
I use Shen, solely to start with Lord Kane.
I mean that guy, just read his description.
Lord Kane is an almost mythic figure in the criminal underworld. Many urban legends hold Lord Kane responsible for pretty much every major crime or disaster this century, from the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand to the Hindenburg. Unlike most urban legends, they are actually true in this case, although Lord Kane is of course meticulous in ensuring that no evidence can ever link him to his deeds. He insists to this day that his biggest crime was simply the result of a deaf lackey who misheard his order of "A bit of light panic, I think, eh?" as "The ship Titanic, sink her." With the European aristocracy wrapped around his little finger and the unwashed masses quaking in fear at his very name, Lord Kane is both a master manipulator and deadly combatant.
Lord Kane should be an evil genius himself.

Alexis 4 lyfe. Eli is just too good to pass up early. Best at stealing, has a huge single target dmg ability, and using his ghetto blaster to make agents dance with him is just too good to pass up. Plus he's such a sterotypical 70's blacksploitation character.
Ok, so I have another question.
How do lockers work? I made a room and managed to fit a total of 34 lockers.
Now I can have a total capacity of 79 minions!
How does that happen?!
