The surge is a souls-like game that takes place in a futuristic rocket assembly complex and you need to fuck shit up with your modular exoskeleton power suit.
This game is made by the Lords of the Fallen developers and they have learned a lot from that game, this time around they made sure they did enough things to differentiate The Surge from Hidetaka Miyazaki's work.
One of the big gimmicks is being able to target enemy body parts in order to keep the armor and weapons used by that limb.

in case anyone's having troubles with xinput ps3 controller (serious fucking input lag), setting the priority of scp-server to high fixed it
I finished up with the 3rd area (biolabs/greenhouses?) and getting ready for the 4th. I'm... quite liking it. It's pretty unforgiving when you take a hit, but then I got a tooltip saying how to parry and some of the shittier enemies became less of a problem.
how do you parry? is it perfect block mechanics?
The combat feels great in this game. The second area is so much harder than the first one, it's like smashing your head against a wall. This game is great.

As far as I can tell if you time it right you'll stagger the enemy and attacking after blocking a hit does extra damage, what kind of attacks you can block depends on what you're blocking with and I think the stability of your armor too

Yeah, just a perfect guard. I haven't messed with any armor besides the default I got, so I can't say much beyond that.
From what I've seen so far I find it surprising that this game was created by the same developers of 'Lords of the Fallen'. It looks promising and it seems lessons were learnt. I'll likely wait though until it goes on sale sometime in the future.
backstabs are a thing in this game too, sort of
if you're in the right place behind a humanoid enemy you kick them down and you can do a charged attack for massive damage
holding down attack buttons does a charged attack too
Pulled an all nighter to play this the moment it came out and I'm loving it, but at the same time I almost don't want to play it because I'm worried I'm gonna finish it too quickly.
I heard there are only 5 bosses and I got to the first one after just 3 hours, are the other areas bigger than the first one at least?
Bashing my head over third boss. Shit is so unfun with little to no room for evades.
Also heavy weapons are super clunky and slow. First time I consider not touching anything bigger than one-hander.
I'd wait for a sale, i'm really having a hard time being convinced to buy now but at least it does look better than Lords of the Fallen.
How come people aren't so keen on Lords of the Fallen? I quite enjoyed it.
It may have been less challenging than the souls games but I enjoyed my time with it.
When I saw some gameplay of this, the characters heavier movement reminded me a lot of LOTF, I quite enjoyed that heavier feel with that game, impacts were certainly weightier. I may pick this up at somepoint.

Honestly, Lords of the Fallen had nice ideas but overall it was executed rather poorly. I thought the gameplay really felt apart after a short while. The balancing and character stats were also quite horrible. I felt that weight was nice but overall the combat felt rather clunky mostly because the enemies and their AI were rather dull.
On another note, I really like how the gameplay looks but I cannot wrap my head around the art style and aesthetics of the game. It looks marvelous but just very dull to me, the exoskeleton power suit aspect of this game seems quite boring to me. Not entirely convinced right now.

Fair enough.
The one thing that might make me a little sad about this game is the lack of any kind of fashion items :C

Yeah, I find the gear itself not very visually appealing. Looks like a bunch of shitty bionicles duking it out.
Not usually interested in Souls games but I'm really digging the sci-fi aesthetic. Anybody knows how long the entire game is?
I just finished it. Took me about 19 hours. Over all, it's okay. The beginning parts are strong, but kind of gets meh as it goes on.
In case anyone else has the song that plays in OPS stuck in their head, here it is

I can't figure out why I keep dying in the second area, keep getting randomly oneshot.

How come? I guess they had to rush some parts.
Wow this voice acting is really, really bad
Finished and tried a little of NG+
about 23 hours as I did some grinding.
I really liked this game fuck i just needed to write somewhere that i really enjoyed it.
So what is the iron maus coin for?

Some of the later areas are a clusterfuck to navigate. Doesn't help the objective becomes increasingly convoluted and obfuscated. I had no clue what I was doing or why I was doing it for the last 1/4 of the game. They do some interesting things with enemies, but it doesn't go as far as I'd like, so it ends up kind of samey.
Still, not so bad that I didn't finish it. I enjoyed it, it just faltered at the end.

I spent what felt like so long trying to find where to go right at the end. I never noticed the small hole to drop down.
Was my main issue with the environment for me. I felt lost sometimes but always felt like i would make progress or find someplace to go but that hole... It's just there in some place that lead to an old area. It didn't make sense to me.
A lot of the level design in this game is fucking weird

The second area in particular threw me for a loop. It's a weird mishmash of logical factory layout and needlessly labyrinthian flustercluck
Please tell me it gets better, I've gotten to the boss of the second area but have just been grinding it out.
Also the way blocking in this game doesn't seem to work. The enemy that it gives you as a tutorial has very telegraphed attacks... but dodging doesn't set it up for a counterattack
The big sister boss is incredibly easy when you consider the idea of just destroying half of the blow torches and just attack her indiscriminately
