The best phases:
1. initial punk rock phase in England 1976-77
2. birth of oi in England, around 1981 (although there were some oi bands who started before)
3. USA based hard core LA scene : poison idea, circle jerks, etc.
4. New York Hard Core scene, born in early 80s

I don't know, I think Post Punk should be its own thing since it's so divergent from the punk scene. Although some songs do carry the punk spirit (see Swell Maps track above), I think there should be a separate discussion with darker forms of music (Goth Rock, Industry).
As long as we can talk about early Post Hardcore and Art Punk, I don't see why people wouldn't complain.

Well those two are kind of what I was getting at. But there's been some early post punk revivals recently that are pretty god damned pawnk and I don't want to exclude them. Check out these freaks

Ya know on second thought these guys are pretty straightforward punk. but basically if someone posts Joy Division i'm not gonna trip
So I'm thinking, since my government are cunts and we'll only decline, that maybe a goodthing will come and we'll get punk back to reflect our angst.

As long as we are including post-hardcore, we need some NMN.

Although this is probably the closest they got to traditional hardcore on 'Wrong'.
Beastie Boys were always a punk band at heart:

a pretty good one, too
Apparently they recorded all these songs when they did Ill Communication, and they made way too many so they ended up on this EP

Well just got back from a DK's show, crowd was goddamned insane and all the band members looked like they escaped from an old persons' home dedicated to retired dentists. 10/10 would mosh again.
