"The agency was very upfront about what type of content we would be seeing, in terms of how graphic it was, so we weren't left in the dark." In 2016, Sarah was one of hundreds of human moderators working for a third-party agency in California.

"They capped us on spending about one minute per post to decide whether it was spam and whether to remove the content," she said. "Sometimes we would also remove the associated account. "Management liked us not to work any more than eight hours per day, and we would review an average of about 8,000 posts per day, so roughly about 1,000 posts per hour. "You pretty much learn on the job, specifically on day one. If I had to describe the job in one word, it would be 'strenuous'.
Don't blame him, facebook is so huge these days there is a lot of illegal shit going on there. I see stuff on there all the time and I am thinking what the hell has this become. Pedo networks, gore, porn. You name it, it is there somewhere. Would hate to be the guy doing this job..
It's like when you sign up to be a police officer, some days you'll be writing tickets, others you'll be stumbling upon a dead body. It's terrible and I feel sorry for anyone whose gotta be put up with some of the horrific shit but I'm glad the company pretty much told them straight up what to expect and see
I read the title and article twice and both times said Facepunch I s2g
imagine spending 8 hours a day going through facebook posts
imagine spending 8 hours a day going through facebook posts
For them it's infinitely worse because they have to spend 8 hours of their life watching/seeing what other people report, so it's like a feed of certified shit. It'd probably a relief for them to see something benign that someone was salty enough about to report. :frown:

[editline]8th February 2018[/editline] Not saying being a police officer and stumbling on a dead body or whatever is better, just that being told that you'll see some shit isn't enough to prepare anybody for anything.
Why people apply for 4chan janitors when they could work on this
Why people apply for 4chan janitors when they could work on this
implying people from 4chan would ever visit facebook.com
Police officers also recieve training to mentally deal with this kind of stuff i imagine, which I'm going to pressume these people don't. "This can be very challenging work, and we want to make sure they feel properly supported. "That is why we offer regular training, counselling, and psychological support to all our employees and to everyone who works for us through our partners. "Although we use artificial intelligence where we can, there are now over 7,000 people who review content on Facebook, and looking after their wellbeing is a real priority for us."
So they do get some support and it's not just a simple forewarning of "you'll see some shit" like you're making it sound
I got a great idea. If we report pictures of cats and teddy bears we could help make their day shine more.
