Amazon.com will soon begin selling the Apple TV set-top box and Google Chromecast, two streaming devices that have been unavailable from the leading online retailer for over two years. Listings for both products have returned to the site, but Amazon isn’t accepting orders just yet. The company has directly confirmed to The Verge that it intends to do so in the near future. “I can confirm that we are assorting Apple TV and Chromecast,” a spokesperson said by email. The news was first reported by CNet.
Seems like Google gottem gud with their move to pull Youtube from Amazon devices in response
If you want to be a media streaming company, you have to play fair with the big boys
Ha, I knew that would work. Didn't expect them to fold that quickly though.
I think Google should force Apple to allow iTunes to stream to chromecast seeing as YouTube is on AppleTV

or maybe not because Apple doesn't have to do anything like that and Google also doesn't have to have YouTube on appleTV it was their choice
Can I now please have prime on chromecast?
I know Apple and Google are big but for some reason I expected Amazon to just stick to it.

Amazon (corporate) hires more employees than both Apple and Google. Amazon Web Services is bigger than IBM, Microsoft, and Google cloud services combined. Amazon is a behemoth

The vast majority of those employees work at fulfillment centers, warehouses, or Whole Foods brick and mortar locations. Can't seem to find a count on the number of engineers but I'm guessing it's comparable to other major tech companies.

Employee count is a bad metric of "company power" though. Despite having that many employees, it's market cap is significantly lower than Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc. and just barely beats out Facebook.
The power of Amazon is not retail the power of amazon is their server business.

It's both.

They're definitely dominant in cloud, but cloud computing is essentially a commodity a this point. Supply chain/fulfillment/"retail" is definitely still their core competency.
Does this mean I will be able to watch the digital Amazon movies I own on Chromecast? Because for whatever silly reason Amazon doesn't let you watch the movies you own in HD through your browser. For some ridiculous reason they want me to stream it through a gaming console to watch movies I paid for in HD. I should've bought the movies through google's store.
Firestick is a decent product. I was looking at maybe getting a chromecast but My phone is too annoyingly slow to be used as a reliable and fast remote, so if I were to buy a streaming device I'd definitely go with a Firestick. The only streaming services I use are Netflix and maybe Prime (but almost never). My mom had been using my 1st gen Xbox 360 for years as a streaming device, but it finally red ringed (for the 3rd time) last year and it's out of warranty so I bought her a firestick as a replacement and she's very happy with it
Will this mean I can use the YouTube app in the Amazon box 2018?

At the same time Google deliberately disabled the picture-in-picture function that's built into iOS for YouTube
So they're all just slightly ruining the user experiences of their competitor's products
Welp. There goes my prediction of amazon starting a competitor to youtube.

They need to be broken up
They need to be broken up
I'd be interested to hear how splitting AWS from their e-commerce operations would do much of anything.

They are a market leader in both fields, but hardly a monopoly in either. Not sure what it would accomplish other than "fuck you Amazon".
Already changed my firestick to a chromecast in anticipation of the removal, a little late Amazon.
