Even though the laws were changed decades ago I'm not really surprised, it still takes a few generations for the attitude towards things seen as ~taboo~ to die off.

This is nice. Love shouldn't be restricted by what race or ethnicity people are.

Most of the country had them, not just the South, but it was the South that held onto them the longest. Alabama still had it in their state constitution up to 2000, although it wasn't enforceable after the Supreme Court ruling that legalized it nationwide. Oh, and the laws weren't always just black/white. Most of the western states banned mixed marriages with Native Americans or Asians.

I'm happy that this is changing for the better. My parents are an interracial couple who have been married for 30 years, but my grandmother never approved of my mother's date choices. It's one of the reasons they became estranged with each other

God, I hate people[/QUOTE] We're going to be more of a majority-minority, our demographic will be around the mid 40s percentage so we'll still be the largest group but we just won't make up half the country anymore. A result of many factors such as, ironically, globalization outsourcing jobs while costs of living go up causing white people to not get married and have less kids while minorities typically have more kids for some reason or another. Other factors like the topic of the thread, interracial marriage and social cultural changes in our country breaking down taboos and walls for people to get together. But at the same time we got rising racial tensions with nationalists and stunts like that Washington State college with students trying to a force a day of absence for white students and faculty, and the whole "its fun to hate white people" stereotype from the fringe left going on so I can only wonder what will happen from here.

Not specifically marriage but laws related to citizenship for mixed race/nationality couples. My wife is born and raised Japanese, my son is a halfu/happa and I am American. Japan does not allow dual citizenship except for my son who is allowed by Japan to have citizenship only until the age of 20 (the age of adult hood here) at which point he'd be required to make a life changing decision which citizenship he wants to keep at the forfiture of the other. If you do not make this decision Japan usually pulls your Japanese citizenship for you. I would never ask my wife to pick up US citizenship at the cost of being treated like a second class citizen in her own country. It's an old law but there is frustratingly so little political support to get the law repeled/amended because mixed race/nationality couples are compartively rare. It's sad, I had to jump through so many hoops to be married in Japan. To get married in the US all I needed was her passport and my state drivers license. I can't say I've ever had any issues with being in an interracial relationship so far as a white english guy with an english raised Filipino gf, my family literally don't bat an eye and its just normal, never even mentioning it and people on the street/in general always seem to smile at us and generally say nice things when we are together. I was worried about coming across those people that would have an issue but there literally isn't any. The only person who I secretly think isn't too happy about it is her Father because he's quite traditional but he's never outright said anything. Its nice, but from my experience I'm not surprised to see this news, people just seem accepting in general nowadays, in my case at least.
