So when a soul leaves the body it has nowhere to go, and must remain here, in the Metro. A harsh, but not undeserved atonement for our sins, wouldn't you agree?" - Khan, Metro 2033. What is the Metro series?
The Metro game series was started as an online book written by a man by the name of Dmitry Glukhovsky due to his interest in myths from the Metro stations in Moscow itself, and his fun when playing the original Fallout video game. It was eventually made into a video game from some of the very same people who created the S.T.A.L.K.E.R video game series, a game highly praised for its highly atmospheric world. It follows a man by the name of Artyom, who follows a story almost akin to Half Life 2, which was a heavily influence for the structure of the Metro video games. Linear in nature, and an ending goal to the game within a highly immersive world created by a team of only about 80 people.
Metro: Redux (game)
Metro Redux remakes both games with a improved 4A Engine. While Metro: Last Light will have a improved version, Metro 2033 will be completely remade in the Last Light engine with the same features as Metro: Last Light. Metro Redux is being made for the next-generation consoles as well as PC. Metro 2033: - All-new lighting engine. - Lower end PCs perform better. - Cinematics have been redone and are now all presented in first-person perspective. - Features day and night cycles. - More detail to levels and will boast greater visual fidelity. - Some levels have been expanded such as: the Dead City section is now a single level. - 60fps on next-gen consoles. - Borrows a few gameplay elements for Metro: Last Light, such as adding the option to wipe your mask clean as well as combat improvements - like stealth takedowns and weapon customization - All character's models will be changed to the Last Light version. - Metro 2033 Redux will gain all weapons from Last Light and its DLCs. - More realistic weapon handling: the game tracks whether or not there is a round still in the chamber when reloading. Metro: Last Light: - Graphical upgrades. - Improved gameplay. - Includes all Last Light downloadable content. - Players will be able to check their watch and inventory without the HUD. Both Games: - Supports Ranger Mode - Each title can be played in one of two difficulty modes: Survival or Spartan. Survival is modeled after Metro 2033, having more limited supplies and ammunition, slower reload speeds and tougher enemy AI. Spartan makes the game more action- oriented and gives players more resources, in the style of Metro: Last Light. - Support for Linux and SteamOS on the PC. Extremely similar to the original game, Metro 2033, the game is played from the perspective of Artyom, the player-character. The story takes place in post-apocalyptic Moscow, mostly inside the metro system, but occasionally missions bring the player above-ground. The game runs on a much higher quality engine, allowing for better lighting and much better visual fidelity.
Metro 2033 (book)
Metro 2033 (Russian: Метро 2033) is a post-apocalyptic science fiction novel by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky. It is set in the Moscow Metro where the last survivors hide after a global nuclear holocaust. It was published in 2005 in Russia and on March 28, 2010 in the U.S.A. Metro 2033 has spawned a sequel, Metro 2034, a book franchise written by several other writers (Universe of Metro 2033), and an eponymous video game title for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows platforms.
Metro 2034 (book)
Metro 2034 (Russian: Метро 2034) is a novel written by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky and is a sequel to the novel Metro 2033 by Glukhovsky. Although Metro 2034 is the official continuation of the Metro 2033 storyline, the 2013 video game Metro: Last Light - the sequel to the video game adaptation of the original novel - has little to no similarities to the novel in its plot, but some events that are mentioned in the book appear in the game also.
Now get outta here and play some Metro if you haven't already!
One important question cause I'm unsure if any media updates touch on it. If Metro 2033 Redux allows you to use the Last Light DLC weapons during the main game, will Last Light Redux also let you?

I'd like to know the source you got the information for some of those additions being added in the redux versions. Some of those things weren't in the trailer or game descriptions on steam afaik. It would really be nice if Metro 2033 got LL's dlc weapons, and if the games featured both Empty and Chamber reloads now.
Yes, of course. Why would you be lead to believe otherwise? :v:
The little quote summary didn't have it listed and I kind of assumed they wouldn't bother. Consider my pooper hyped though.

Also the official wiki page.
I believe I heard it in the IGN interview. Also the official wiki page.
Oh well that's great then. The Redux bundle is honestly looking almost too good to be true. They are fixing everything that annoyed me in the vanillla games, as well as completely remaking 2033. I already pre-ordered it because I am so hyped for to replay these awesome games with all the additions. More than anything I am looking forward to them making a 3rd metro game someday.
so this is the third metro thread we've had now?
so this is the third metro thread we've had now?
Yeup. Seeing as how nobody was smart enough to make a thread for the entire series, I felt like it was necessary.
New thread, good OP I'm proud you get approximately 1 cabbage medal
Yeup. Seeing as how nobody was smart enough to make a thread for the entire series, I felt like it was necessary.
actually, there is. it's just that and the thread labeled metro 2033 both acted as threads for both games & redux but ah what the hell.
Seeing as I've never touched either of these games and Metro Redux is right around the corner, will be grabbing it for the PS4. Don't usually like fps games on console, but something I can sit back and relax to. I say relax, more like shit myself.

Theres some levels that are all combat and action (or stealth, if you prefer), some that are full on horror, and some that are both. Part of what makes the games so great is how they can mix those two styles of games so well.
I've managed to clock a lifetime in STALKER but I could never get more than 20mins into Metro 2033 for some reason. No idea why. Finished Last Light twice though so I figure this is my chance to return to 2033 and give it another shot.
It must feel nice to be back in 2033 with a better engine. I'm still not sure about Last Light Redux, though.
I stopped playing 2033 after LL came out because the differences between the gameplay and graphics were so different. It's awesome that they can be about the same now, and the experience will be more of 1 long game instead of a game and its sequel. Still hoping they added a decent amount of new content to LL and just haven't been as focused on showing it off as 2033.
Is Metro 2034 the book any good? I saw the English translation in the store, but recalled hearing some mixed things about it.
For anyone interested in getting the Redux of both 2033 and Last Light, if you buy both Metro 2033 and Last Light Complete right now, you'll save £9.52 when you buy the Redux complete because of the 50% discount for owning the originals. But only if you do so before both Last Light Complete and 2033 go off their 75% sale right now.
Is Metro 2034 the book any good? I saw the English translation in the store, but recalled hearing some mixed things about it.
it's... not really a sequel to 2033. a bunch of new characters contained in their own story, and i think apart from some locations the only person from 2033 to return (and i think it's just a passing reference) is hunter. last light/2035 is much more of a direct sequel since it has artyom.
Metro 2034 follows Hunter's POV some time before or during Last Light, is what I last heard.
I'm hoping for a new metro book following Artyom again

They do put in some creepy sections like the dead city and the ghosts but even then, it's just for telling bits of story. Overall it's kind of respectable horror. Some games scare me and I hate the game for it, but this game just immersive. It's kind of like calling The Shining a horror movie, yea I guess but it won't scare you besides put you on edge.
I always thought of The Shining as being more of a Thriller.
http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Metro_2035 Can't wait for this book
Thanks guys. As I've said I've never touched one of these games before so this should be a great experience for me and now is the right time for me to start!
Has the 2034 book been translated yet? I've read 2033 and I'm still waiting to get the sequel.
