Merry Christmas! FCC plans to vote to overturn U.S. net neutrality rules in December
In May, the FCC voted 2-1 to advance Republican FCC Chairman Ajit Pai’s plan to withdraw the former Obama administration’s order reclassifying internet service providers as if they were utilities. Pai now plans to hold a final vote on the proposal at the FCC’s Dec. 14 meeting, the people said, and roll out details of the plans next week.
I think I speak for everyone when I say, fuck you Ashit pie
I hope it fails. Or the courts strike it down. Don't know.
-snip, may have misread the title as overruling suggested rules that were previously voted on, not the current rules in place-

There’s this psychological problem called the Free-Loader Effect. It means that people think that others will be active, so you don’t have to be. This phenomenon becomes more profound the more support a group has, and this is extremely problematic because the vast majority of people support net neutrality, so everybody assumes that the rest of them will do the work for them.
ALL OF YOU THINK THAT EVERYBODY ELSE WILL CALL OR EMAIL, WHEN REALLY NOBODY DOES.
YOU need to be the voice for your community. You, the user reading my comment right now. CALL YOUR CONGRESSMEN. EMAIL THEM. WRITE A PROGRAM TO SEND THEM EMAILS EVERY FIVE MINUTES, DO WHATEVER YOU CAN.
This is not a fight you can lose, unless you want to pay $50 extra a month to browse the internet and read comments like this. Or - on second thought - not read comments like mine, because they’ll be extremely censored and my connection throttled if I mention it.

The article in the link says that they're probably going to be voting to gut Net Neutrality by November 22. It may be outdated info, but better safe than sorry.
That tumblr post is the exact reason Trump was elected

Like the shit going on with Battlefront II, you gotta keep pushing with that energy. Push it further until the suits give in.

I would love to hear you explain your reasoning for this

I think what he meant was "That tumblr post explains the exact reason Trump was elected"

Because turnout was at a low? I've heard many people saying they didn't vote because they couldn't believe Trump would be elected.
So could someone give me the lowdown on what can go down here? Like our chances of actually winning this time around? 9 Million+ people speak out and they just ignore it, like what other options do we have to fight back?
There's been mention of courts overturning it, how does that work? I apologize that I'm not the most informed on the topic, I'd just like to know what's going on.

I mean he lost the popular vote anyway.

The turnout was fairly large, and some people even admit to voting multiple times. He lost the popular vote regardless, turnout has absolutely nothing to do with it

Eh i get what your saying but a video game company that depends on its customers vs a government that doesnt give a fuck isnt really the same.
I've gotta hand it to them, doing it during December of all times is pretty clever. People would be more inclined to accept it since they're probably too busy with the holiday season to fight against this.
RIP
This is absolutely disgraceful. Of course they would do it around the holidays behind our backs. I honestly believe that all of these Net Neutrality advocate groups should do another internet blackout like they did with SOPA. That really gained a lot of attention.
Edit:
If you haven't emailed or phoned your representative or a member of congress yet, do so now. Don't sit back and think that people will do it all for you. Every voice counts.

I would but my rep is Richard Fuckin' burr right now, and if you know anything about Him you know why writing him will be completely fruitless.
i used to care and signed all the petitions and shit or whatever the fuck but just gave it up after a while, its gonna happen and we will just get reamed in the butt
all i can hope for is that my ISP wont be a douche and take advantage of this

My representative is a Trump fanboy and my senator is already on board with net neutrality. I mean I guess I can go yell at the representative for some catharsis.
This country becomes less of a society and more of a collection of people trying to fuck each other over every day.
If the vast majority of Americans speak out and work together to stand up for our right to net neutrality then there's a possibility we could continue having a free and open internet. Or net neutrality will just fade off into the night, not with a bang, but a whimper.
Well, given the fact that virtually all the public comments go against this decision, i hope to god this gets stuck in the courts because they're clearly ignoring the public good.

Ajit Pai has the sole call on this, and he has said outright you don't matter.
I encourage you and everyone else to make as much of a racket as possible at every level, but this is explicitly one persons decision and that one person is an ex-verizon lobbyist and internal lawyer and doens't really care about you, me, or the internet.
This is a surreal situation, but unless you can get a congress that is almost half bought and paid for by these very same telecom companies to agree with you and enact changes to the FCCs authority at a legislative level there's not much hope for the moment.
All I can think of as a stop gap method is to keep outrage up for the next few years. Progressively make it known whenever anything goes wrong, or implementations change, do everything possible to spread that message. Part of the issue is if they neuter the internet as it seems they will, doing so won't be very easy.

My rep founded the """""FREEDOM""" caucus, so he's pretty much consistantly voting against my interests, but thanks to my fucking gerrymandered district, he's got thousands of very conservative voters between his side of the state and mine

Huh. You're right. Guess I should check my facts more.

Maybe in happy fairytale land, but this is the real world where people don't fucking matter. We are absolutely fucking powerless to stop this. We get stomped into a bloody pulp and fucked up the ass with a 1000 degree knife every fucking day and there's nothing we can do, because they don't fucking care.
Ah well, I'm sure eventually someone will snap by trying the civil way to enact change and do it by other means. There's probably enough crazy people out there to try it.
Hey, I just wanted to inform everyone of a pretty easy way to contact your representatives. Someone wrote a bot, at the number '50409'. If you text it with the word "resist," it'll ask you for your name and your address. from there you'll be able to write a message to your representatives. I really advise everyone who cares about this issue to take 5 minutes and send a message. Anything helps. This bot essentially just faxes your message to your representatives.
If you don't want to compose your own message use this one:
I am writing as a voter and your constituent to remind you that net neutrality is a make-or-break issue. I am extremely concerned about recent reports that Ajit Pai's FCC is planning on a vote to gut net neutrality protections. Pai's disregard for the strong public consensus on this issue amounts to an abrogation of his duty as a public servant. While I hold him responsible, voters like me will hold our representatives responsible as well. I will not vote for a Congressman who supports Pai's anti-Title II net neutrality plan. Nor will I vote for a Congressman who, through silence or inaction, allows net neutrality protections to be gutted. This is a defining issue for me.
well not completely powerless
we have certain rights
just nothing people are willing to do of course, including me
but times like these are times we should be acting with it in mind, because this is an outright act of something sinister
What I don't understand is why they are allowed to try this AGAIN after they were already shot down by the FCC once. Will they keep trying year after year until the people are tired and cave in eventually?
