Witnesses say the al-Rawda mosque in the town of Bir al-Abed, near al-Arish, was targeted during Friday prayers. Local police said men in four off-road vehicles opened fire on worshippers, AP reported. Egypt has been fighting an Islamist insurgency in the region, which has intensified since 2013. There have been regular attacks blamed on militants on the Sinai peninsula, but this is the deadliest assault of its kind. Pictures from the scene show rows of bloodied victims inside the mosque. More than 100 people were also wounded, reports say. One report said the target appeared to be supporters of the security forces who were praying at the mosque. President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi is to meet security officials to discuss the incident, Egypt's private Extra News TV reported.
Absolutely disgusting, not to mention the hypocrisy of this - murdering people in a place of worship as they attended to their prayers. I'm sure these fundamentalist cunts are very pious indeed. [editline]24th November 2017[/editline] Update, seems the death toll's at least 155 now - can a mod update the title please?
Death toll now at 235, I hope there won't be any more.
Hypocrisy isn't on their mind, you see, all they want is to inflict as much suffering as possible until their demands are met, then they'll find new demands and carry out more attacks ad infinitum. They simply don't give a shit.
That's a truely staggering death toll, jesus fuck.
They see no problem with killing them because as far as they're concerned these people are the wrong type of muslims which essentially in their eyes makes them nonmuslims.
They weren't brave enough to go after military or police personnel who could fight back, so they went after civilians who couldn't defend themselves. Absolutely pathetic. They're nothing but a bunch of cowards.
do you think there's something brave about murdering military and police personnel? cmon dude
Did I say that? I think not, though I can see how it could be interpreted that way. Regardless, you have to admit that going after targets that can shoot back is more dangerous than going after defenseless civilians.
Did I say that?

They weren't brave enough to go after military or police personnel .
Yeah, pretty much.
Yeah, pretty much.
I can see how it could be interpreted that way. No, I'm not condoning their actions and no, I'm not validating their cause. You have to admit though, going after a military or police target is more dangerous than butchering a crowd of defenseless civilians.
do you think there's something brave about murdering military and police personnel? cmon dude

its not a competition dude, attacking people who arent attacking you is always wrong whether the people you're murdering can shoot back or not
I think you might be misconstruing his intentions a little bit, and taking his words too literally he is taking on the mentality of 'they aren't even fighting someone that can fight back, cowards', etcetc and yes, going after defenseless targets is cowardice. Obviously these people don't give a shit. Obviously attacking armed soldiers isn't brave either. But they're cowards, that's it.
wow i thought the death toll must have been some sort of typo. I hope they catch the people who did this.
its not a competition dude, attacking people who arent attacking you is always wrong whether the people you're murdering can shoot back or not
Nowhere in Psychokitten's post did they even hint at this action being less wrong had the attackers gone after armed police or military personnel. You're looking for bones to pick in an earthworm.
Islamic Extremists view Muslims who don't subscribe to their particular brand of extremism, and willingly come to join their Holy War, as apostates. They view apostasy as punishable by death. This is why the overwhelming majority of victims of Islamic extremism are other Muslims.
Ive never understood groups that fight for some sort of cause kill their own people whom they are trying to lead behind said cause... :why:
Ive never understood groups that fight for some sort of cause kill their own people whom they are trying to lead behind said cause... :why:
They usually kill them because they're not the "right" kind of Muslim. Shia kill Sunni, Sunni, kill Shia.
Allah has promised the hypocrite men and hypocrite women and the disbelievers the fire of Hell, wherein they will abide eternally. It is sufficient for them. And Allah has cursed them, and for them is an enduring punishment.
Ah it was a Sufi mosque. That makes sense, in their evil way of thinking. I was very confused why they'd attack a Sunni mosque. Poor Sufis are so peaceful but just continue to get killed for being different. They're not even involved. But I guess "not being involved" and not subscribing to fundamentalist Islamic doctrine is enough to warrant death.
Update: The death toll has now raises up to 305.
